Getting prepared for my longest trip ever! And my first SOLO trip ever! I plan on doing a "post trip" review video of my gear mentioned in this video. Stay tuned!
By the time we see this I imagine it's already done and you're back. We await the videos...
Be careful.
This is awesome. I did my first ever longest trip to Florida as well. Leaving Long Island I rode from Freeport, NY to Jacksonville,FL. You will have a blast once you relax and embrace the journey. That’s where you’ll find your peace in your solo travels. Good luck.
ua-cam.com/users/GBeWinginIt
@@GBeWinginIt Cool. I was born in Freeport, grew up in North Bellmore.
I just did that exact same trip but in my van LOL now I'm back in Los Angeles Valley. Enjoy that ride. Kudos
A bike inspection is a must before a long trip. Bravo for that.
Have a safe trip and enjoy the ride.
Or learn to do it yourself and stop paying the stealership
@@JohnGeldreich I know how to do it myself, I’d still take it to the dealership and let them do one. A second set of eyes never hurts
Have a good, safe trip and what out for those idiots! For suggestions (I have 20+ years on you so be kind) a road atlas in case your phone fails, some sort of roadside assistance like AAA and a flashing beacon or strobe light that you can attach to the back of your bike for the side of road emergencies.
And take the bypass around Atlanta👍
When l bought my first Harley l drove from Dallas to Jacksonville Florida without stopping as a newby by myself to learn to ride. This was when people didnt vlog about everything they do. l wound up going all the way to Key West and then home thru a national park that was mostly a bridge. l was 17 in 1980 when l did this.
Thanks for sharing your story. Those were better days...
That had to be a nice ride, I was in my late twenties and on an Electra Glide in northern Okla.
The one tool I always have when I leave is a Leatherman. Small, carry it on your belt and very handy to have when things go sideways. The OEM toolkit with a Leatherman could probably get you out of any bike related problem on the road. Stay safe
May want to track inland for a bit before heading south. But boy, that should be some tailwind once the storm passes.
Looks like you have it all together girl. You be safe, well and most of all, enjoy the ride.
I've ridden extensively across the US and Canada, at least 250k miles on road trips. My advice is the left saddlebag is for frequently used items: food, water, wipes, extra gloves, etc. You should be stopping every 100-200 miles for breaks anyway so that saddle bag is my 'kitchen'. Put a small flexible cooler in there too. Right saddle bag is for emergency supplies plus safety gear. That saddle bag is the 'garage'. Tank bag is for stuff you need right away. Sunglasses, other keys, wallet, lip balm, camera, kleenex, etc. I often take pictures by pulling over and not getting off the bike. Tank bag is the 'purse'. Tail pack is for everything you need to take into a motel: clothes, personal items, etc. Tail pack is the 'closet'. I take the tail pack and tank bag in to my room when at a motel and lock the bike up. Also, put maps in your tank bag and mark points of interest to stop along the way. Use a GPS too. It helps finding food, gas and hotels plus is great for not getting lost in big cities which is where most accidents occur. Mount it high as possible to keep your eyes up and don't program it while moving. Avoid the interstate at all costs and plan a route with sites to see but don't plan a schedule. It's all about getting away from your regular life.
So exciting! I just bought my first bike yesterday and I haven’t stopped smiling since it arrived 😅
EEEEK! Congratulations!!!
Her Two Wheels thank you!! Hope you have a fantastic trip!! And thank you for all your amazing content ❤️
David Vanbrunt I’m taking my CBT soon
"Or if I'm .. hungover!" Lol that made me laugh
Yay! Super excited for you!! Prayers for safe travels 😊
This is great help as i am embarking on my first long trip through the mountains of Wales Uk very soon and so many pointers of what i need to take with me on my adventure. Thank you and stay safe warm and dry Lady !
