- In this video, I am lure fishing at Lake Nillahcootie and I will teach you how to catch yellowbelly on lures in dirty water. The water was a lot dirtier than normal, but the yellowbelly had no trouble whatsoever finding my fishing lures.

Great to watch as always thanks for sharing Mate:)
Nice yellas & greenies!
Thanks mate.
Love them yellow belly hits.
Great to see a happy man singing in his boat trying to catch a fish.
Thanks Vincent. When I sing you know that I am happy. Haha
wow nice
Good one mate enjoyed that one 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much Cam. 👍👍
Great job catching a few in that chocolate milk :) Looked like a great afternoon to be out on the water. Cheers!
Thanks for excellent video your kayak fishing is always full of expectantly snd thanks for the tips
Thanks so much Peter. As the weather continues to warm up I will be using my kayak more often and that excites me.
Great video as usual Robbie.
Thanks mate. 👍👍
💛...seems like fishing is always a great confidence booster...that, and fresh fish for dinner...
Thanks Harold, it's definitely a great relaxation agent for me..
love rex hunt i rember watching 80 odd VHS tapes of him 20 odd yers a go
Rex is a hero to so many of us and a good friend of mine.
Solid session mate👍
Thanks mate. 👍👍
I love how you always forget to bring something.😂
Haha I'm an absolute shocker for it. And on the rare occasion that I don't forget to take something I usually forget to bring something home. LOL 😂
Perfect size for a catch n cook. Xx
YES.... But not on this occasion. LOL 😂 I definitely want to film a yellowbelly catch and cook soon.
Thats a great session in dirty water mate
Thanks so much Mic. If I drove to Lake Hume and found it that colour I would turn around and come home. Haha
Great vid Robbie m8 keep it up
Thanks so much mate.
Lovely video, thanks, glad you got a decent one for dinner, I won't be going for a while here, we've got floods everywhere, take care, Norfolk,UK,Ray
Thanks so much Ray. Another flower of mine from the UK told me that he has had 100mph winds..WOW
Stay safe over there mate. 🙏
Awesome vid! That yellowbelly was a bloody keeper alright! 😁🎣
Haha thanks mate. I have to tell you that it was the nicest fish that I have ever eaten. I filleted it, and then coated it in a chicken coating and fried it in butter. It was unbelievable.
@@robbiefishingI bet it was 🙂 congrats, well deserved feed! 😁
That water can cloud all it cares to, still a beautiful day on it
Thanks mate, I agree. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon..
Nice vid mate
Thanks mate. 👍👍
Execellent video mate, glad theres you tube because nothing to watch on tv.
Thanks mate, and I agree. The poor free to air TV is my greatest asset. Haha
Solid yella fishing, Very well done bro 🤙
Sincerely, Lobes 😂
Thanks so much Lobes, 👍👍
No worries my dude
'A bit rusty' ...... like the pliers perhaps 😁If you want days without wind, lay off the baked beans 😂 Nice session, can't believe haow dirty that water was.
Haha thanks Frank. The pliers probably are rusty. Wherever they are. 😂😂😂
You were loving yourself sic haaa . Great video Robbie mate. I like your manual version of a fish finder. Hits the bottom just head out slightly. 😅.. Ps you should keep a little spare pair of pliers on the canoe 🛶.
Thanks Camels. I was loving myself sick mate. 😂😂😂 That's the state of the art fish finder right there, a middle aged fisherman with a bit of nous. LOL
Hiya rob
Great stuff mate ... there is something magical about being afloat.. cracking fishing,
Rob when you showed that big yellow belly laying there all prepared for lunch, it reminded of an old recipe from down in Cornwall called
" STARGAZY PIE "
made from sardines, which when prepared leaves the sardines poking through a layer of mash potatoes.... it was the angle of the head lol....
Rob thank you so much and hope the car is sorted...
😎🏴
Thanks Mike, that sounds like an interesting dish mate. I agree, floating on water just had that something special about it doesn't it. Thank you for tuning in mate.
Hey Robbie,
You should film a video dedicated to story’s of loosing rods in the water or tools phones etc. should bring back memories of people doing the same think. Especially if they lost a rod on a fish.
Hi mate, thanks for the great video ideas.
Well done Robbie, another great video 👏. Always good to watch your videos for inspiration (not that we really need it 😆). I feel your pain getting blown around Nilahcootie - but at least you get a good workout. We had the canoe and kayak on Wingan last week and were able to troll with the wind without putting a paddle in the water! Different story making our way back upwind.🥵 Keep up the good work and see you out on the water! 👋
Thanks so much mate. It sure can be very rough over there can't it.
