    David, turn the tabs "down" like legs and you can eliminate the tabs interfering with the lid. It will work just as well. When you're through cooking, pull it out, turn it up-side down in the cup and the bottle will fit right into it. Thanks for the tip.

    Great video and I love this idea! I think that most vegetables taste better steamed than boiled.
    I'm not sure how well this might work, but if you make the "handles" on the aluminum mesh a bit shorter and use them as legs to hold the mesh up, the lid would fit properly and the vents in the lid could act as a strainer to retain the veggies as you pour out the water, however you would need to take care not to scald yourself with steam when pouring the water out.

      Bill Campbell You, my friend, are a genius. The lid snaps on slightly, so I bet it would work. Thanks for the tip! :-)

      David's Passage
      Minute Rice rehydrates/cooks well in a freezer bag and Reflectix cozy (takes about 10 minutes) with just boiling water, so you could repurpose the boiling (flavored) water that steamed the veggies to cook rice. Add the steamed veggies to the cooked rice as a side dish, or add a pouch of chicken or tuna to the rice and veggies to create a main course.

    I found a perfect steamer which i can also use as a french press. The glass cup of my french press broke off so I tried it in my pathfinder cup ànd it fit so perfectly. It's become a triple use, a french press, steamer and a strainer!

    Hey nice video. I had an idea, instead of bending the steam rack cut them off and utilize the holding holes in the upper sides with the fish mouth opener to hold the steam grate in place ???

    Great video! I too, enjoy steamed veggies rather than boiled veggies, sooo your video was certainly a welcomed option! Thanks for the video and all you do for other campers/bushcrafters, etc.!

    Leave stinging nettle on the stalk, run it through the flame or over hot coals until stinging hairs are removed, then eat. Just takes a few seconds.

    Thank you for a fantastic idea. I am going mod a steaming rack for my Trangia cook set. Thank you again. Steaming is a healthy was to cook.

    great mod- suggestion? why instead of using the tabs and bending them the way you illustrate, cut them down to desired height and use them as FEET to keep your veggies above the water line? think collapsible steel colander....

  • @MichaelMixson
    @MichaelMixson 8 років тому +1

    Use the fish mouth spreader to hold the steamer in place that way you can trim off the tabs and be able to use your lid!!!!!!

    How about you twist the wire "arms" so they go through the slits for the fish mouth spreader?

    • @DixieLiving
      @DixieLiving 9 років тому

      Your set is very nice. Pathfinder really has a handle on durable, functional gear. I use a 4 Dog Stove anodized bush pot with alcohol stove similar to yours. Think your steamer mod is smart. You can stack veg and meat and cook it all.

    7:46 To poach means to boil gently submerged in a liquid, or simmer. Maybe you meant to seam a fish?

    • @malthus101
      @malthus101 4 роки тому

      or even... "steam" ! haha

    • @76irodriguez
      @76irodriguez 4 роки тому

      @@malthus101 That mesh thing is not submerged in the liquid, thus it only serves as a steamer basket, not for poaching. No matter what he said in the video, it won't work for poaching if it's not submerged.

    First cover your mesh with masking tape. Then mark it out. Make your cuts, and remove the tape. Great video.

  • @johnrutherford4042

    why didn't you use the cup and put it straight onto the plate drew round it then cut the template out then stuck it to the mesh and then just cut around the paper template cutting the mesh at the same time , good vid tho