I plan on making a similar trip in terms of miles on my 883 sportster with the peanut tank. I was worried about fuel I’m glad you thought of that being now I I know what I can use
I'm excited for you. be careful riding out there because some people don't look for motorcycles. have fun!
Really great bag! Lots of storage! Love it!! Enjoy the ride and watch not what you do, but what THEY do!! Safe travels , Darlin’ ! Enjoy your beautiful trip!
You’ve done a great job packing for the trip! Hope you have a beautiful and safe ride! Should be plenty of gas along the way, but it never hurts to be prepared!
Hi Jess, a very impressive video and a good reminder of what to pack for anyone planning a trip. Loved the sissy bag. Have a great trip, and look forward to your videos.
Lots of beautiful riding around Gainesville, palatka, Ocala.
Yeah 301 is legit. I’m in St Augustine. Did that back way ride to Tampa last week
florida sucks for riding, especially the areas you named. florida is all flat, and no twisties. probably the worst place to enjoy the road on a bike lol
I carry a rolling luggage rack because that luggage can get pretty heavy especially when you are carrying your helmet in. My luggage stays on my bike when I'm only staying 1 night. I use a detachable roll bag that I carry my toiletries and a change of clothes for the overnighter. I also take an extension cord with multiple outlets so I can charge everything in one place. There's more but you'll figure out what you need the more you do long distance travel. Just remember to stop before you get to tired and don't be in such a rush to get to your destination that you forget to take in the sites and enjoy yourself. Be safe and keep the Shiney side up and rubber side down
Best feeling in the world is music up lous and flying down the highway- ON YOUR OWN! Have fun and be safe!
Always interesting to see how others prep and pack. We are off on a long trip in a few weeks, not quite as long as yours but around 1000 miles. Thanks for sharing!
Victoria's secret tyre repair kit? All the best from Australia. Been using J and P for at least 10yrs.kept me on the road.
Sweet I kinda dig solo trips. I just did 5,262 miles in June
In June! On a motorcycle? My hat goes off to you.
Solo is best !! In 87 i did the 4 corners ride , 10.200 miles in 3 weeks ! Our country is huge !!😄😄😄😄😄🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎🍺
Hell yeah sounds like a nice long ride and one by yourself you can stop wherever you want to rest pee or eat and you don't have to ride at other people's Pace maybe you like to go fast maybe you like to go to slow you just stay in your comfort zone and do what you want
Williston ND to post falls Idaho. To Aberdeen wa. To Coos bay OR to Fontana Ca then reverse the trip
@@Freedom_rider3 damn. Crazy. i actually live 1hr from fontana
It is good to see you being so excited about riding and trips. It is all so new to you still. I'm 70 and been riding since I was about 12 on dirt bikes but I had my first pan head when I was 16. Anyway have fun that is what it is all about, and assume very car on the road is going to pull out in front of you or is out to get you, and look for a safe route around them. (free advise). But in joy with all your heart. my old bike has 245,000 miles on it and my new one that i bought in April has 12,000 already. I'm waiting for fall weather before my next long trip another 3000 miles, when your 70 you and heat don't get along much anymore. do it all while you are young and healthy. don't be afraid of doing a lot of cross country trip. they are a blast being a girl just be watchful of people around you. and be a where of your surroundings. with a good head on your shoulders you will be alright. and remember those with the most miles win.
Girl you are living the dream, enjoy. I wish I had done more things like solo road trips when I was younger. Take things on this trip as they come, no road trip goes completely smooth. Remember it is about the journey and the memories made, not about everything going perfect. Safe travels young lady.
There’s a Facebook group called bunk-a-biker, you should check it out for your tips! Bikers from all over that would allow you to stay with them for a night while you’re traveling.
Watch that storm, have fun
+1 on the water bottle. I keep mine on the seat behind me. Raingear within arms reach. And... I kept the big ol' amber turn signals on my bike too. I love the way they look. Bugslide.
