Season 22 is also one of my very favourites - up there with Seasons 7, 12, 13, and 14. Love it! I never did get THE TWO DOCTORS on BBC Video, as I owned an off-air copy I taped in the early hours of the morning, back in 1993, as part of the then 30th anniversary celebration of DW in Australia. It was a good year for fans. Almost all of the Davison era (Barring THE FIVE DOCTORS) was repeated, along with Season 22. The last time I saw Season 22 was on its original Aussie transmission in late 1985 and early 1986. So the Season 22 repeats (also repeated in 1994) were very welcome and long overdue.
Thanks for this Greg, I am also a fan of Season 22, it was great to get back to the days of a full season of episodes with just the Doctor and single companion from start to finish. The Two Doctors a great story, nice to have an equivalent of an old six-parter. Robert Holmes doesn't waste a line of dialogue. I consider it his last great script.
I love S22. Unironically. I agree Colin looks so good in the role even with the costume. He's bold and arrogant, so he wears clothes to suit...I love that. Of course he piled weight on before the Trial season but the worst was JNT telling him to grow his hair out so it looked more like Tom. NOBODY was going to tune in just to see the show because the main actor has long not short curls. One of many "shut up Jon..." decisions of the 80s.
Another great video thanks. I know the feeling about getting to conventions where transport is limited - I've only been to one convention and that was only because it was held at my father and stepmother's home town - this had Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant in attendance and they were great.
I had an opportunity to see the 'Two Doctors' on a big screen at a Doctor Who convention (December 1987) in Cleveland, but my brother and I had to catch the last bus home!!😢
I love this episode, written by the incomparable Robert Holmes, widely regarded as the best of the shows writers. A cast with Jacqueline Pierce and the rest and of course, Patrick Troughton. Terrific.
Some of the best 6th Dr stories in this season Eating my Tea ( Beans on Toast ) when the Cannibalism part of the story is explained I can't believe it was shown at tea time in the UK
My memories of the BBC changing it’s idents involved tutting and grumbling ‘why did they have to go and change that’ A good example is series four of Red Dwarf aired in early 1991 and the ident changes between episodes one and two. ua-cam.com/video/SMMN11kXde4/v-deo.htmlsi=MahXS9tAKJB3mWZL
@ Ah that’s great I love that they found all the film negatives for it, loving the uploads and passion you have for dr who and other tv series keep up the good work sir
@FromTheArchive1 but it would have been interesting if it had happened. Love the new video Greg. Not watched it all yet, just upto your T60 tapes and your contact in Chicago. Take care. A
Never noticed the curtains in Cyber Control. Lol. But I did notice the fancy colour co-ordinated blue lino trim in both Cyber Control bases (Earth & Telos). Looks real pretty! Season 22 was, sadly, the last time that 16mm film was used for the location filming. From S23, it was cheap & nasty videotape. A great pity, as the beautiful, misty morning shots of the Doctor & Peri on Ravalox (future Earth) looked very impressive - more so, if filmed on 16mm.
Love the costume albeit the Season 23 variant is a bit iffy. That overbearing studio lighting is an issue not the costume. It looks awesome on location filming. JNT does let things slip production wise post Caves. Love the novelisation of The Two Doctors. Peter Moffat is difficult to enjoy. Hat trick is a cricket term originally.
Alas, transmission will always be scarred by the cancellation/hiatus 'crisis'! The video came out during the 25th anniversary, which was appropriate and that was scarred by 'Dimensions in Time!' Always surprised it was an early DVD choice.
I've often felt the higher the definition they achieve these days with their picture clean up and enhancement, the cheaper the programme looks. So many 'sins' were hidden by low definition - even though at the time this was the best you could ever hope for!
I prefer the higher definition to the murky videotape picture quality. No point in lower definition: it may hide the flaws of the sets and costumes - but not the occasional poor direction, acting and rubbish dialogue the classic show offered.
There’s a nasty edit when you started to talk about Troughton, dead in his DW costume. You’ve edited something out? I’ve heard the rumours: a weak heart and being in female company hours before his death …
It is a shame Colin Baker was not the Doctor for more than 2 years, and he had the potential to be a superb Doctor and stamp his mark on the part.

Yeah … the star looked like sh*t in Season 23. Not a fan of the season, but did enjoy VERVOIDS and did like the new companion, Mel.
Great to see a new video

Interesting stuff.
The continuity's are my favorite special features on the blu rays.

Those shelves are wonderful! Quick question are you familiar with Worzel gummidge? John Pertwee In the main role it’s a great little British series
I am. I own the blu-ray sets for both Worzel Gummidge and Worzel Gummidge Down Under :)

@@robtheoldmongoose7546 That's very kind. Thank you very much!
Richard Hurndall (20th Anniversary 1st Doctor) died April 1984, so planning for S22 was being done at this time.
As I mentioned in the video it wasn't true.

I apprecaite the correction with Hat Trick. I learned something new today. Thank you!
I thought Hat Trick derived from magic.
@@sg-zd8eb The plot thickens.....
You see more of the Tripods on that video disc cover than you do in the actual programme. Am I right, lads!!

So weeeeeird having announcers and advertisements for this show using an American accent (seeing this from Australia)

I couldn't possibly comment...... ;)
