I had the single of this great song that came with 2 other beautiful songs. This is my favourite britpop band ever. Do it yourself its a stunning album. A pearl hidden in the heart's tender history of rock'n roll

@@inacornernot sure but on the Spotify version the lyrics are the ones the person above wrote. Think they might have had to change the line for some versions as maybe religious people got offended
@In A Corner Definitely a re-recorded first 2 verse lines for a music video. You can Easily tell the difference of the sound from the first 2 verse lines to yhe 3rd and on. Starting with "Dont believe in the wars we fight" one can tell the compression value is Much higher than the first two lines. The irony is "Dont believe in censors". "Have we gone too far?", is literally a response to the music TV of the time. Couldnt say Jesus and couldnt say Jah. Quite cheeky, actually. Cheers.
For a guy who was really quick to say he wasn’t in influenced by the 1960s, Squire is very determined to play Rickenbackers, Gretschs, and write Lennon-esque lyrics
Brilliant track, have seen Chris Helme twice in Leeds as a solo act. Will be seeking more of his material from now on, he's great as a solo act! However I love this classic by the Seahorses.
Squire's best guitar work on the album, I think, in this song. Not too intrusive but some nice runs and riffs. This one is a real grower. I didn't like it as much at first but listening to it now it's right up there with Blinded by the Sun. Pity they had to change the opening lines for the single: DON'T BELIEVE IN JESUS - DON'T BELIEVE IN JAH!
I love Squires guitar playing on this entire album. So subtle, soulful and melodic. It really is a great guitar rock album. Too bad they only released on LP.
I would say, as a working musician, that he (Squire) overplays on this album, but that's guitarists 4u, they never know when to shut up. But, quite a good album overall.
Great memories.. the album was produced perfectly.. squaire wanted to use the same studio set up as rockfield, but didnt want to go back there ( after just sending 4 years with the roses living there) so the album was recorded in L.A the only other mixing desk that rockfield have..
Wow, I searched for years to hear this version, after reading that the US radio version removed the Jesus lyric from the first line, I never knew about the 2nd line, and never thought to check the video!
Sorry, are you trying to tell me the first line was censored because he says "DON'T BELIEVE IN JESUS!" Blasphemy laws in 1997! Oh my fucking days, I'm going to explode.
I'm looking for a song between the mid 90's till 2005, I always thought it was Supergrass but it's not. I only remember the end of the song with the lead signer (a young man) singing haha-haha what-a-ta and then a men choir reapeting haha-haha what-a-ta with a depper voice, thanks a lot
Sounds about right. When Richard Ashcroft tells the tale of Liam doing backing vocals on the last track on Urban Hymns, he says this: “I mean there’s lots of jokes within the album,” Ashcroft told BBC 6 Music. “Liam Gallagher is on the last track ‘Come On’. I don’t think anyone knows this, but if you concentrate you can hear some demented guy screaming ‘come on’. I imagine everyone thinks that’s me, but I remember him doing it. He arrived at the studio with the tape of a song he’d just done with [Stone Roses’ guitarist] John Squire. He proceeded, as he does, to play it 15 times in a row in the studio. I played him ‘Bittersweet [Symphony]’, then I said ‘we’re doing ‘Come On’ now, you gotta be on it. He went into this booth with someone else, and he was going ballistic at the end of it - smashing the tambourine against the side of the vocal booth, screaming.” Oh to have been a fly on the wall! Such an amazing time for music!
Year 1997,I went to a club,I meet a girl and this girl was a big fan of oasis... Me wearing the t-shirt from the year 1995 second line of oasis.she told me about this master music magic thing call the sea horses....
I once told John Squires that I thought he took over musically, he was a bit shocked. on reflection he was awesome, and the seahorses were much better in my view than the roses. different, and the songs were beautifully sung by chris. DIY is still on of my top ten albums.
Occasionally I've thought that too. His guitar, while being awesome, nearly always plays lead the whole way through, no gaps, so it can sometimes become the song.
Chris did have the IT factor especially in this 60s revival look and sound. And I side with Chris over Squire, they would’ve been a lot more interesting adding that folk 60s element in their tunes and getting away from Johns attempt to be Jimmy Page guitar rocker. It’s like Chris needed the Squire from 1989 and they would’ve been beyond amazing
Can someone enlighten me here? The lead singer sings 'Dont believe in Santas' in the first line. I dont hear him saying "Dont believe in Jesus" . lyrics i find online says "Dont believe in Jesus" am i missing something here? is this a different version or something?
still stands the test of time! most groups of the Britpop mid 90's scene do, it truly was a great time for British music. 🖒
In my view a very underestimated band.
Bloody loved Seahorses ..Remember watching them in Manchester whist pregnant with my second baby..such a shame they disbanded

Probably 1 of the best songs of that year !!
Highy under-rated band imo...
This was co-wrote by John Squire and Liam Gallagher. True story.
liam wrote the chorus
+sideyone1 Thankfully he didn't "sing" on it!
+skul1974 You're a better singer, obviously!!
+Neil Carroll I've farted better notes than Liam Gallagher can sing! So yes, probably! 😉

They actually recorded a second album just never released it called minus blue

@@DaveLennonCopeland that's why you're a "working musician" and John Squire is a superstar.

Takes me back to easier care free days. My brother introduced me to this album when i was 9. Awesome! Just awesome!
love the fact the roses re forming , but i hope the seahorses do to one day :)
Finally got my hands on a vinyl copy of their album this week! One of my favourite 90s albums!