GOOD LUCK ! I have found packing for multi-day trips is a personal thing ! I used to worry about did I bring this or that ... FINALLY .... before one trip I realized I can buy ALMOST anything I need on the road. You did THE MOST important thing first which is inspecting that bike. SO HAVE FUN ! CAUTION: IT IS VERY ADDICTIVE !!! You will soon be trying to figure how early can you retire so you can do it full time ..... RIDE SAFE ! Cant wait to see your videos .....
I'm going to sturgis next Sunday, its a great ride, did it Last year had a good time. Forget Florida......head west, lol.
Don't forget mosquito repellent mosquitoes are bad in Florida and they're pretty big love you Channel love the update can't wait to see the next video That's My Hometown Miami Florida born and raised 1964 God bless you and your family and stay safe peace out💯👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💯✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️💯🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈💯🐊🦈🐠🐟🐎🐔🐓🐢🦩🐍
Have a fantastic trip Jess. 🏍💨
Have a safe and enjoyable trip. The Rotopax is a great idea. I'll have to remember that one. I use them on my Jeep but never thought about carrying one on the bike. Not sure where you're going in Fla but if you're crossing the state on I-10 it is pretty desolate on the stretches before and after Tallahassee. I just made the trip from central MS to Wheeling WV; went through Chattanooga and Knoxville on the way up and Columbus and Nashville on the way home. Stopped in Farrow East; and of course Downtown; had to get my "oldest Harley dealer in America" T-shirt and chip. Also stopped in at Neidengards; that was a really nice place. Youngstown dealership was huge and really nice people too. Anyway, has a happy and safe trip.
Ride safe and have fun! Florida i am sure you are aware Florida is having a major outbreak of Covid so be careful
I love watching your videos, keep safe!
Jess, thanks for your tips for the road trip. I got a couple of good ideas to add to my list. My last road trip was three weeks ago - too much fun. Travel safe and enjoy the experience!
Super tidy setup, love it. Good to see you bringing a jump pack, and tire repair stuff, thats really smart.
I have never used anything on my saddle for a long trip always heard sheepskin was the best looking forward to your review and the Wild Ass gel pad
Stay hydrated....It's HOT here!
Great preparation and packing, looking forward to you update. I don’t have a sissy bar or bags so haven’t gone camping or long rides like this yet so learning.
Good luck on the trip. Be safe and have fun.
Leak?? Harleys don't "leak".... They just mark their territory.
triumph too !!!!
That's funny.
You need to put that on a T-shirt.. I like it...Well said...
👍
I had the most well sealed Triumph in town. It’s been sitting a long long time . I’m pretty sure the same oil is in transmission and crankcase from 1991
The only place it used to leak was from seeping through the head gasket ( ??? )
Don’t begin to tell me all Triumphs leak. They’re only as good as you put them together.
Awesome video! Im about to be riding from Maine to Columbus, then down to Florida, and back. Just getting ready for the trip and found your video. Thanks for sharing!
You are AWESOME!! Prepared, free spirited, and courageous. 😃 Have an amazing trip and may it be smooth, easy riding all the way down. SO COOL!! Please let us know you got in okay. 👍🤙
Thank you. We need more young blood and especially women riders. Best wishes and god be with you!
Young blood goes with young motorcycles. Harley has its genuinity, but sofar failing to produce modern style cruiser for 21st century. Both technology and style is very backwards. It really struggles that's why loses people. Older guys dont feel it, but younger do. Ask Italians to make over and Germans to give some insight into the engine and so. It will pay off. Look at the futuristic BMW cruiser. Man thats some bike. All the Harley guys will say about some spirit or what ever is a crap. Doesnt work. I like harley sound its history... Its like JEEP. I love JEEP. But please man... especially that black big front mask over the old style body looks so ugly. If I would be CEO of Harley I would make that company flourish once again. All those guys in the top management are just narcisistic self centered living in their own bubble, at least sound like by the actions they lead the company to disaster.
