Hi Emmy! I love the way you eat and I love that you're a foodie but still are very respectful even at times when you taste something that you don't like. I lived in Sweden for 18 years and I still buy and love them here in Denmark. Thanks for sharing. Ann
The delicato ball is actually made from oat grains. A traditional swedish snack is oat grains, butter, sugar and cocoa just worked into balls and dipped in (usually) grated coconut. Some even have rum or coffee added to it.
Hi Emmy, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching these candy tasting videos! I'm doing this "no candy 2014" (halfway through, woop woop!) and your videos are great for me because thanks to your excellent describing of the flavours and texture, I can feel like I'm eating them myself! Keep up the good work and greetings from the land of salty licorice Finland!
I really enjoy your videos Emmy. You make taste testing so fun. I always learn a little something and get cheered up. Love your little endings, very cool
Great vid Emmy! The crunch that you tasted in the havreboll/delicatoboll is actually oatflakes mixed with sugar (there is also cocoa powder, coffee and butter in there), I make it all the time :) and FYI, the green cake with the ends dipped in chocolate are called dammsugare (eng: vacuumcleaners), kind of a fun trivia :D
The green and brown cakes from Delikato are called "Vacuum-cleaners" by many Swedish people - including me. The look reminds us of old fashioned vacuum-cleaners, that´s why.
Emmy, Malaco is pronounced as you first thought and Delicato is pronounced just like "delikato", not "delissoto" - More viking, less italian! (: 1. Delicatoboll (delee-kah-toe-boul) - "Delicious Ball". 2. Punchrulle (punch-rule-eh), also known as "dammsugare" which means vacuum cleaner - "Punch roll". 3. Biskvi (beesk-vee) - "Biscuit". 4. Hallongrotta (Hallon-grou-tah) - "Raspberry Cave". 5. Pärlboll (Paerl-boul) - "Pearl Ball". 6. Havreboll (Hah-vrae-boul) - "Oat Ball".
All of the cookies except for the biskvi and the havreboll are actually made originally out of old soft cakes that was getting dry and old mixed with some kind of creamy frosting-ingredient. So it is like a cake ball!
The delicato balls is actually chocolate balls and the crunchiness is a mix of sugar and oat! You can make them on your own if you mix gently oat, sugar, butter cocoa powder, coffee, pinch of salt and vanilla! And of course roll them in coconut! It's a common treat in Sweden which also is often the first thing you learn to bake as a child :)
Ah, the feels!! I remembrred eating all of this when i was smaller! The marsipan roll dipped in chocolate is Also called dammsugare, which menas a vacuum cleaner! And you were completely right when you tasted the chocolate balls, there is some coffee in it. Thanks for an awesome video!
Delicato (de-li-ka-to) boll, pärlboll and havreboll are all made of rolled oats :) They are super easy to make, and no bake! You mix sugar, rolled oats, butter and cocoa powder and sometimes a splash of water and some vanilla powder. Minus cocoa for havreboll. The punschrulle is also called a "vacuum cleaner" and is made with Arak (the alcohol you tasted). Malaco is pronounced Malako :)
Oh, those vending machine sweets seem delicious! I feel like going there just to spend some time spending some money on these vending machines, yumm! Love the video as always!
Enjoying you trying to proncunce the names of the diffrent sweet hehe ^^. Btw I'm pretty sure that the griddy texture from the "delicato boll" is actually "havre" which i guess would translate into oats in english.
Hi! Just letting you know, if you're still curious, that the crunch you felt in the different chocolate balls was probably oats! The home-made version of this sweet is made with oats, so I suppose there is a fair bit of it in the fabricated version too.
The green cookie from Delicato is usually called "Dammsugare". Translated to english that means vacuum cleaner. I think you call it so because when they started making them they used all the leftovers from earlier and mixed them all together. They are really good and super common here :)
A more common conception about the name Dammsugare is that they actually look like the old vacuumcleaners they had back in the 1920s when the pastry was invented.
thankyou your keeping to be soo humble to your gifts if i migt say so without beeing sounding besserwisy...i only say it becaus i love it very much. i am so glad that you exist to be seen
Am so happy that you made this video. Honestly I live near ikea and I go there a lot but I didn't know that the food is Sweden and there was herring thanks for the video I learned so much
The three different ball shaped cakes are basically the same: delicatoboll, pärlboll and havreboll. The delicatoboll (or chocolate ball) and pärlboll just differ on the outside (and there might be a bit of coffee in just one of them). The inside is oat (dried and flattened, like the ones you make oatmeal from), butter, sugar and cocoa. The delicatoboll has coconut on the outside and the pärlboll (pearl ball) has "pärlsocker" - pearl sugar on the outside. The havreboll (oat ball) is the same, but without the cocoa. So the gritty texture is mostly from the oats. They are really easy to make yourself, just a bit messy. Usually the frist thing swedish kids learn to bake, since you don't need to use the oven. Just mix, roll into balls and roll in coconut, pearl sugar or sprinkles. To make chocolate balls you need: 2 cups oatmeal 100 g butter (room temperature) 3 tbsp cocoa powder 0,5-1 tsp vanilla extract 0,5 cup ganulated sugar 2 tbsp water or milk. Soak the oatmeal in the water/milk to make it a bit softer. Then mix everything together with a spoon in a bowl (or with your hands, easier but messier!). When mixed well roll into balls about 1 inch in diameter and roll them in coconut shavings or sprinkles. If the mix is too sticky to roll, put it in the fridge for a while. Keep the balls in the fridge (if any gets left over...). Kids LOOOOOOVE these, both to make and to eat. The cake part of the biskvi is an almond cookie, made from marzipan. Almost the same as the ones i the blue bag! Just bigger and not dried, so softer and chewier. And chocolate buttercream on top. The candy stings are often used for playful competition: you put one end of the string in your mouth and keep your hands behind your back. Then you race to see who can eat their string the fastest!
