We had a math melt down last October as well! God lead us to Denison Algebra and ohmygoodness what a blessing!!!!! We are doing the same thing based on the subscription time and not ordering right away. The only thing I don’t love about it is that when my younger son (who will be in pre-algebra this year) is ready for Algebra & Geometry, I can’t just pull out our old books. We will need to re subscribe. But it’s worth it to have a kid who finally GETS IT!! ❤
Those are great choices. We did and are still doing BB Biology, for me is a Honors class. With the videos there is a lot to it and my son being a sciency guy loves it but it was taking too long so we will have to finish it this coming up year. I am not trying to scare you, it's an excellent book I just wish I would have known these things before hand.
@@ourthriftyhomeschool You are welcome. IS it a requirement in your state? Like for us we have to have Biology with a lab to count so I feel like we have to do all of it. But if your state is different you could adapt it to your child. I for sure won't be doing that with my second child, she is a different type of learner and I know she will get overwhelmed fast.
We love Berean Builders science. It is so solid. The microscope labs in Biology were incredible and the dissections were…. gross but necessary for the lab credit. 😂 We were doing microscope experiments almost weekly and my nephew who attends a really good public school in our area said they only used the microscope twice in his Biology course. We are doing Chemistry this year but I don’t know if we will use their Physics. I paged through it at the homeschool convention this year and it looks brutal lol. We are loving Denison math too. My oldest loves language arts and is not very math brained. She actually enjoys his lectures which is a huge blessing! You have some great choices for 10th grade! Praying you have an awesome year 😊
lol 😂 i love how honest you are! They are going to be gross! Thank you for sharing your experience with Berean! Your choices sound great! Thank you for the encouragement!
If you go with Berean Builders Chemistry next year, here’s 2 UA-cam sources for teaching. - Michelle Thompson, look for the ones listed as Chemistry (they aren’t in a collected playlist, but they’re mostly in order on her channel - Homeschool Chemistry channel has all the problems worked out for each chapter
We loved Berean Builders science last year. I’m doing their Earth Science with my son this coming year. You know how you mentioned that the math just made sense to your daughter’s brain? That’s how Berean Builders science is for us. Thanks for sharing!
We love Denison Algebra. We jumped around so much before finding it so I had my twins take Pre-algebra in 9th grade. They both were happy with it and moved onto Algebra for 10th grade. My HF autistic student needed the Success course and was so happy they offered that. For the biology, one son will be observing his brother’s dissection lab and taking notes so we are returning his kits. On TeachersPayTeachers they have 3D paper animal kits for another option.
I just finished ordering all my curriculum including Denison. Looking forward to it. My son went to private school last year and has to relearn pre algebra. I was thankful for that assessment that they offer. He’s in 7th so I felt we had the time to reinforce that level before moving onto algebra. He’s also going to learn typing this year. Writing by hand is torture to him and selfishly I would rather read something typed from him than deciphering his handwriting 😅 80 million dollar science 😂😂😂 Science really stumped me for my 7th grader too. We ended up signing him up for programming. It will be live so it feels like 80 million, too but installment plan for the win 🙌🏼 I am scared about “too much” this year. 😬 I’m hoping it will all be so interesting that even if it’s heavy we’ll be alright. Worst case I can drop stuff that doesn’t work but that always feels like a fail lol.
Just wondering for new Homeschoolers I get the, " I've already done that math Mom"? I there a online placement test for our kids K-12 grades. So we can gage there curriculums? Thank you Toni
I am honestly shocked at the lack of rigor in these courses. Any chance of getting into even a semi competitive college with scholarships seems out the window. Kids here take geometry in 8th grade. My sophomore will be taking both college algebra and college physics this year.
Try to understand that not all kids take college classes in high school. I know plenty of people whose kids take algebra 1 in 9th grade. That’s great your kid is in such rigorous classes, but that’s not for everyone.
It’s not every student’s goal to get into a competitive college with scholarships. I can assure you the courses themselves are rigorous. I started college when I was 16 and my kids are learning more than I did in my educational career. I actually feel like I am reclaiming my own education by teaching my kids from some of these same curricula. More and more homeschoolers are taking the CLEP tests and testing out of college classes too. But all that aside… It’s shameful to ridicule another mom because her child isn’t on the same educational path as yours with the same goals and intended outcome. We need more kindness in this world. Geesh.
Kids here take geometry in 8th grade?? No way. Maybe one kid. A very bright kid. Definitely not most kids! Her choices are excellent and appropriate for her child.
We LOVE Denison in our house! It has been such a blessing!!!

Yes! That is a bummer! But I agree...its totally worth it!
We are loving Denison math for one of my children.
We❤ Denison Math too. 🎉

Thank you for the heads up! I really hope its not too difficult for my daughter. We will see! 😬

I have heard soooooo much about Denison! I am excited to see how it goes for your daughter. All of her choices look fantastic!
Thank you! Denison has been such a game changer for our homeschool! Hopefully
it continues!
Ooh fun! I’m so glad you showed her Language! I’ve been wanting to see the booklets!! 😅
It does look so good!

I have heard so many people say that Denison math is AMAZING! I will definitely keep it in mind for when we get to pre-algebra.
yes! definitely keep it on your radar! We love it!

I have heard a couple people talk about the paper dissection kits! That's a really cool option!

It sounds like you're doing it all right! I hope you have a really good year!
@@ourthriftyhomeschool thx! Same to you 🤗
I used A foreign language youtube video set it works great.
That’s a good idea! I might try to add some UA-cam videos to our learning for Spanish bc it’s harder than I thought 🤪

Most curriculums have a placement test. I’m not sure which curriculum you’re asking about, but they usually have them on their website.

@coutney Thank you for this! I really appreciate it. ❤️
Sometimes it is better to keep our mouth shut. Be kind. That comment was not kind. :(