Let me guess, you’re headed down to hang with those hooligans like Blockhead and Shadetree?🤔 Ha! Ride safe and have fun!!
A well thought out packed rig! Keep the rubber side down! I won’t ever go anywhere without sun screen, a rain suit, and water! I transferred from San Diego to Maine when I was in the Navy.... made that road trip on my Goldwing, back in the day and left without sunscreen like an idiot! The first two days was desert riding. I have a Ultra Classic now and have gone long distance on it several times. Gotta have those three things. Good idea bringing a gallon of gas! Be safe!
You packed most of what I would also pack, but there are a few things I'd add.
First and foremost, I keep a six-pack can cooler strapped to my luggage rack. I fill it with Vitamin Water bottles that I froze the night before. That way, they'll stay cool all day, and I put snack bars in the pouch in the lid. I outfitted my handlebars with a chrome bottle holder that fits Vitamin Water perfectly, so I don't have to stop when I need a drink.
As far as regular, every day items I keep in my bags is a small emergency tool kit. You can find a Motion Pro T-handle socket sets on Amazon that have the most common sizes, but you can always supplement with odd-ball sockets from your main toolbox. I also have a weekender set of Allen wrenches I take with me.
I will be adding a Roto Pax. Thanks for that tip!
How was the “wild ass” it’s comfortable ? Plz share your feedback
"These are the things I hope I don't need... rain gear." That's what we call foreshadowing, folks!
Rain gear is sitting at a gas pump awning for 2 hours while the storm rolls through or sleeping between the ice maker and firewood at Food Lion on the Outer Banks
Derek F “Welcome to the Gulf Coast: where the actual temperature doesn’t matter, and you’re just as wet inside the rain gear!”
@Derek F Hah yeah, I live in Florida and it's pouring as I write this.
Number one thing to prepare for on long trip. Rain. Rain gear so you can ride in light rain. Things to do under freeway bridge when it’s raining too hard. Extra clothes to change to when you get soaked.
I used to travel around my state ( shorter trips ) with small pup tent on handlebars and sleeping bag rolled up with a washcloth and soap inside of it strapped behind me. Bare bones.
You better BOLT that stuff to your bike.
Cracks me up to see people quick strap some stuff to their bike or even car- trailer.
They’re getting out every 20 miles to make sure it’s still there.
@@silberfj even if you do get caught in the rain it's hot enough to where you'll be dry in 5 minutes rolling down the road.
You are so SO organized! After absolute essentials, I usually just keep adding random things 'till I can't fit anything else. And then, on the road, I can't find anything (wallet, cell phone, now where did I put that after using it last time?) I'm going to bookmark this for reference and use it in the future. Have fun and be safe (and not necessarily in that order)!
Be safe young lady. Your new gear is awesome!
Living in Florida, I never travel far without rain gear and sun screen
Beats snow.
It looks like you got just about everything except a first aid kit.
have a great trip...stay safe, eat/drink safe, spread smiles and good luck!!!
Good luck on your trip. I actually just did this myself because I'm headed to Sturgis. I threw a video on my channel about my pre-flight checks I do before every ride. Whether you have someone do it for you or you do it yourself ... it's uber important to do a head to toe check on your ride. Have fun!
This chick is awesome.. Wish she lived closer, cause I would ride with her any day... Keep on riding an stay safe. 👍🏻
Florida’s a no-helmet state. Lots of bald guys baking in the heat and getting sunstroke and disoriented on their bikes. Elderly drivers too who don’t signal, don’t look to the side and brake too late. Keep a wide perimeter!
I live in Florida and absolutely agree with what joseph bianco said. Here You've got really slow drivers, really fast and aggressive drivers, lots of folks drifting into your lane as they text and drive.....and those are the GOOD drivers! I'd suggest plotting a course that keeps you as much as possible off of I-95 (if you're coming this way) and out of congested cities if you can avoid.
