For those of you who are following along with this video, and are getting errors related to the size variable, you're probably using Processing 3 instead of Processing 2. The developers made some adjustments in 3 which crippled the original Asendorf code that worked just fine in 2.
To get pixel sorting to work in Processing 3, you can simply save the code here in a new workspace, or over the old code:

From there, just follow along with Bozott's video. the only things you have to adjust are your filename and extension (as reported in the video above), as well as the dimensions of the original file you'd like to sort (put this in where it is indicated in the code annotation). Cheers!

When i click run on a selected image file, i get brown banner at the bottom saying "cannot find anything named "surface" and in the code a portion of it is highlighted yellow that says surface.setResizable(true) ; Is this because my jpg is a certain size it cannot do or am I doing something incorrectly?
to fix surface error just delete the 2 lines containing it, easy.

Hey I am using a version 2 but I get an error cannot find anything named "surface", I tried to comment lines with surface but then I get a black image. And in third mode I get an error Negative Array Size Exception.
I faced the same issue
In case you are getting an error or crash when running, even on the included pics. I fixed this by running processing as admin.

boski never happened with me, make sure you're not using 3 and make sure you downloaded it for the correct bit for whatever your system is
Ofcourse I'm not using 3 and ofcourse it's the right version, a lot of people are saying it's something to do with Java but most error reports are on MAC. Useless to me.

The file "pic.jpg" is missing or inaccessible, make sure the URL is valid or that the file has been added to your sketch and is readable. What should I do with that?
that is an example, use your own image and name it whatever you want, but I guess you should use the same name so you won't get lost...er

as for the code, you could read it and understand what is going on specifically
or if you don't need specifics, you could google "how does pixel sorting work"

Wow nice, But If I would apply the effect in images 1000 x 1000 px aprox, I need to use the version 3?, If I use the different lines, how I rotate?... Im spanish :c

I keep getting a "null pointer exeption" error, it says my file is 'missing' or inaccessible. The pic should be in the folder with the code right?

I have processing version 2.2.1, the image is a png named pic and its in the same folder as code but this error comes up when i try to open it: "I don't know how to open a sketch with the "png" file extension. You'll have to install a different processing mode for that"
I also tried with the images given and it had the same problem.

Make sure you resize the image as well as set the filename!!

easiest way is just to rotate the image, run the code, then rotate the image backwards
if you want to change the code you are gonna have to do it yourself

did you use the right image extension?
try opening the image in a different image editing/viewing program.
do you get an error message when trying to open image (if so what does it say) or is it just fully black/white
I did use the right extension, however when i use a jpg it automatically exports to a png. I than can open the image in preview but it's just a blank screen (not even white or black, there are no pixels at all)
im error : could not find sketch size.

try it with the default images you get given.

how big is your image? try resizing it down.
can you give the exact message you receive when you try and run the code?

you are using the correct version of processing (2.*)
you have the image in the correct location
you have spelt the image name correctly
If none of that works try it with a different image or with the default images

I was using 3 and tried to do the size but no prevail so I just downloaded 2.2.1 ( pretty sure thats the version anyway)
