    I see you use some of Michel Thomas methods, but that's good because you expand it more than Michel did, no discredit to Michel though. Good teaching both of you :) thanks.

    I have a question about this. I read in some textbooks that the subjunctive is not used with "antes de que" and "despues de que", when speaking about events that already happened. Like for example: "Hicimos todo antes de que ellos vinieron". But now I'm trying to read some actual texts, and I often see the subjunctive being used in similar situations.

      Vulpes Inculta Good question. As far as I am aware, for the most part if not always, they use the subjunctive. However, if they can just bolt on the infinitive: 'Antes de llegar ellos' they will do that before using the subjunctive. But that's just for efficiency.

    How would one say, "If he had come, we would have got it done."?

  • @four-on-six
    @four-on-six 11 років тому

    I am confused! "si viniera, iriamos a la cine" - 2 questions, (1) why is venir in the subjunctive? shouldn't it be "venía" ? and (2) where does iriamos come from? shouldn't it be fuéramos?

    • @four-on-six
      @four-on-six 11 років тому

      OH!! Nevermind I understand! venir is in the past subjunctive and "ir" is in the CONDITIONAL !! Okay thank you Gordon I am loving the subjunctive, I can express myself so much better now!

    Obviously another brilliant video as always. However where the "if" is concerned, I really do not see how you can distinguish between what is a hypothetical situation and what is a likely situation. For example "if I won the lottery" triggers the subjunctive but "if I win the lottery" does not. Both are absolutely undoubtedly hypothetical situations because they both cannot be certain !

    • @LightSpeedSpanishChannel
      @LightSpeedSpanishChannel  8 років тому +1

      Think in English: If you are using a PAST TENSE for an even that hasn't happened ( like in If I WON the lottery), then, that's Subjuntive both in English and Spanish. I hope that heps. We have a book on Subjunctive called: Demystifying the Spanish Subjunctive, Sean. Cxx

      Profe esto es facil solo que ustedes no piensan así en ingles pero cuando aprenden el idioma se van a reir . Les doy un ejemplo mi maestro de matematica nos da mucha tarea y las chicas decimos ahhhhhh nos da ganas de ahorcarlo pero nosotras no lo vamos a ahorcar en la vida real es solo un sentimiento de frustracion nada mas. Me gusta tu forma de ensenar profe saludos de peru.

    I'm struggling with this a bit because a lot of the English examples you are giving don't make sense to me and I am English. You wouldn't say "If he came we would go to the cinema" Do you mean "If he came we would have gone to the cinema"? Sorry if I'm being thick.

    • @sherrybielma1934
      @sherrybielma1934 7 років тому

      I think this is more hypothetical than "would have?" For example if we were writing a short story or novel, and to make it a moving thing, we could perhaps say, "If he came we would go to the cinema," or if he came we would go to the cinema, if he didn't we would stay home"...? You see what I mean here, Jody?
