My dad never really liked any of the music I was into growing up until this song came on the radio as he was driving me home from footie practice. I was singing along and he said, that’s a beautiful song. We used to play it all the time. He’s on end of life treatment now. Lost his use of speech of which he was so eloquent, he’s had enough and has ever since my mother passed a little over a year ago, he’s almost 80, he’s had a great life, seen the world and done so much, but he’s ready to walkaway!!! This song used to remind me of breakups now it just fits my dad so perfectly. I love this song so much ❤
That's what music is for and everytime you hear this song you can remember your lovely dad and smile! I do it everytime I hear unchained melody by the riteous brothers which my nan used sing to me always makes me cry but I never turn it off
Aged 60 here now and walked away from so many things in my lifetime, jobs, relationships and my mad clubbing years etc.. but have finally found my peace. Love this tune ❤
Same walked away from drugs/drink-accepted help for my mental health. Now, I am training to be nurse- never in a million years with my past did I think this would happen- never!
@@BM-lw6gnall the best. I have been a nurse for 20 years. I walked away for a while also a lot of other things. Didn't see the benifit of it all at the time. But life is grest again. Best song of the 90's by a country mile!!!! If John Lennon had written this it would have been regarded as a masterpiece. Lovely guitar work by Liam Tyson, very underated player.
MARSBELLA1 It's not a dig at John Lennon, far from it. Just saying Walkaway doesn't get the respect it deserves, just like John Power doesn't. Top notch song writer and a top notch band.
The BBC played this in a montage just minutes after England were knocked out by Germany on penalties during Euro 96….it still breaks my heart every time I hear it.
I always thought if was The BBC, some on here say ITV. Can't be bothered arguing, but that night still remains with me. Shearers 3rd minute goal, Gaza lung, Anderson hit posts, disallowed goal for Germany, then penalties. I think this has been the best Engla d squad for decades.
I watched the semi final at my local in Stretford Manchester, I was at the other semi final at Old Trafford between France & Czech Republic, I was going to watch both at the pub, when I saw an arieal view of Old Trafford, it looked empty, so I finished my pint and caught a tram to OT, I bought a ticket for £10 from a tout outside Lancashire CCC and got in just as the national anthems were being played....It was the most boring forgettable games I've ever seen, 0-0 after extra time, Czech Republic winning on penalties, I walked back to the pub just as the national anthems were being played at Wembley, one of the most thrilling games I've ever seen, gutted at the end, it's funny how I hardly remember anything about a game I actually went to, and remember everything I saw on TV that night.
Saw Cast play this at Victorious Festival a couple of weekends ago and only remembered as the tears rolled down my face that this song has always made me cry.
Remember this after we lost on penalties to Germany in euro 96,I was 21 then and the world was a invitation to grow. 46 now and just ground down by life, that was a great summer. I wish I still felt that optimism about everything.
Terry Venables’ last game. I cried after the penalties and cried again at this emotional belter of a tune. I was 12 and this song has stuck with me ever since
North west has a load of talent, but then so does all of the UK, up there with the best of the best. Proud 🏴🇬🇧 Manny and Liverpool got some of the best talent on show.
I miss these days so so much . Music was everything to us then. This group was one of our top five as kids ... We were so lucky to live through this period . Absolute magic 💕
Remember seeing these guys at Knebworth, Sunday, August 11th 1996 Dreadzone, Kula Shaker, Cast, The Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers and Oasis. It doesn’t get any better than that and it makes me sad we’ll never get that again. I still have the memories though. Simply beautiful tune!
used to play this beautiful song in a flat in London in the mid 90s. listening to this always takes me back to those days though I'm now literally half a world away.
Lyrically if this song was written by Lennon and McCartney it would have been one of their most well known songs, like imagine and let it be its to the point, honest and powerful. It has a message that's universal and is relatable to anyone no matter where you're from, a legitimate classic!

Such a beautiful song and very nostalgic for a lot of people. Transports you right back to the BritPop era of music. So many fantastic bands have come and gone, and many deserve far more recognition. If we had the technology we have now back then many of these bands would be far more popular.
One of my all time favourite songs. An important message at certain points & circumstances in my life, and probably everyone's. Walk away. Why put yourself through it when you've done everything you can? Find an environment where you feel at peace, with people who make you feel valued & whole. ❤️

This song along with many others is the reason why the 1990's was the last real decade of humanity.
Dude, this comment is more true than ever in 2024. 👏🏻👊🏼
Decade of my life, last time anything felt good in this world.
2000’s have been a complete shit show
Probably not far from the truth. Before social media and the socialists took over.
Ironically the internet has made us all worse
I miss the 90s so much. Life was so much better back then.
Morph 1981 the last decade before globalisation and capitalism truly kicked in and made one selfish world.
Morph 1981 me too 🙌🎶🎤🎸💗

This song is criminally underrated, definitely one of the top songs of the 90s.
Underrated by who?
It was hugely successful.
One of the best songs of the 90,s 😍😍😍
Not only a superb song but a wise one too. Speak your mind and be yourself, always, but if you can't win... know when to quit.

What a classic! Randomly came into my head just yesterday! Can’t believe it’s been 27 years 😢❤️🎶
Same here - I just started singing it today and searched it.
Saw him live a few months ago, still amazing
Me too, through my one year old wearing a teddy bear coat. Can't see the connection myself.
This is a masterpiece. I hear a late 60s influence in this song. Brilliant. Still sounds great 2021.
The guitar melody has a very late 60s early 70s vibe too it.
Me too!
You know what, hit the nail on the head there.
And 2023

Such a chilled song that represents a time that was a better than now

Most of it was quality , but there was some shit.

Euro 96 😥 They played this over the outro montage after losing to Germany. I'll never forget it.
Hopefully they will play it again tomorrow after losing to Spain😉😉
Terry Venables’ last game. I cried after the penalties and cried again at this emotional belter of a tune. I was 12 and this song has stuck with me ever since

I remember that too mate .although I'm not England . It was a bit sad

It was Oasis stop crying your heart out 2002 after they lost to Brazil
Evokes so many great memories of growing up in the 90's, John powers vocals on this are unreal
This song is untouchable.. its as good as song writing gets.. it's their Masterplan, their Polly, their Yesterday..
Polly? Nirvana? Steady on. I mean, I *like* it, but mentioned in the same breath as Yesterday and The Masterplan? You must be joking.
I would say Lithium or In Bloom

If you’ve heard all they got to say

Walk away, walk away
If you’ve said all you got to say
And now the words just slip away

Just walk away, walk away, walk away
That’s what they say, what they say
What they say
You gotta walk away
And now you must believe me
You never lose your dreams
And now you must believe me
We never lose our dreams
If you’ve proved all there is to prove
Got nothing left to use
Walk away, walk away
If you’ve done ✅ all there is to do
There ain’t nothing left for you
Just walk away, walk away, walk away
That’s what they say, what they say
What they say
Walk away, walk away, walk away
That’s what they say, what they say
What they say
You gotta walk away
Today