I had a really good session at Nillahcootie early spring caught 5 yellow belly between 15-42cm and a 75cm cod. Kept two yella’s safely released the rest
WOW That's fantastic, well done mate. It's an awesome lake to fish in isn't it.
@@robbiefishing it always is I’m heading there tomorrow after work for another session see what happens
Might have to get myself a kayak for this lake ,spent a whole Sunday there got donuts 😂 🤩
It's just started fishing really well now mate. A kayak or boat isn't essential, but it will certainly open up more areas for you to fish.
@@robbiefishing awesome to hear that might have to head out there on my Sundays off keen to get back to work in wang this week
Hi Robbie good to see you get a few👍🏽Mate talk about the wind it’s been a shocker up my way just seems every day it’s blowing.
Thanks Al. It's so annoying isn't it. I guess, it is spring time and probably the windiest time of the year for us.
Lucky you realised about your rod BEFORE you got too far along lol.
Haha Geez I'm goofy at times. LOL 🤣🤣🤣
Mate, I got home oe time and realised I had left all my rods sitting in the carpark. Got back 2 hours later to find them still there, thankfully it was a night session. Another time, I left a tackle box full of lures next to the car. Got home and realised, returned and it was gone. All old balsa Boomerangs and stuff. @@robbiefishing
Give the imposter prawn 🦐 a crack crush city lures holy shit.😂.
Word up Homie! that place looks like it will become Yellowbelly Capital in the future with the number of small yellowbelly.Suprising it was denude of all redfin, do you catch them at all in there these days? Your not wrong about calm days being far and few between lately, blocking high pressure system come at me! Dreaming of March/April.Great video keeping it simple as always! If it was me i would have to have a sounder, a rodholder and a flourocarbon leader ect ect, you know me🤣
Hahaha I can just imagine. LOL 😂😂 planer board and stumpjumpers. Haha
I caught a redfin there last year. The odd one is caught here and there, but they are very few and far between these days.
Great to see the lake on fire now its taken sometime bit your spot on the wind has been shocking can't catch a break
Thanks mate, you're not wrong. It's so annoying.
Great video, sounds like you really needed this session🐟
Thanks mate, I certainly had a ripper time after a stressful week.
Pa to get split ring pliers 110mm plastic ones brilliant good to have on clip orbootlace system.
Thanks mate, excellent idea. Thanks mate..👍👍
@@robbiefishing bcf small split ring pliers 4.50. I got 10 leave them all over lol never short.
Awesome mate good to see those 4kph winds are back lol. Awesome session, beautiful fish those yellas good sign for the future! Thanks for sharing
Haha thanks mate. Those 4kph winds are so annoying. LOL 😂
Your kayak videos are my favorites. Nice day out on the water great to see you enjoyed yourself. 👍
Thanks so much mate. 👍👍
Great video mate,
Great to see you out there on the kayak. It sure does take a lot of skill to troll on a kayak
Thanks mate. I love this form of fishing.
Welp, you've successfully got me back into freshwater lure fishing. Going to the dam on the weekend now hahaha...
Haha that is so awesome, good luck mate and thanks for the great feedback. 👍👍
Nothing better than a Robbie video, keep it up Robbie!
Thanks so much for your kind words Rian..👍👍
Don't worry about forgetting the rod,, I would have forgotten the paddle.
And where would we be without our paddle?
Hahaha that's funny. 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Robbie, It’s Peter from Seymour, We spoke a while ago about boats and bad backs and how you like myself prefer bank fishing so you can walk around a bit.
A mate and I who you know hit Nagambie today for the first time this season in my boat and it was a good day, 5 Reddies, 3 Cod biggest 64cm which went back of course and a huge Mud Marlin. Promising for the Cod opening. But I’m nearly a cripple tonight.
My Question mate is how does your back handle the Kayak as I’m just about done with boats especially with 2 people in them moving around.
Cheers 🎣🍻
Thanks mate, well done..it sounds like you had a great day.
The kayak can be a killer on my back. These types, the sit on top types are better. Sit in kayaks are murder.
As a bad back sufferer I'm sure you know that there are worse times than others. When I'm going through a really bad time with my back I won't even entertain the idea of using my kayak.
A larger kayak with a raised seat might be a better option, but they're very expensive.
It's hard to imagine a kayak being better for your back than a boat to be honest.
