To get ahead of the comments - I received 2 free products for this. It is a promotional video. Hope that’s clear. That being said, you will see me use this mic for the next 2 years minimum, because I do really like it!
You have not had any issues with audio quality that some other reviewers is reporting? This include strange noise in 32 bit float and most problematic; some copies of the transmitters have a very dull muffled sound?
@@GrenlandUnderVannI saw that, and I went back and tested again. I noticed nothing like that. I do know DJI has stated a firmware update is coming soon.
@@51Drones Current firmware is on DJI page and I can confirm that this is the same as on the kit units now available. Firmware 04.02.01.13.
DJI keep smacking it! Crashed my m4p last week. No dji care. They still took great care fixed my drone and gave me a discount, they done it all for 76 euro. It's just took slower than the care package would have.
Great info, thanks
I really appreciated the comparison, thank you Russ!
Hello Russ, thank you for your excellent overview and testing of the new DJI Mic 3 Wireless Microphones. Wow, your testing at the Community Center sure showed how well the new wireless mics work in real-life situations. Nicely Done!
The new DJI Mic 2 has important new features, and its worth upgrade if you take advantage of them. Great review, and thanks for sharing.
Very impressive
Could you do a video using the DJI Mic2 with putting audio onto the DJI Mavic Pro 3? Thank you.
Nice one russ 👍
Nice 1 Russ
A bit more than I'm prepared to spend at this point, but excellent review. It's definitely on my wish list.
The DJI MIC 2 does indeed work with the native iPhone camera app: ua-cam.com/video/fYL9JlM1_yI/v-deo.html
Is the 32 bit float only when u record internally? Not on the go whilst recording on phone at same time?
Thanks Russell. I didn’t buy yet until I watched your video. You sold me sir.
I know a few people were complaining about some inconsistency in the noise canceling, but I did not notice any of that. I do know that DJI has stated that coming firmware would resolve any of those issues.
The noise reduction is on all the time when I use it with my Action 4. Even when you turn it off it's still like a medium noise reduction and there are times you want the background noise i.e.outdoors activities like fishing walking etc.
Good to know. Thank you.
Does it work with the insta360 acepro through Bluetooth ?
I appreciate this review. Very focused on usability and not specs.
One item I did not see you touch on that's been a hot topic in the past is the ability to lock the lav wire to the transmitter. My understanding is that they did not include this (unlike Rode), but someone mentioned they offered another solution. Can you share your thoughts on that? Thanks!
It does not lock. I am not familiar with any alternatives, but I have not researched it either. I personally do not like using lav mics because I hate wires.
DJI actually give you a (sort of) solution to «lock the wire», by looping it into the clip on the mic there is a channel there for the wire to go, so it (sort of) holds the wire in place making it harder to pull it out by mistake - it works, it’s not a «pro» solution I would say, but it works in a pinch :)
What i'm really curious about is if the Mic 2 also works with a stereo shotgun mic (e.g. Sennheiser MKE-200 with 3.5mm jack).
If it does, it will be a game changer for live streaming in the go where I use both ambient and voice over mics.
Won't do stereo but I was able to get around the always on noise reduction by using a Euditage etm-001 plugged into thr 3.5mm jack.
Does the MIC2 also work with the RC2 controller of the Mini 4 (screen-capturing with audio)? USB-C or even better BT? Would be great to know before I buy them ... Oh, and is the lightning-adapter still MONO like on the MIC1?
I believe so with USB-c but I haven’t tested it. I will and report back.
So the 32 bit is only for the transmitter and not the receiver. As in I can’t use it to record straight to my camera in that feature??
That is correct.
Wonderful feature set but just can't get around the sound quality for me personally. Everyone seems to like it though and probably most consume youtube on a phone or tablet anyways not a home theater system like we watch on.
One question... If you only buy one transmitter and not the receiver, does the transmitter record 32 bit float internally?
32 bit float is off by default on the mic unit. Without the receiver there is no way of turning it on (other than borrowing somebodys receiver), no button combo’s or anything. I made a video on my channel about how it’s also not possible to do backup recordings on the mic if connected by bluetooth to smartphones (dji states this on their website, although hidden behind an (i) icon you have to click on). Videos coming up with audio examples showing difference between receiver audio and bluetooth audio (spoiler: BT is worse than with receiver) check the video out for more details :)
Oh, forgot this: IF you get 32 bit float turned on by borrowing a receiver, if you use just the mic, not connected to anything, in «green mode», ie not bluetooth mode, you can start and stop internal recordings, which will be 32 bit float, so it *is* possible to use it standalone, IF you can get it turned on using a borrowed transmitter.
