Paul, Thank you for returning to Slayer and allowing my 20 yrs. old son to go to yet another Slayer show together. (11-22-14 Atl) You bring a higher level of energy to the stage. Thank you for sharing these awesome videos with us, your Slayer family! Hope to see you on tour again.
i dont think so...but hes good enuf...he keeps slipping behind the beat until its in front of it, its a weird style i respect it but its not how Dave played these songs.
@@thetoneknob4493 Dave used to play them in a major killer way...way before he started to think he was the king of cuban groove bullshit in the 2000s....
Good job, sir. First album from slayer I bought was 'divine intervention' back in the day. I even bought the tab book for guitar. I hadnt heard any slayer song before, except 'Gemini' in the radio. I blasted the c-cassette every freaking day and what struck me was the drum fills and the production and sound of the drum track. It was so damn heavy. first time I heard that kind of drumming. of course some kind of black metal shit from same radio show, but that is titty slapping compared to the pure hitting power of your style. I wanted to learn more about slayer, I bought reiging blood and saw couple music videos in TV, from the Lombardo era. I was thinking what is this. Who is that simple drummer?! thats not the guy I wanted to hear. So, for me, divine intervention era line-up and songs are the definition of Slayer. it was a strong experience. still listen to it from time to time. I even have the tab book and tried to remember how the songs went. I'm not really into this kind of stuff anymore, but divine intervention and that punk stuff still I listen. how funny is that :D
The only way to deploy such a perfect and powerful performance is to be a little different from natural people!!!You re out of this world MR BOstaph .. KEEP ROCKING!
Hey Paul, the tech that comes up, does he replace your battery on your wireless pack? If so, thats incredible communication between the two of you, to tap on your pack and he knows. Seamless professionalism. Cheers bro!
Fuck yeah! Badass! Made me stand up to watch this video & start headbanging naturally, good job paul. Been a fan since forbidden. Met you w exodus in some shithole tiny bar in michigan. Still have a scar on my rt eyebrow from that night. I think like 40 people showed & only 4 of us thrashed out hahaaa
Such a pro, but people sleep on his blast beats and quads are next level. In fact on Divine Intervention his quad fills blew me away, first time I heard anything like it. People that say Lombardo is a better drummer, just show me Lombardo playing anything off of Divine Intervention? Paul can play anything ... period. He could play for any metal band. Slipknot .. Meshuga .. Rush you name it.
Actually, funny you should mention it---Dave's attempts at Dittohead were a mess---at least the ones we saw on UA-cam. To my knowledge, he never attempted "Killing Fields" or any other track off of DI.
@@blppt you are lucky my friend to still have that deep down love for him. I hope you keep that love for him it can be fleeting if you do not cherish it.
not a fair analysis this go pro is getting sound mostly from on leg Paul is a badass its just not the most flattering recording for sound but it is great if you want to see how perfect his hands are.
Hello drummers, I've always wondered how I could play the thrash beat on the snare and hi-hat without making the sticks hit each other. Because it does not happen when I play lower tempos or something "less busy" with my left hand I would say. By the way, is this the 14x5,5 Loud Series Snare from Yamaha ? Awesome sounding snare. Good performance.
burns01 Exactly what Vaginaattori said. That's what I do, that's what a lot of drummers I know do when playing this kind of stuff. Raise that high hat and even lower the snare some creating a decent amount of space. Lowering the snare Ive found helps when playing thrashy kinda stuff too as you get to beat the thing up moreso than play it if that makes sense lol. It can make spacing for fills a bit weird at first tho.
Julian Proske. It's push pull technique in American grip, with some wrist assistance. Best way to play like that is to practice your whole are from the shoulders down, your forearms, WRISTS, then fingers
I was here and it was Such a killer show, although I did miss Lombardo and Hanneman. During Angel of Death and I believe Reign in Blood, they had a beer banner that said Hanneman instead of "Heineken" lmao, as a tribute to Jeff.
Hey Paul, just wondering what your preferred settings are for your GoPro? I just got myself a Hero 3+ Black so I can do my own drum cams, currently experimenting in rehearsals. Kick ass videos and performance man.
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo es un baterista con un estilo totalmente diferente a Dave, con una contundencia que demostró en Divine Intervention Diabólus in Musica y totalmente top en God hates us all !!!
LAWL....Oh ye sheltered thrash metal fan.... He couldn't touch Gene Holgan if he paid to. As a matter of fact, Gene could fart better drum playing. You really need to listen to Dark Angel before you make such silly remarks.
Haha, Gene Hoglan, Tom Hunting, Dave Lombardo, Igor Cavalera, Perry Strickland, even Lars Ulrich from the 80’s are way better than Paul Bostaph, I’m not saying he is not good but he is definitely not the best.
Playing live is all about "feel". Unless you play to a metronome live "totalt buzzkill" then you'll get defferent tempis every night. Not more than 2-6 BPM hopefully but still.. And at least he plays the song propperly! Lombardo was fucking WAY to much around at the end!! I saw him at Copenhell and he sucked ass!!
Dimitris dm Gene Hoglan is a monster drummer, but there is more great drummers out there. Turn your eyes to European drummers like George Kollias, to start.
Go listen to every album he's played on, with Slayer, Testament, Forbidden, Exodus etc. Especially Divine Intervention, the whole REASON i started thrash drumming. And my other huge influence Nicko McBrain for everything else. :)