I recently purchased a Nelson Rigg commuter bag for my back seat and absolutely love it! I hope you have a fantastic and safe trip!
You are definitely organized and prepared. Safe travels!
Dayum, Martha ain’t playin! 😁
I got it all! 🤣 snacks, ibuprofen and everything!
If you pass thru Pensacola give a shout out!
OMG YES SO IT'S FINALLY HERE :D ♥️
How did u get her logo by your name?
For camping in hot weather a little sprizter bottle in the tent - a little mist over the body cools you down and can make all the difference for sleeping soundly on hot southern nights. Back scratcher. That's the spot.
Wish you safe travels. And have a great time. Can't wait to ride along with you!
Take pictures of all your important documents... I also stash some cash and a spare credit card in a secure location just in case... Create a checklist on your phone, hate getting on the road and discovering I left something critical behind. Have AAA for a tow in case the dreaded breakdown happens. Also, download the GPS route maps, if you loose cell service you won't loose navigation. You might want do invest in a SOS device, not very expensive and if an emergency happens you can summon help. One more ... Some pain meds might be advisable, something that won't make you sleepy. And, stash a spare key with the cash...
You should meet up with shade tree surgeon, he’s a cool dude
Yeah I love that dude.
Great video! I just got home from a 15 day 6,130 mile trip across America. It’s great out there.
Hi Jess, looks like you packed very well. Riding to Florida from Ohio, you should be on the best side of the weather. You’ll have a great trip. I have ridden from Florida (my home State) to Cody, WY a number of times and can’t wait to do it again. Love road trips. Looking forward to seeing your videos of your trip. Be well, Doug in Germany
Lols! "I'm going to Florida and I'm going to die."
I never travel without Jesus and my Bible
Have fun, be safe. At this time of the year in the South, we have daily threats of afternoon thunderstorms. Sometimes you get nothing, sometimes severe storms, and everything in between. I use my phone and weather radar updates to make sure I'm not riding into tornadoes on long distance trips. Looking forward to your post-ride report.
If you are planning to use Interstate 75 - avoid taking the interstate through Chattanooga, detour onto main roads such as US-41. There is a ton of construction and they periodically shut down the 1 remaining lane to move equipment through. I pulled through there last week and sat for over an hour at a stand still. As others have mentioned, use the loop to get around Atlanta.
That sounds like it will be a great time. Have fun and be safe. Also I love the Dyna!
This is a lot better than watching over weight ungroomed men riding Harley's. Lol! Go girl!
His mask below the nose isn't doing much good.
I thought I was the only one getting annoyed by that lol
The mask period is not doing any good...staying 6 ft. away allegedly does the most good. Those masks don't stop droplets :P Besides, most likely the mask is from China too!
You’re awesome! I love your confidence! Please be safe and remember that motorcycles are invisible to other drivers. Have fun!
Looks like you are very well prepared. Have a safe trip. Look forward to your reports.
You don't need "masks". You wear a full face helmet I walk around everywhere with a helmet on even if I drive my truck.
Good Luck in your trip to Florida. Looking forward for the coming videos. cheers.
Followed the story on your IG story. Super jealous you were able to do this. Glad you made it safe and sound. Stay well Jess
Jess, I love amber turn signals too. I had them stock on my black Road King Special. I really like black-amber contrast 👍🏻 Have a nice trip!
Fantastic pack job/check list. Thank you for that.
I do not travel without my rain gear and believe it or not my pillow to sleep on. Can't sleep very good without it! Glad you're back safe and sound and look forward to more of your trip videos!=)
Stuck my pillow in front of luggage (in waterproof bag). Used to help support back. Lovely.
Hi Jess, well done with your packing, may I make 1 or 2 suggestions. 1. Keep you're tools and safety kit on the right side of your bike, if you are ever pulled over and have to work on your bike, stay on the right side of the bike to ensure your safety from traffic coming from behind you. 2. Keep your PPE on the left side all you have to do is reach over, open the saddle bag and pull out the jacket as this limits your exposure to traffic. Safety, safety, safety. You will always notice motorcycle cops access most of what they need from the right side and also mount from the right side also.
