    I always found the A340 to be reminiscent of the DC-8 or 707. It was nice, but I don't think I have ever seen one in person.

    They were designed with slightly bigger engines in mind, but that engine never came (at least not in time, PW1000G is way too late), so they kinda have to use CFM56 instead.

    Late 90s v early 200s always preferred the quieter (more soothing frequencies?) A340-400 over the 747-400s from London to HK. And four engines - more reassuring to me at least

    Hi, I have actually, I flew one when I was 7 years old from MRU to PER, it's a nice aircraft I think and later in 2011 I flew on my first A340-500 from SEZ-DXB-SEZ, it was also when I boarded my first A380 from DXB -LHR. I know totally different variat the 300 and 500 and different engines too, the 500 being bigger, but I still love it and still do. I also enjoyed seeing Edelweiss operate their here in SEZ.

  • @tntfreddan3138
    @tntfreddan3138 18 днів тому

    The main reason behind the 4 engiens was due to the rules in place back when the A340 was in development and started manufacturing. A plane was required to have 4 engines for redundancy reasons if they were to fly over large bodies of water such as the Pacific or Atlantic. Almost as soon as the A340 entered service the rules were changed for economy reasons. And the reasons why the engines are so small is because the technology of the engines they wanted wasn't put into a final commercial product until in the mid 2000s, nearly 20 years after the A340 entered service so they had to use what was available and would fit. The A340-500 and A340-600 has much more powerful engines, nearly equal to the Boeing 747. Its max take off weight is also nearly on par with the 747 family. It actually has slightly longer range than the 747s, too.