Another great video. There's something about this mic that i just don't get. I see creators using the mic one and it's clipped right onto there shirt like a lavalier. But this big bulky black square thing with a windscreen is hanging on there shirt. Is that really how these are to be mounted? Or is there some kind of an extension where you have an invisible small lavalier that attaches to the black box?
Yes, you can also choose to use a lavalier. It’s personal preference if you don’t want the mic showing
@@51Drones I see this on news TV in Norway all they day. They just uses the big mic without any lavalier. But norwegian broadcasting seems to favor the Røde Wireless GO2 / PRO.
@@51Drones Ok, but doesn't that circumvent the entire purpose of this microphone? Wouldn't the lavalier become the microphone? So the quality now becomes how good that lavalier is? Or is DJI selling I approved lava lyrics tension for this. I just laugh every time I see a video with a big black chunky square right on their chest. Something doesn't feel right about this. I see the comment about people in Norway doing this. Maybe it's becoming the new acceptable look for on camera talent.
It’s a quick and easy way of attaching a mic on the talent :) Mic and transmitter rolled into one, no cables to tangle with, slightly less quality on the audio but usable (at least the røde pro) - but also compatible with lavaliers if one prefers using good quality lavaliers for better audio quality then the «box» becomes just the transmitter - but the increase in usage of these are mainly from ease of use and no cables, turn on, sync, done - compared to the huge handhels mic’s used just years ago where the interviewer held a huge mic in front of their face and forgot to hold it up to the interviewee you can now just clip on a couple of these and everybody has sound :)
@@timfreeland55057I agree. What is the point of a wireless mic if you gonna put a Lava on it and make it wired?
This might be a stupid question, but does the mic record without being plugged into a camera etc?
Yes. It has onboard storage. You have to hit the record button though.
Those microphones sound amazing. But theu also sound very expensive
In your opinion, how would this fare against a shotgun mic for someone like myself that films wildlife? BTW great video!
Shotgun would work much better for wildlife, as it’s not Omni-directional. More focused.
@@51Drones pretty much what I figured but that small size is really nice. Hopefully one day they will make a super small shotgun mic to go with that transmitter.
hey man, good run down of the main features :) One important point missed though: the mics can’t do backup recordings when connected to phones with bluetooth, so no 24 bit or 32 bit float as a backup when using it standalone on a phone - which is double bad since bluetooth audio is *not* as good as the audio when connected to dji receiver (which also allows for internal recording). Made a video about it on my channel with some workarounds - but it’s a lost opportunity for dji so far (especially if they can’t add this with firmware update) - also since you can’t turn on 32 bit float without a receiver - several people bought just the mic, and discovered they can’t do standalone internal recordings in 32 bit float, just 24 bit, and only in dji receiver mode, unless they turn it on with the receiver. Check out the video for some more details :)
Hi Russ! Love your content! As a fellow videographer, audio monitoring is key for me. I've been trying to connect my DJI Pocket 3 or DJI Mic 2 to my bone conduction headphones via Bluetooth while recording for wireless audio monitoring. I've asked around on UA-cam and the DJI forum but no luck so far. Any chance you could share a wireless solution? Thanks a bunch!...... really appreciate your help here...
Among all the Wireless Mic at this price range, the DJI sounded the worst. It's not even a subjective thing about sound quality, it just sounded lower quality than others at the similar price range. The mic while never marketed as match, they are not consistent, one sounded darker and another can sound brighter. What's worst is that, these DJI mic are way too bright and thin which is less suitable for spoken words application which is what this mic is used for. I like everything about this mic except the sound quality. Rode wireless pro sounded the best but I don't like the form factor and their case seemed "forced" but if I had to choose. I'll still go with the wireless pro in a heartbeat. Did I mentioned that these DJI Mics are not shielded? Or poorly shielded? They are not a mic company so I understand that, but these are basic.
It's just too expensive, you can get around a wifi mic for 10$ or just use your smartphone
The DJI mic two is junk at CES. The better choice with all that interference would be Lark M2 × 1
Lol rode pro is WAY better sound quality.
