- Welcome to Rusted Iron Ranch! In this video (Part 3 of the 4x4 Inter Build) we tackle the front axle of the Inter, a Dana 44 Heavy Duty 12 Bolt Knuckle, and put all new seals and bearings in it. Along with the bearings I also replace the brake shoes and wheel cylinders. Thanks For Watching!
Serious rain 🌧
Just fyi. I k ow this video is old but if you need axle parts again in the future you can try torque king. They carry parts for these vintage axles.
Thanks mate, I did look at them at the time although I think postage was a killer some I ended up buying locally. Thanks for watching!
I have a 1970 Ford highboy with the Dana 44 HD closed knuckle hubs. This video helped a lot for me to start on my project.
Thanks
Thanks mate! I’m glad I could help! Now to get the project finished 👍🏻
Hey man thanks for the good vid, saved me from a headache and some busy business if you know what I mean. Descriptive and helpful 10/10
Thanks mate, much appreciated, standby for more vids on the Inter Project soon! Thanks for watching!
Great video. Inspired me to change out the rebuild the front end of my 75 F250. Thanks for taking the extra effort to build the video!
Thanks mate I appreciate it! Is your F250 the closed or open knuckle?
@@RustedIronRanchClosed knuckle. 44 Dana heavy duty.
So the same as this one 👍🏻 start sourcing those parts 👍🏻
@@RustedIronRanch Got em ordered. WIll be here next week.
Awesome! Where did you end up getting parts?👍🏻
Great video Terence, thanks for sharing. There is not much detailed information on youtube about these old closed knuckle axles. I'm glad you took the time to show this. Sammy didn't want to help on this one? Probably too messy for him :)
Hey mate thanks, I agree, that’s why I thought I’d better film it, I was only really learning as I went anyway, but hopefully it helps someone! And no probably too greasy for Sandy 😉
Awesome videos bro. Love old internationals, especially before they became boxy.
Thanks mate, I love old stuff! 👌🏻
Can you just pour the grease into the filler plug at the side?
Curious what you did to clean everything up? did you soak parts you took off in degreaser? And what'd you do to clean up the ball left on the truck, just wipe away large amounts of grease then degreaser and wiping?
Also - what are the different types of grease? black, blue, and the semi liquid I've heard to use corn head grease..
Hi Tyler, Degreaser first, then clean in diesel, and wipe off with diesel or a rag or brake clean. As for the grease, I used the high temp bearing grease (blue) for bearings and semi fluid grease in the swivel hub. Thanks for watching!
Good job. Love the inter. I have a d1310 4x4 ambo so this info has been great.
Thanks mate, I’ll keep the videos coming! 👍🏻
Where did you find the service kit for the front diff.
Finding it very hard to get
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi mate, near impossible! I got the wiper seals from an F Truck wrecker who had them NOS, and all the bearings and seal just from a bearing place. Thanks for watching!
Hej är det en IH ramen ser ut som 58-60, jag två IH 64 å 75 båda med Dana 70 HD axlar
How did you get the hub off? Ours seems rusted shut
Hi mate, it may be hung up on the bearing? You could make a slide hammer type puller to go on the where the drive flange or freewheel bolts to. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
I need a axle hub for a Dana 44 hd on a 1975 f250 do you know where to find ind? Thank you!!
Great video i saved it in fav. Going to tackle my 1969 gmc light duty 44 that is very loose, it whobbles when u grab at 12 and 6 oclock?? Never had it on the road yet, hope to find parts for it.
Thanks mate, yours could be a combination of things, at worst the king pin bearing and bushes are worn, but could also just be ball joints, you will have get into it 👍🏻
Hey mate, recently bought a c1300 4x4 and was wondering where abouts you got your brake parts for the front/rear diffs (cylinder, shoes etc) or the part numbers for them. Thanks for the video
Hey mate, I actually just took a sample into my local brake shop and they knew exactly what to give me, I believe the wheel cylinders may have been slightly different bore size to standard although we’re paired to work with the master which was also gone over. If you get stuck I can find the invoice, although I think the C-Line probably has slightly different spec than my D-Line. Let me know how you go! 👍🏻
Great job! I'm about to make a video about doing the same with a '57 International. Did you replace the spindle bushing? I've had those wear out on two old Internationals, one ended up busting the inner axle shaft from all the free play.
Hey mate, thanks, I didn’t replace the bushing, it didn’t seem to have much free play so I didn’t worry, hopefully it doesn’t come back to haunt me!
@@RustedIronRanch You'd definitely feel it knocking around in there if they were worn out!
Hopefully they’re all good 🤞🏻
Do you know if there is a certain year or something when they went to or from having the dana 70 front axles in the c1300's?
Hi John, I’m not sure if the 1300 ever had a 70 in the front. I think maybe 1410 had the 70 in the front which is the AFA-52. The AFA-52 seems to be the 16” wheel version of the AFA-54 (also a 70) which is in the front of the 1610 (20” wheels). Best bet is to jump on one of the International trucks Facebook group and ask the question there. Funny things Inters, it’s really hard to work out when and why they made certain changes. Thanks
Terence

Thanks mate 👍🏻👍🏻
