I really enjoyed this two-part restoration, very intuitive...all I would add regarding the alignment/balance/skating set-up would be to level the turntable itself first...otherwise all other calibrations would not be correct. With all that restoration effort...update it with a new head-shell and cartridge 😎
Hey great work but, what about rubber feet for the turntable? like see, was bad and you can see new on page 9, what did you do for fix that?, i have the same turntable with the same problem, could you tell me, thank you very much
You can polish the dustcover too to make it brandnew. You should really lubricate the parts mentioned in the service manual. Also you should have checked the needle under a microscope, since you do not want to damage your vinyl. And last: the suspension is something you should fix. Those rubbers can be bought on ebay.
This was my first turntable, and will always be my fall-back... because even the $500 belt-drive setups I see pushed today can't match it's Quartz-PLL accuracy in wow & flutter (0.025%) or it's low rumble (75%) for the money even a professionally serviced & setup one can give. And do it for less total outlay! ;)
I wish my PL-7 was that easy to get into!!I have to take it all apart just to set up the automatic operation! 3 times and I quit for now. It's just manuel until I get the nerve to open it up again! LOL
Some devices are more fun to work on than others :-). Fixing an Akai GXC-65D at the moment and its a nightmare. Service technicians must have been cheap in the 70ties when just disassembly almost takes an hour...
I have the PL120 which looks almost identical to the 300, the suspension on these things is amazing! Nothing can make the tonearm skip! Even when I had the turntable on the floor right next to the subwoofer at full volume! Try getting a turntable out of China that can do that and last more than a year, seems like the only thing that China is actually good at is creating viruses that actually do what they are supposed to do.... Hopefully Japan will find their way back into manufacturing, I'm tired of buying landfill.
This is not restoration or maintenance service, this is detailing. No Deoxit/lube used, no aged capacitors replaced. Cartridge with needle must be removed before doing this, easy to ruin.
Thank you very much for this video, I have a PL400x but it is basically the same, I am trying to find replacements for those rubber feet
I have a PL400 and a PL300 - if you use T-cut evenly and sparingly the very fine abrasives completely transform the lid and make it crystal clear..

Incredibly helpful video, thank you!
Glad it helped!

Hell the gas station down the road sells rubbers in the bathroom if all else fails.

What kind of replacement parts do you choosen for the rubber feet of the turntable? They were in pretty bad condition...
If you find out please let me know.
