In an another note, the new radio effect on your voice is killer ! It really give the impression that we fly with our instructor. A simple, clever and awesome trick you pulled out here :-)
@@MattWagner A thing that is clearly laking as of today, is the voices quality in DCS. Just put some voice over in a SP mission and all of the sudden every thing comes to life. Just that little trip really pumped me up for the Apache. Hear is basically the one sens we can really use to immerse ourselves in regarding simulators. It's not just an ED guy showing some new stuff, it's Wags taking us with him. Maybe it's because sound is my domain of work, but if I end up pulling the trigger on the AH-64 this little touch would be considered as the money-maker. Again, nice work ! :-)

Thanks for the video. It becomes a lot easier to comprehend when you understand that the I beam is just a steering cue and that the HMD is the actual "sight".

Had to rewatch due to being hypnotized by the wiggling hook. Now when flying the MI8 that hanging thing up front being static makes it unplayable.... /s Super excited for this module, and learning the myriad of ways to fire rockets and everything else.

It's actually not as hard as you would think it should be. Don't over compensate when you are moving your Joystick around, but be deliberate as well. You will probably find yourself just banking (don't yank back and bank as you will lose airspeed very rapidly) in it till you get used to what you can get away with.
Haha, love that last second. That’s usually the point where I have to change my underwear. Great follow up video, it’s all clear now. I think I need to upgrade my trackir 4 because it’s too jittery to get a stable aim in the AH-64.
I think we need to take a moment and realize that the work it takes to make the helicopter work is enormous. But then the amount of work it takes to make a hook wiggle, in relation to the forces created by the helicopter….. are astronomical and should be recognized !

@@lucid484 There is a reason this is complicated and not just "aim down the reticule" like a video game. Its a sim of real technology. Shooting a rocket accurately from a moving platform to a moving target and making sure every shot counts.
Regarding the zones of the pods in the last video, I'm really curious how you solved this in the rearming panel. Will there be a separate selection window for assigning rocket types to zones? Or just a choice of pre-loaded rocket pods in a boat load of different configurations? Thanks.
He explained rocket zones in the previous video or maybe that was Casmo. The zone check is on the weapon display when selecting rockets and there is a rectangle list showing what rockets are loaded in each zone and you choose which zone you want to use.
@@AlexKall Well, Wags explained how the zones are arranged and selected. It is not clear how you will be able to choose your rockets in the rearming panel before the mission.
Chuck's guides are the best way to get into the modules the quickest and also to refresh your memory on how things work. Purists might try to create so much detail that it's no longer fun for the majority but since it's a simplified sim you can get away with a lot less work. Remember it's just a game in the end, don't stress too much about doing it "right" and have fun with it.

Any consideration into adjusting the border size of the IHADSS ? Seems sometimes intrusive into your view and while the symbology size will not change but increasing the size of the border it will occupy less of the center of the field of view on the 2D panel. Could possibly do with a slider or adjustment on the special options tab for the AH-64. That way the pilot can adjust this to their preference Just a thought and I know it’s on the forums as a request. Thanks Matt

@@gryphus-0171 The Apache has Altitude, Attitude, and Heading hold modes as well as the standard force trim. Think of it as flying with out any modes turned on in the Ka-50, but trimming out via force trim. Then activate mode(s) based on what you are wanting at that time. The main difference will lie in the modes have limits to what they can compensate for and will kick out (disable) themselves if those limits are exceeded. I could be off on what I remember from studying up, but hopefully this helps.

Newer helicopters have far better trim systems that make it much easier to point the aircraft where you want, and over a certain speed you don’t need tail rotor thrust to correct for the rotational torque of the rotor system. But I fly without pedals. I fly the paint of the huey. Land it on the back of ships, I fly it sideways, backwards…. I spin it around while going forwards and don’t seem to have a problem without pedals. You just adapt to the controls you have and….. more importantly you can adjust turn rate, and smoothness with curves and dead zones.
@@ben1869 You will probably be able to give it an extra dangle with your hand in VR, like with the fan of the Hind 😁 I agree on the need for a toggle..the way the front hook and rear hook sway in perfect sync, yet are facing in opposite directions...it really triggers every obsessive disorder I own. (Edit: same goes for the smudgy thumb print on the TDU)
Hey matt, i have a problem updating DCS, everytime i want to do a small update it automatically re downloads the complete game, so all add ons etc. Do you maybe have a solution for this?