Hey Robbie if you could you should travel to Stanthorpe there are lots of cod over a metre in the creeks
Hi mate, thanks for the great tip. I would love to get there one day.
Hi Robbie, why were you trolling and not casting?
Hi mate, I wanted to keep my lure down deep.
I see you don't have stabilisers on your kayak, have you ever rolled it and lost everything?
I recently lost gopro , phone and two rods about 100 metres from exiting cause stupid me decided to open my hatch and listen to some music for the last bit of a trip . Not sure what happened but next thing you know I was in the water ! Lesson learnt and stabilisers fitted now. Love ya show keep it up.
Thanks Sean. Gee mate that sounds like a disaster. I'm glad that you are OK.
I have only ever once had a bad accident. I tipped over in the Ovens River near Tarrawingee in 2011. I killed a DSLR camera and lost a very expensive G.Loomis fishing rod.
The current was strong and I hit a lot..
Other than that I've never had any major incidents.
Hey Robbie just asking if you have been to burrandong dam before
Hi mate, I've driven past the turn off for it many years ago but have never actually been there. I hope to some.day.
@@robbiefishingye mate its worth it I reckon also WINDAMEAR
Great to see so many little yellas in there! Cracking session mate, who would have thought in that dirty water! Maybe the magic hour wasn't so magic because the water visibility got too poor with less sunlight? In any case well done on a great kayak sesh
Thanks mate. I'm not sure, all I know is that it was as dead as a doornail at sunset.
The full moon came up about 2 hours before sunset, right when the fish were biting. Maybe that played a part? I honestly done know.
We've both had great yellowbelly success this week. 👍👍
Hey Robbie. Just wondering if you’ve ever caught a silver perch in Nillahcootie I caught wat I thought was one Sunday but have been told it may be a Macquarie perch ?
Hey mate, I haven't caught one there, but I've seen photos of them and know that they are being stocked in there. My guess would be that it was a Silver Perch. 👍
@@robbiefishing awesome mate thanks for the reply I thought it was a silver perch just didn’t know they were in there. Happy fishing.
Wow that’s a crazy good session mate even tho the water was pretty dirty you cleaned up great stuff mate loved the video
Thanks so much Michael. It's amazing how the fish could even see the lure isn't it..
Yeah it sure was mate I have never fished there but looks like it’s definitely worth a crack
Wow mate, that was bloody incredible! That water was very dirty… I wonder why. I’m going to Echuca on Friday, can’t wait! Amazing mate, keep it up
Thanks so much mate. Lake Nillahcootie is forty at the best of times, but I think recent rainfall has made it even dirtier than normal.
You need to have more than one pair of pliers. In total I have over 4 pairs in all my different sections on my fishing gear
Thanks mate, that's an excellent idea. I might buy a small pair to keep in my kayak for emergencies.
G’day Robbie. The water is a bit murky for sure mate, still productive at the same time. I’ve been wanting to get myself a kayak for so long, I would really love to try one out on some of the lakes down here for trout. Great video again mate and keep up the great work.
Thanks so much Wayne. I love my kayak. It's like riding a motorbike, it's all about the solitude.
Is that a sinking, suspending or floating lure? Also how bad does the wind need to be for you not to go out? Over 15km?
Hey mate, which lure are you referring to? I know one is a floating lure but I'm not sure about the other. I'm pretty sure they're both floating.
There's no set wind speed. It all depends on the wind direction, size of the lake.etc... there's a lot of variables..
Great session Robbie and the wind surely is a pain in the backside.
Thanks mate. It's been every single day lately. LOL This was the calmest day of the month. Haha
Water is always dirty there
It sure is, but not usually this dirty. 100mm of rain overnight a couple of weeks ago has had an impact.
Hey Robbie. Just wondering how much line to let out when slow trolling like that? Going to Bonnie Doon this weekend and I have a big slow kayak. Good to know trolling still works at a slow rate of knots.
Thanks mate. It all depends on the lure you are using and how deep it dives.
There's no set value, but in this video I had probably 20 metres or so out. If the lure is dragging the bottom you can wind more in to make iy run shallower.
If you let more line out of will dive deeper, but there is a point where it will then start to come up and swim shallower if you have too much out.
With these types of lures 20 metres or so is a good starting point.
If trolling Tassie Devils for trout, I will often have 50 metres or more out to keep the lure as far away from the boat as possible..
The water is awful dirty. The fish cant see the bait. Be careful God bless.❤
Thank you so much Becky. God bless. 🙏
you are going for that I'm not touching you pot.
