I imagine the new sport utility line will be more reliable, but slightly more expensive. One great thing about council is they haven't jumped on the super thick handle bandwagon like other companies.
Very true. I first found out about the boys axe after watching your videos (many moons ago). Like it or not, it’s your signature axe. For the money it’s hard to beat. In the uk it’s competitor is the hultafors 2 3/4lb. The ct has more edge length and a nicer shaped handle, it’s also half the price.
Yep! You convinced me to get one a while ago. It has since done a lot of work! I kind of use it as an experiment axe to some extent, and I’ve learned a ton.

If you want to see an option for finishing that handle, "Log Cabin Looms", here on UA-cam uses linseed oil, Turpentine and Pine Tar,...and his wood seems to hold up really well. The Vikings used to use Pine Tar in their ships to make them water tight. (You probably know all this,...but I though: Just in case.)

I started to do an SKS with it, but ran into another project and just gave it a quick layer of tung oil. Eventually I will scrape it down and totally redo it with the mixture,...when I get a second to breath.
the store near my house wants 55$ cnd for a council tools 28" replaceent handle for my boys axe. That's highway robbery. the thing is i might buy it bc there doesnt seem to be any replacements on amazon.
Look around a bit, if nothing else you can 100% find a really good hickory handle for that price. Or just go to your hardware store, my axes are used for bangning wedges alot and even cheap beech handles have withstood the abuse. If you can find a hardware store handle you like the shape of, just buy it

Council tools should name the boys ax Skilcult as everyone has followed him in buying this ax. Me personally I have different conditions that don't seek small boys ax's but they work well in North America woods.
Dude, Council tool is inexpensive but not Cheap!. Here in the States when you call a product CHEAP it means inferior. Council Tools produces a fabulous product at an affordable Priceline. Yes, a person can buy a $1,000 dollar axe or a Velvicut felling axe for $250 and both will preform the same. Both are balanced and exceptional tools. I have used the axe you call CHEAP on our ranch for years and it chops trees up like a sausage at dinner time. So there is my Yankee opinion. Thanks for the video…
I bought mine 6 or 7 years ago when they were still around $36 or so. I'd wanted one of the Forest Service axes with a little better steel but none were available at the time. Right after I bought the red one, they showed up. but it still is a great little axe for the money. Dad had one while I was growing up and I always liked that one.
Tractor supply has a 28 inch 2.25 lb $15 dollar axe I ground in better edge and refiled and then sharpened with 180, 400, next sharpening will see same plus 800, 1500, 2000 I cannot brag enough on it being totally comparable to the side by side use of council tools $150 bad axe boys axe straight out of box
I gave my daughter a council Tools Boys axe a couple of years ago. The handle sucks, the head is cast. My 40 year old True Temper Boys axe is a lot better axe. My Scandinavian Forest axe is light years ahead of either.

I see what you mean but some axes are so sticky that it's really hard to release then. You obviously want the to penetrate deep but release with minimal ease. Thanks for your comment

Slip some old hose pipe over the file end so you don't have to use a buffer when draw filing.

Don’t bother with it and just buy another 28 inch handle. You have loads of options in the states compared to the uk

No sticking?? Loos like it sticks almost every swing and that’s why you need to rock the handle to unstick it.

The best way to rurn it into a good axe is to buy a Gransfors Bruk Scandinavian Forest axe.

That's why the maul is wedge shape, it either bounces or it splits and doesn't stick soo much,, still sticks too though
