That hindsight of "I was looking for trouble, and thank God I never found it" is so true to entirely too many people who don't quite realize it yet.

big smoke that's a quote from oh brother where art thou. "Big" Dan Tate (John Goodman) is beating the hell out of fellows friend with a big piece of wood while framing it as some sort of free lesson. It is obvious that John Goodman character has lured them out there to bush wack them (literally) and steal their money. But George Clooney hasn't caught on , he says I don't understand Big Dan before getting hit side the head with the same solid limb.

I drank for about 15 years of my life due to growing up with domestic violence and then losing my mum to cancer. She suffered a lot because of my dad so losing her just filled me with SO much pain, guilt and anger. It gave me this sort of "NOBODY will fuck with me!" attitude because, looking back, I told myself that NOBODY will EVER make me feel that pain again and if they did I'd destroy them. It really does make you feel invincible. But I was, and still am, a lot like my mum.. Very kind, loving, forgiving, compassionate and empathetic to all life. Part of me hated being this terrible angry person because I knew it wasn't who I am in my heart. I thought alcohol was saving me from the pain but it was drowning me. I lost SO much because of it and saw a LOT of darkness because of it. I gave it up 4 years ago and now have more in my life than I EVER had. My life isn't perfect but I'm who I want to be. I've been a singer, pianist, musician, writer and traditional artist for 27 years. I've been a digital artist, 3D model artist and sculptor, texture artist and animator, using said skills to work with games engines (including Halo CE engine, Source, Unreal 3, Unreal 4 and Unity), for 18 years. I also do a lot of mechanical engineering. When I was drinking though, those things didn't matter to me because I had no motivation... I've got it all back again now ^.^

That crossroads time in life that he describes here is what I miss the most and wish I could go back to... it was uncertain, dark at times, but optimistic. I've lived my future now and it hasn't been as exciting or fun as I hoped it would be back then. I'd give anything to go back to the days of 'holding the trade paper and being the coldest I've ever ever been' , not knowing if I was going to make it or not, but not caring at the same time.

I did the exact same thing as Mr Goodman for 3 darks years of my life. From when I was 23 until I was 25. When I was 23, I got suspended from university because I partied so hard from 20-22, so many of my friendships collapsed, lost my self-esteem, entered a toxic relationship and all my goals and aspirations evaporated as I fully devoted myself to blurring it all my misery with alcohol. For the next two years, up until I finally finished my bachelors degree, broke up with my ex and regained some sense of who I was again, every weekend I would get drunk at home then go downtown and provoke or instigate fights. I'm fortunate that I escaped from all the confrontations I got into unscathed. But it did end up really bad once, ironically it was the one time that I was NOT drunk yet decided to pick an altercation.
Truly a dreadful position to be in life. Terrible way to spend my early 20s. I'm 26 now and having to clean up the disaster I have made in my wake until now.