emmymadeinjapan "coffee instead of wather/milk" (you misspelled water btw), you can more or less have any liquid that you want, like any kind of citrus juice, lime, oranges, lemon or what have you (I usually go with lemon extract). I also add 1 mashed ripe banana and add 2 more cups of oatmeal, due to the sweetness of the banana, no more sugar is added, or even needed. You can interchange 2 egg yolks with 50g of the butter if you like as well, and that will give it a more soft/squishy texture. You can also use chopped sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds or any other edible seed, instead for pearl sugar or coconut/almond flakes. The recipe originates from Montenegro, thus it is also called negerboll in sweden. PS, I originally made this comment to reply to Ingrid Rönnlund, but ended up replying to you since I added some alternative recipe changes.
+Helen Hansson Delicatoboll isn't ballshaped and the other two I have never heard of in my life. But you forgot the chocolate ball. You really need to read something before next time you are trying to comment cause you have no idea whatever you are talking about.
I'm from Sweden and I have seen a lot of movies from Sweden. Like a movie called Sunes sommar. It's a basket ball team and they want to buy one of these balls and they asked what it really called and the guy in the checkout was so scared because he didn't know what to say. So he said wiener bread in Swedish like this w-wiener bröd. Its absolute hillarius
Runk Lancelot I have called it ''negerboll' sense i was 4-5 years old, and I will keep on doing that. Some dark skined friends i have call it that 2. My english is kinda bad. Hope you undertand anyway.
All the ball things are variations of a chocolate ball that's very common in Sweden. It's the first thing any 4 year old learns to bake. It's butter, cacao, sugar, oats and a hint of cold coffee. And then you roll it in either shredded coconut or the crystallised sugar you saw, it's called pearl sugar. I think the havreboll is without the cacao. It's easy, doesn't require any baking, fast, delicious and quite messy. With the added bonus of licking of your fingers when you're done. Loved making them when I was younger, actually still do.
in the delicatoboll its rolled oats, it's pronounced deli-k-ato and it's rolled in coconut, the punschrulle actually *has* a coating of green marcipan, in the biskvi it's buttercream, hallongrotta is supposed to be a raspberry thumbprint cookie...
Just a tip, about the malaco Snöre (that is a candy i ate all the time when i Was a kid) If you do a braid with 3 snöre it's esier/ tastes better to eat :)
Fun fact: Sweden has a sort of tradition where kids are only allowed to eat candy on saturday (which is called lördags godis, saturday candy) and snacks on friday (which is called fredags mys, friday break/ snack.
Y'know, there is a story behind the green thing, punch rulle (punch(alcohol)Roll). They are also called "vacuumcleaner" in swedish. Those black ones are chocolate balls are called in sweden "(n-word) balls". Some coffee shops they are listed nowardays as "call them what you want to..."
Delicao balls and malaco is pronounced like Malako and Delikato, so it's a 'k' sound and I think the light one is like with oats and it's pearlsugar and yeah dried coconut 😜
Delicato boll = Delicious ball. But its called choclate ball. And that green and Brown ting is called Damsugare = Vacumer But in this case just a cake😂. And hallon grotta means. hallon = rasberry och grotta = cave. But i would say rasberry cake!❤
You need to test Wasabread with butter, Kalles and slices of hard boiled egg. An awesome Swedish sandwich :-) Some like it with Wasa, butter, Kalles and cheese. It's a matter of taste.
The Delicatoboll is a chokladboll, chocolate ball. A very common "fika" to make with small children since its very easy to make. The inside is made up from, mostly, butter, oatmeal, cacao and sugar. The punschrulle, or dammsugare (vacuum cleaner) is an old kind of "cookie", which traditionally consists of the leftover cookies and breads from bakeries, which has been crumbeled and flavoured to be "reused" in to this delicious "cookie". The flavour is not alchohol, its called "arraksessens", arrak essence, which is meant to taste like (arrak) punsch en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punsch
The C in Delicato and Malaco is pronounced as a K. :) There's a game with the strings; the contestans have to eat them without using their hands, only mouth. The person who finishes it first wins. :D
Think about the word "Delicate" when you pronounce Delicato-boll. The C is a hard K-sound and the A after is like when the dentist tells you to open wide: "AAAAH". Delic-A-to :)

By the way, you were pronouncing Malaco correctly before, the c is actually pronounced as a k. Same with Delicato, pronounced as Delikato. :)

Sometimes you can use coffee instead of wather/milk, to make them more like delicato balls, but as always it depends on what you prefer :)
