I’m a UConn alum, and I have to say that as UConn was developing under Calhoun, Duke seemed to be the yardstick that we used for measuring our progress. Beating them for the national championship showed us we had arrived.
A pleasurable 30+ minutes with the incredible Coach K ... Duke fan or not, basketball people all over the planet know that he is remarkable. Long Live MIKE ....
Well, we have knocked them out of the tournament more than once including the championship game. We also have lost to them but every game was a war. Duke didn't want to see UCONN in the tournaments over the years and vice a versa
UCONN has been a blue blood since at least 2014 if not 2011. Championships is why they play. And I'm willing to wager that there are some bluebloods that would trade resumes with UCONN in a heart beat over the last 25 years. 5 chips speak very loudly. In regards to programs like duke, kansas, UNC, MSU. What's the point of all those wins and final 4s if you aren't closing the deal. What's most impressive about UCONN to me, is they've accumulated over decades, and with multiple coaches. That's huge to me.
@@mrsain19 UConn broke our hearts when they broke JJ Redicks heart in 04. I'll never forget how that game turned on a dime once the landlord fouled out and Okafor came back in with 4 fouls and just took over the game. How ironic that 11 years later another Okafor would be the most important player in getting us to a championship game, though Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen would be the keys to the final game itself.
@paul herring I remember both games very well and share the sentiment. Arguably UCONN is sitting on alot of hardware that Duke let slip out of their hands. ALOT......of hardware.
@@nickrizner456 Actually I think UConn has won all 5 of the title games it played. With 3 different coaches no less. That's a record that's unlikely to ever be exceeded.
I see now your comment was before UConn's thumping of SDSU. I hope everyone appreciates the performance UConn put on in defeating 6 teams by a combined 120 points. That's flat out domination right there.
I attended the 2011 Sweet 16 games between Duke and Arizona, and San Diego State and UConn (Yup, got to see the Kimba Walker flop in person). There were many people present, and the crowd had a natural din to it, but when Coach K walked out from the locker room, there was a general hush in the crowd, as everyone just felt his presence on the court. Coach K transcends legendary, he is the GOAT coach in the history of the sport. Aside from the Kimba Walker flop, the 2nd most bizarre NCAA Tourney incident that I've witnessed was seeing the Stanford Tree mascot assault the St. Joseph's Hawk mascot during a timeout in the 2001 Regionals.
You really trying to denigrate the best postseason run for a player and his team in NCAA history? 5 wins in 5 nights in the absolutely stacked/brutal Big East, then 6 straight in the big dance. You'll never see something like that happen again my friend.
I'll never forget Christian hitting that shot at buzzer to beat UConn, I couldn't wait to get back at Duke...they DID, but Mike was the standard...plain and simple, a legend
Over 1k wins, won the ACC championship 15x, won a National Championship 5x, made the final four 13x 🤦🏽♂️😂😂 that’s not even half of his accolades!! KUDOS & SALUTE!!
The disrespect SDSU continues to get is unreal. They are not a surprise team. They have been good for decades now. If you think it's a surprise that they have made it to the final four, then you're either a fool or in todays world... maybe a midmajorist will be the new term lol
If they win this national championship tonight, they are going to have to change their color to blue just like our jerseys!!lol Since 1999 that would be 5 titles and that puts them right there with Indiana and also puts them ahead of Kansas. So they have had success for a few decades now. I've been a Huskies fan for over 35 years now, hopefully we can get that 5th but we would also need a few more Final Four appearance as well. If we are talking about consistency of winning, the Huskies have been winning 20 plus games since 1999. I would have to look up the actual number but i think I am close.

@wiltchamberlainisthegoat344 that is a great post, well hopefully we can come out on top tonight and keep building on the legacy. I agree with you on Kansas being the bluest of the blue. For Uconn to be right there in the conversation makes me feel good about how far the team has come since the Dom Permo days.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT If UConn is the "new rich" every coach in D-1 would give his left nut to be called that. The only thing on your list that UConn is lacking in is "consistency of winning". I can buy that but you can't beat going 5 for 5 in finals games. Once UConn gets that far they've yet to lose. Impressive. Even coach K only went 5 out of 8 in finals games.
Can't stand UCONN. I've been a die hard fan since I was a little kid and they got blown off the court by UNLV but they never gave up even till the last minute diving on the floor for balls. That being said, I have said that if Uconn knocks Duke out of the tournament one more time, I'm done.
@@robertdominguez4003 Oh really? Who is your candidate for GOAT college coach of all time then? And before you name John Wooden remember all of his national titles came in a time when a team only had to win 4 games to collect that trophy instead of 6 games.

Coach K is right about UCONN not being considered a blue blood. How many teams have 6 final fours in 24 years?
