  • This week are learning the 10 most common (and therefore most important) Swedish words.
    If you ever heard about the "Pareto principle" or the 80-20 rule, this is what is all about. 80% of all conversations in Swedish can be done with only 20% of all the words.
    Which means that there are a lot of Swedish words that are not that important when learning to speak Swedish. In this video we are counting down the 10 words that if you master, will improve your Swedish THE MOST.

      She has a bit of Stockholm “i”, not to an extreme but some. I’d say you get close if you pronounce it as the English letter “e”. Like in “read” with Australian touch.

    Hi I have been following this channel and you are doing very subtle work . As I will travel to sweden in couple of weeks and I already have the idea of different things as you mentioned in many episodes . But also I wanted to learn the language so that i could feel less lonely in Sweden . As I realised after going through different people’s review about sweden and many of them mentioned that swedes are really hard to make friends even you know language . I felt so wrong . I wish to know about the subtle prejudice in sweden As i can trust you as my teacher also if you can guide me with few of the (don’ts )

    • @FunSwedish
      @FunSwedish  2 роки тому +1

      Hej Osman! How exciting that you are coming to Sweden. Here you can find all kind of people just like anywhere in the world (people with prejudice and people with less). If you come with a positive mindset then normally things go well. Learning the language and showing interest in the culture is always apreciated amongst Swedes and it seems like you are already doing a good job there 🙂

    At about 5:30 you start talking about -en/-ett nouns which is great because it *is* crazy making that there's no rhyme or reason about which is which, lol. My question is about how the -en/-ett "gender" structures the rest of a sentence, though. I can't think of good examples, but the gender of the noun changes other words, no? I'm sorry I'm so vague.

    • @FunSwedish
      @FunSwedish  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it does change other words. The gender (and number) of the noun changes the gender of the adjectives.
      We are going to do a whole series of videos going deep into the topic of en and ett and how that works.
      So you would say "En grön tomat" (A green tomato).
      But "Ett grönT äpple" (A green apple).
      :D
      There is a better explanation here:

    About the "Det" word, when used as a subject it doesn't matter if we have ett or en words, it will always be "det"? I think this word deserves a whole video 😅. Extremely difficult for me 😅.

    • @FunSwedish
      @FunSwedish  3 роки тому +6

      Great idea! We will for sure make a whole video going deeper into this one.
      As for your question, "det" is only for "ett" words. So there is also "den".
      But there is a special case that is very common for using it as a subject.
      That refers to something more abstract. Like.. the world or existence itself.
      Like when we say "It is raining". What is that "it" that is raining? The world? The sky?
      or in "It is 2 o clock". What is the it? The time zone? Existence itself? :P

    On 3:20 you pronounce "är" in an expected way, but on 3:24 "är" sounds differently, as if you are saying "er". Would it be OK in the second phrase to say "är" just like in the first phrase?

    • @FunSwedish
      @FunSwedish  2 роки тому +1

      The "er" is the Stokholm accent 😊. Both forms are valid.

  • @AxelQC
    @AxelQC 2 роки тому

    There's a simple reason in English why we say "a" versus "an": we don't like the sound of two vowels together. A apple or a ocean just sounds awkward, so the "n" acts as a separator.
