Their best song in my view. Cool as it gets musically and a stylish video treatment. Gets me in the stomach to place myself back in the mid nineties when I thought I had worries but didn't realise I had it so good. Now I'm 48 with the future behind me!
Dear people at Suede Official, This video is so gorgeous and classy. People need to experience this at 1080p. If only it could be done...It would be breathtaking!
Mid-90's... what a great time to be young. Everyone lived their lives instead 'updating it for facebook'... people weren't buried in their phones and actually talked to each other, and we had brilliant music like this in the charts.
this kills me it was the soundtrack to my teens, now i'm 36 and I cant believe it's all gone so fast. For all I love this song it reminds me of what iv'e lost and what has gone. It's shit getting old. :(
I'm 51 and when this was out I frequently travelled from my home in Ireland to visit a friend who lived in south east London - I used to listen to Coming Up obsessively whenever I travelled - it seemed to me the perfect backtrack to the seediness of Bermondsey and Deptford which I loved.
Something I can tell you by looking at the comments- Most of us would like to go back to the 90's, at least for a while, no matter if we were 10 or 20 when this song was released. I don't find the same kind of comments regarding the 2000-2010 period.
They really were one of the greatest bands of the era. Their debut remains, along with August and Everything After, Ten, and several others, among the greatest debut albums of the last 30 years or so.
I bought the double CD special edition of Coming Up at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square the day it came out in the US in 1996. One of my happiest memories.
I was 10 when this album was released. Turned 11 in the winter. My mom bought this album and I borrowed it. I loved it then and I love it now. Sadly I never got myself to get their other albums as the interest went in other directions when I was old enough to actually make money and buy my own CD´s. It´s been 18-19 years since my Suede-period ended, but now I´m gonna collect all of their albums. It´s about time!
My mate - who has a background in clothes retail, worked for Moss Bros, etc. - loved this song but commented on the irony of singing "we're trash,me and you" while wearing really expensive clothes and surrounded by expensive items!
THANKS to the universe there is a pub disco still play this song and it feel like heaven on the dance floor, , but you can dance at home feeling blesed you still alive to enjoy this fucking song, LETS DANCE PEOPLEEE
anyone else get a sad feeling in the pit of there stomach when listening to this? takes me way back to the break up with my first serious girlfriend. 19 when this came out.
better add she broke my fucking hart at the time LOL made a big deal about "trashing" me by snogging some twat infront of me, the slag LOL found my best mate, got booze, dropped some speed went home had a smoke and listened to this, proper sulk on lol, great days tho in a weird way, atleast I had cool cloths and haircut! would not change a thing, wish we could have it all back :-)
I'm 42, when this came out I was a 19 year old Indy kid, with a hollow chunk of my hart torn out, and every time I hear this tune it takes me straight back! Can't believe how seriously I took life back then ,Between the speed and the hash and the booze and the swerving college. I'd do it all again tomorrow.

***** I remember in 2000/01 discussing with friends how Britpop just seemed to be fading from popularity. But when you hear this then I think how did it even end?
Tal vez sean los momentos que hemos tenido, los días perezosos, las manías y las modas, tal vez sea nuestra dulzura ... tú y Yo somos la basura sobre la brisa, somos los los amantes en las calles..
I'm 35,born 79. Grew up in 80s and 90s , when I think about it I feel sorry for the youth of today not experiencing those awesome decades, the movies ,music,tv! It was magical. The shit that you hear on the radio now is absolute sexed up dribble, also kids went out to play and socialize after school, play football climb trees ,light fires and stuff, now kids socialize on fuckin Facebook, it's a tragedy!!
+scotty macg This is a big truth! Kids have no criativity, they swallow shit music, they don't see a CD as a piece of creation and inspiration... Everything is digital... I doubt they know what is a cd booklet or if they are capable to listen to a CD from the beginning to the end!!! I used to spend my afternoons listening to the full album, appreciating every single second of good music, sharing points of view about bands, having real friends, having fun on the streets... SOCIALIZING!!! I miss these days! Suede were my soundtrack... I'm 37 now... oops... so nostalic
+scotty macg omfg, that is just bullshit. people still do that nowadays, just just only hear about all the negatives on the news and articles and such, but much of it are still the same. That comment is pure ignorance, sorry.
Brett Anderson - absolutely amazing voice
Reminds me of fun, girls, being young, drinking, drugs, parties, awesome bands everywhere, all that good stuff. Now I'm old, and I miss it terribly 😭
Their best song in my view. Cool as it gets musically and a stylish video treatment. Gets me in the stomach to place myself back in the mid nineties when I thought I had worries but didn't realise I had it so good. Now I'm 48 with the future behind me!

I'm 51 and when this was out I frequently travelled from my home in Ireland to visit a friend who lived in south east London - I used to listen to Coming Up obsessively whenever I travelled - it seemed to me the perfect backtrack to the seediness of Bermondsey and Deptford which I loved.

One of the best Brit bands ever. I was 14 when this song was out. N today when I mention Suede, I get a blank look from most people.
Growing up in the 90's. Fucking BRILLIANT, wasn't it?
Something I can tell you by looking at the comments- Most of us would like to go back to the 90's, at least for a while, no matter if we were 10 or 20 when this song was released. I don't find the same kind of comments regarding the 2000-2010 period.

Same here. Never see times like that again.
I bought the double CD special edition of Coming Up at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square the day it came out in the US in 1996. One of my happiest memories.
La mejor canción de los noventa. Un verdadero himno para los que la vivimos siendo muy jóvenes
I was 10 when this album was released. Turned 11 in the winter. My mom bought this album and I borrowed it. I loved it then and I love it now. Style in every sense of the word
My mate - who has a background in clothes retail, worked for Moss Bros, etc. - loved this song but commented on the irony of singing "we're trash,me and you" while wearing really expensive clothes and surrounded by expensive items!

British Music. Hail to you champion.
Maybe maybe it's the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Maybe it's our kookiness
Or maybe maybe it's our nowhere towns
Our nothing places and our cellophane sounds
Maybe it's our looseness
But we're trash you and me
We're the litter on the breeze
We're the lovers on the streets
Just trash me and you
It's in everything we do
It's in everything we do
Maybe maybe it's the things we say,
The words we've heard and the music we play,
Maybe it's our cheapness,
Or maybe, maybe it's the times we've had,
