    Manilla has Cyberpunk tier inequality.
You have malls in BGC that have world class luxury and futuristic highrises and just a few minutes in Makati or any other area you see extreme poverty, people living in makeshift shacks and you have a wet market on the roads.

You failed to mention that for decades filipinos by the thousands trained in the nursing field, then went abroad and have sent millions of dollars back to their families in the Philippines. So not all 'brain drains' are a negative.
That said Filipinos are the most kind, generous people I've had the pleasure of knowing. I've been invited to dinners with families that are at the very top of the socio-economic ladder as well as some of the poorest. I ate once with a family that lived in a shack made up of cardboard and metal garbage with an open air sewer as their backyard. What i didn't know until leaving was that they felt so honored by having me a westerner visit them they spent what they'd saved all year for a Christmas dinner on me! I was struck by such guilt that they had sacrificed what would have been the means for them to have one good meal on me, some stranger. That's a level of generosity i will never forget even after all these years.
For all the pollution, poverty, etc. Filipinos have retained the most valuable thing in life, kindness and a generosity of spirit and there's no dollar signs attached to that. It's too bad most Americans have never experienced their culture. If they had maybe they'd not only rethink their priorities in life but would treat people better in their daily lives.
    Maraming salamat!

Yeah I deal with a lot of Filipinos and Indians at work and I think a Filipino with a moderate accent is less noticeable then an Indian with a mild accent. I know an Indian and a Filipino who've both lived in the US for nearly 20 years each and the Indian can be hard to understand if you're not familiar with the accent while the Filipino is easier to understand then the Appalachian hillbilly i work with.

      Well, when your choices are:
      A. Move to a foreign country like the US, Canada, Australia, or the UK, where your skills both in English and in the course you specialised in are highly valued and receive adequate pay, supplemented by good public infrastructure that takes you to work efficiently, and a justice system and culture that puts the rule of law, individualism, and equality above all else
      B. Stay in the Philippines where your skills are practically ubiquitous meaning you have a LOT of competition in the best workplaces who only offer 1/8th of the salary of workers abroad, with a horrendous public transport system and infrastructure, coupled with a corrupt government, a culture which chastises the truly intelligent and praises the cunning who get through life with their "diskarte" or whatever, and a nation that cannot provide even the most basic of services like power, water, and healthcare consistently

Which is the reason why it lagged behind countries that has no economic restrictions on their constitution. Its been there since the US, since they want to have a monopoly along their haciendero partners on Philippines natural resources. And restrictions negatively impact industries that doesn't revolve conflict minerals such as retail, software development, you get the idea. Hence the salary is low, compared to Singapore which has more jobs than manpower hence the demand is reflected on the salary.

A little background on US-Fillipino military infrastructure:
For most of the Cold War, the US maintained two massive bases in the Philippines - Subic Bay, a naval port, and Clarke Field, an airbase. Among other things, these bases were used as part of the logistics lifeline during the Vietnam War. Lots of money went into the Filipino economy because of this either directly (from US government payments/support) or indirectly (US servicemen on R&R). The bases developed quite a red light district around them, almost Bangkok levels of debauchery, and the Filipinos as a whole were never happy about that.
Right as the Cold War ended in 1991, this unhappiness combined with a shrinking US defense budget, plus the Mount Pinatubo volcano eruption partially destroying Clarke led to the US Navy/Air Force selling the bases back to the Filipinos and leaving. The Filipinos also put strict constitutional rules in place to regulate how many foreign troops could be on the islands at any one time. So the American presence was limited to training/counter-terror assistance for the last three decades.
It's only now, with China bullying everybody in their vicinity and building a real blue water navy the Filipinos can't possibly compete with (and hence lose economic development of its surrounding waters), that they have invited the Americans back.

We do fight, but we don't do it haphazardly. We don't just fulfill higher wages out of nowhere then cry when people get laid off when employers can't keep up with the labor cost (case in point California). If we want higher wages (thus better life), then the money is gonna come from somewhere. Be it from foreign investors or improved domestic opportunities. Both are rather complicated can of worms.
Take Foreign investment. From my limited economics knowledge, Philippine laws dictate that companies should be predominantly Filipino owned (more than 50%) when doing business in the Philippines. This means support for local businesses and prevent foreign interests (good and bad) from investing. This is a very pro-Filipino law, but it's a huge deterrent to foreign investors. Also, from what I know, only a limited set of Filipino conglomerates can benefit from this so smaller Filipinos are at a disadvantage. The current administration wants to change this law, but is quite the unpopular move for good reason. Yet this stalemate prevents work opportunities from pouring in.

Apartheid South Africa only provided opportunities and government services to white people and black folks who suck up to their overlords.
Venezuela failed to reinvest their oil revenue and develop a diversified economy when time were good.
The Marcos regime failed to modernize the Philippines the same way South Korea did because of rampant uncontrolled corruption. Most of the loans the Philippines took that was supposed to be sued to give grants to private entities so they could build factories, banks and provide other services, were pocketed by their owners.
It was a culture of incompetence that wrecked these countries. Always was, always will be.

The Philippines is on the right track... Philippines investment on cheap electricity in the future is a game changer to make Philippines as a manufacturing hub and independent to import... Philippines building massive of solar power plant and nuclear energy that will be materialize in 2030...If the government will consider to connect LUZON, VISAYAS and MINDANAO this will increa the Philippines economic growth by up to 20%. Imagine Philippines has a high cost of electricity and rely more on import about goods but still growing and scored as a top economic growth in whole southeast asia.

"Aggressively mid" is perfect description to my country. That's why I silently disagree lately when we become overproud of our country for some random things. Migrating to a different country opened my eyes how much behind we are at home. We were raised to believe what our conditions in the country are good enough - but many have already developed to do it better. We are so behind that even studying a decade to be a doctor in the Philippines is still not enough to be a doctor on other countries - they have to study further here in the US or in Europe or Canada even if they did the same amount of years of education. Our college system is dated filled with filler subjects, political situation, lack of discipline, and our "anti-new things" mindset is pulling us back.

What this video doesn't show is that even though the United States sort of recognized Philippine's "independence" they still haven't totally let go. The next few decades have seen the United States interfering with the Philippines' internal affairs with its countless C-I-A operatives in the country, allegedly funding insurgencies and bribing its politicians, and at worse instigating regime change every now and then as evidenced by its multiple EDSA revolutions throughout its recent history.
This foreign power-induced political instability has caused its economic potential to stagnate and left it behind the rest of Asian economies. But since the one making this video is a white guy living in Australia, a country who is a part of 5eyes alliance, we can clearly see which side of the argument this video heavily favors on.

China, Vietnam and Thailand do not allow foreigners to own land yet these countries attracted many foreign investors. Philippine laws allow foreigners up to 40% own condo projects and that alone created a real estate bubble that priced many locals out of the market. Chinese mainlanders' buying spree drove Makati prices up to 200% in a few years. Imagine what allowing foreign ownership of all land will do to the country. There is no way ordinary Filipinos will be able to afford to own and maintain their land. Land ownership is not even a top concern for many foreign investors. They cite poor infrastructure, high power costs, slow internet, red tape, regulatory inconsistencies, corruption and judicial system as main concerns. Allowing them to own land will not fix those issues. Charter change is continually being pushed by local politicians who will probabaly benefit personally from it.