Stay safe and have fun from Virginia! Looking forward to all the awesome content you’ll capture for all of us.
you will absolutely love the wild ass seat cushion! We have 2 (my wife and I) - started out buying one to try it out and before the day ended we bought the 2nd.( from J&P Cycle of course) Just don't put too much air in into it - you barely need any air - too much air defeats the purpose. We tried pumping it right up at first and then let air out as time went on. Good luck!
Been riding for nearly 50 years I've rode Coast-to-Coast more than once you are caring more stuff than I ever did only took one pair of boots the ones on my feet never worried about sunscreen or covid-19 the main thing is keep the rubber side down your knees in the breeze be safe and have fun love your videos you are awesome 👍👍
It's amazing how little you really need, she'll figure it out. Also I've gotten to the point were I don't camp anymore. You have to carry all the crap and then there is the time it takes to set up camp in the evening and break down in the morning. A cheaper motel isn't that that much more expensive than a good camp ground.
Great video and good vibes sent your way on your trip. Just took my bike to Florida two weeks ago. I wanted to ride the bike, but, trailered it down. It wasn’t a pleasure trip, moving down in about a month or so. I have a Road King and can’t wait to be down and ride. Love your videos. Can’t wait for the updates 👍
Good luck and have a safe awesome trip!!
Its good to have ur bike checked for a trip. And I hope ur bags are waterproof 🤣🤣 Have fun and stay safe out there!! ❤
Great video Jess, I always keep my right saddle as my emergency bag so my back is away from the road. I always carry a tire repair kit and air pump and some emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Safe trip
As a Florida bike rider, I think you will love having a mesh jacket. The heat just walking around is one thing, but wearing full gear on a black bike in the heat is killer. I'm glad your not hiding from the "high" covid counts in Florida, its not been as bad as the media says!
Enjoy the Ride!!! Safe Travels!!!
I agree I think with all the camping and road trips you like to take. You might want to look into trading up to that road glide. You can opt for a removable tour pack. So while you are around here you won't need it. But if you go camping or what not. Throw it on pack it up and move on down the road. Good luck and safe trip.
Thank you for this video and so many others! I've been watching your videos (and Doodle on a Motorcycle, As the Magpie Flies, The Girl on a Bike, and others) as I prepare for my cross-country trip in April. I bought a BMW F850GS in Newport Beach, CA and I'll be driving it home to Charlotte, NC... stopping at a lot of National Parks to hike and explore along the way. I won't be camping - I'm too old for that. Ha! I'll be in hotels and airbnbs and will UA-cam my journey. Thanks for being an inspiration to me!
Someone else may have mentioned, it, but the clear map cover on top of your tank bag is useful for tons of stuff. Garage door openers, credit cards for gas, route notes, scribbled reminders....you'll find more the longer you have it. Great video!
How exciting! Jess, you pretty much nailed it. I do keep a cloth for glasses and helmet shields along with one for the bike. I do enjoy those solo trips and having a quick bike check is the smartest thing to do. 👍🏼
I’ve always try to pack heavy items as low as possible with lighter on top, then a little test ride to feel if I have the weight dispersed evenly. I use cube packs in my bags, just make it easier for me, including my camera gear, cords and batteries. I didn’t care for my air hawk (just never really felt right) but like to hear how you like the gel seat cushion. Have a great ride Jess!
Be well and ride safe! Oh yea, and if you ever make it out here....🤙🏼
Awesome job on packing that bike it is a long trip by your self ride safe keep the rubber down and your spirits up too thumbs up.
Best wishes on a safe & fun trip! Loved your video as usual!
Very well planned and thought out.
Looks like you thought of everything, good luck on your trip, be safe.