I like the wiggling hook as alternative to Hind`s fan. Keeps me entertained, costs nothing and requires no maintenance. Pilot can hang on it smoked paprika sausage, dream catcher or girlfriend`s G-strings. Whichever is prefered😉.
Wow the aiming with the I-beam is really confusing woudn't it be way more intuitive if was offset in the other direction so it show you where the rockets are pointing? This will take hours of getting used to and will probably confuse you when you are not using the apache and the indicator is similar.
@@MattWagner i know i just meant that the I beam (i don't know if it is called I beam or guide beam at this point so i will stick with beam)direction is confusing. let's say my los reticle is on the target and the range is set and correct no matter what. When the beam is to the left of the Los i woud think ok the i beam needs to come to the right therefore if i woud fire at that moment the rocket will hit to the left of the target but as far as i can concern from this video it's actually the other way and the impacts woud be on the right side of the Target. That is what i meant. I think of the LOS as my elevation/ranging and the beam as my transverse aiming so when the beam is on the left side of the target i woud think i woud need to come to the right. And as far as i can see in this video that is not actually the case. And this confuses me 200% although i have to say i am not used to it nor have i ever used it but from the outside it just feels like a bad decision from whoever decided this woud eb a good idea.
Helis in vr is absolutely awesome. You get real sense of height and enjoy the views more on a slow moving aircraft. For me no better was of flying the Apache than in VR. Cheers

@@nynphose I find myself ducking around the Hind Fan when zoomed in looking for targets. I don';t mind it, actually adds to the simulation from a static. Did you notice that there was a hose vibrating and what I think an window air vent vibrating as well. That stuff is top notch to me. As long as the physics are halfway decent I am all for them.
@@chipwillis I didn't notice the vibration of the hose, I'll have to look for it. With helicopters the vibrations are constant and dcs does a decent job of trying to simulate the important ones so you have some seat of the pants flying cues.

It is an alternative to Hind`s fan. Costs $0.20 and keeps pilot entertained. Does not require maintenance.

Always remember. Management By Exception. The aircraft will tell you if something is wrong or limitations are being meet or exceeded.
Yup. Flying a heli is complicated on its own, but throw in having to aim fucking rockets...and yeah respect to these bad mother fuckers.

Thats my problem, when I pick up a new module I forget how to fly my other ones. Going back and forth between the A10 and F18 is so difficult
That's why I focus on a couple modules, and not all of them. Be good at a few, rather than adequate at many.

lots of joysticks twist left and right which can work like rudder
Your going to want/need rudder peddles for anything helicopter. You can get away with a twist grip for planes, not so much with helicopters.

Yes. Set to range and then the I-beam and the cross hairs have to line up.

Use COOP, it's super easy. You can certainly fly out of aerodynamic trim, but don't expect the rockets to fly true as they will weathervane.

That hook swinging when the chopper is motionless is really odd.
it really was, I hope it's just a bug with active pause tho
the hooks to me are annoying in general, like the HIND fans nice detail but in the end not necessary.
@@nynphose I find myself ducking around the Hind Fan when zoomed in looking for targets. I don';t mind it, actually adds to the simulation from a static. Did you notice that there was a hose vibrating and what I think an window air vent vibrating as well. That stuff is top notch to me. As long as the physics are halfway decent I am all for them.
@@chipwillis I didn't notice the vibration of the hose, I'll have to look for it. With helicopters the vibrations are constant and dcs does a decent job of trying to simulate the important ones so you have some seat of the pants flying cues.
@@nynphose it adds to the cockpit being alive, like a bobblehead or fluffy dice.
