I believe that chitty chitty bang bang might be a james bond prequel, so James bond and chitty chitty bang bang were written by Ian Fleming, Q gives bond his first car with built in gadgets in Goldfinger set in 1964 when Q is about 50, which would make q born in the 1910s that could mean that Q is either Jeremy Potts grown up OR Caractacus Potts & Truly Scrumptious's child
Lionel Jeffries was so perfect in this role. He's the proverbial British Gentleman, no pretense, not assuming, but always the Gentleman, no matter the situation, no matter the hardship.
I’m so glad my parents introduced this to my sisters and I, long after their own childhoods. This movie was *that* memorable, here I am long after I first saw it.
I do identify with it, too. Even more so when I was ill with the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and couldn't travel at all. Actually I've almost been living the dream on occasions.
Little known fact that Lionel nearly died during the filming of this scene when there was a technical fault and the outhouse was completely submerged in water. This created a fear of water that he would have for the rest of his life. A few years later, he would nearly drown AGAIN when filming a scene for a comedy. The sketch included them crashing a car into a pond, however they misjudged how deep it was and the car completely sunk and Lionel was only able to escape by the skin of his teeth for the second time.
@silvercat18 That he did. I would say the main difference here is the actor who played the child catcher, Robert Helpmann, was an accomplished stuntman, as well as a professional ballet dancer. According to Dick Van Dyke he recognized it was tipping and simply walked off the carriage as it was rolling like he was in an action film.
Captian Lionel Jeffries (a WWII war soldier and awarded the Burma Star) in this role is one of my most enjoyed portrayals of a fictional character. Delightfully eccentric. That's what I aspire to in my senior years. Now upon me.
LMAO!! Lionel Jeffries, who plays Grandpa Potts, delivers the song with such pomp and flair that it’s hard not to laugh at his exaggerated sense of importance, despite being hilariously unaware of his predicament.
My husband kept saying remembers this from his childhood and also remembered because he calling the uniform is from the Boer Wars which my husband had to explain to me. I love Chitty Chitty Bang bang
this is definitely in the top 10 movies of all time, there is so much going on but it all connects and the music adds so much to each scene, you don't get that today.
Dick Van Dyke born December 13, 1925. Jeffries born June 10, 1926. Jeffries was about 6 months younger. Does anyone even try to verify information before they post?
@@morganbailey3231 I'm not going to bother looking for this interview because it doesn't matter. If Van Dyke said Jeffries was 39 during filming, he was wrong. I'll trust IMDb, Wikipedia, and Jeffries' own obituary in _The Guardian_ before what Van Dyke said off the top of his head about another man's age in an interview. Anyway Jeffries was a WWII veteran of the Burma campaign. If he were 39 in 1968, he would have been 16 in 1945.
I first saw this 57 years ago and I got a storybook with a 45 record of it and a die-cast model of Chitty Chitty bang bang with fold out plastic wings. I sure wish I had that stuff back !!!
God is been so long since i saw this movie last. I'm 34 now and barely remember watching this at 10 or younger (time has kinda mashed my life together to the point where it's hard to remember WHEN stuff happened while growing up).
59 now, watched the film from 5yrs old mostly at Christmas, still over as nostalgia😥😥 from those years but also as now sheer talent of musical writing and performance..seriously they can not write this quality any more that brings so many a warm glow our child hood..sheer brilliance and a long forgotten art!😥😥..thank you for the memories of true childhood❤ ❤
Omg this was considered a failure when I t opened? This is one of disney classic and still my favorite- if I was given chitty I would drive it with pride!
Would anyone know where I can find the precise recording of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" played at the end of this video, after the Posh song ends? Thank you :)
He was well aware of the situation. When his hut was first picked up by the airship, he was calling for help to his son and grandchildren. His musical number was just his way of "keeping a stiff upper lip", as the saying goes.
It will never not be the most surreal thing to me knowing that this film came from the writer and producer of James Bond
It surprises us 😳
It's like the team behind James Bond doing a Disney adaptation of a Roald Dahl book.
It’s pretty obvious 😂😂 the stereotypes, comedy, ridiculous contraptions, just like the bond films of the 70’s
@@JustPippaNY Well, Roald Dahl wrote the film script

Let's get on the number one chart's 🤣

Yeah and not to mention that he has a very beautiful singing voice
Forest Hill South London boy...)
"Fetch us a cuppa tea;"
Not so perfect. Nowhere near old enough for the role in reality. He was actually younger than Dick Van Dyke.
I’m so glad my parents introduced this to my sisters and I, long after their own childhoods. This movie was *that* memorable, here I am long after I first saw it.
Whenever I am traveling on a crappy bus or whatever, I think of this song

I got an intercity coach recently and this was me the entire journey.
😅me too

Yaaay, now I'm gonna think of it now
Woke up with this song playing in my head, don't know why 😂

Yikes.
Doomed to make deadly comedy
Dangerous film, as i recall the child catcher had a similar close call when his carriage flipped over.

😂 thats such a cool anecdote. @joshuaking3731
This song and The Roses of Success are 2 of my all-time favorites.
Has to be one of the best movie musical numbers ever. With the Sherman brothers writing the songs you couldn't go wrong.

- I don't swim!
- Then start drowning!
🤣
I hope those two spies have a nice trip back to vulgaria.

You've got to admire the man's postive outlook on life.
I love how even though he’s being kidnapped, he still has the courtesy to let them know that someone fell overboard.
My husband kept saying remembers this from his childhood and also remembered because he calling the uniform is from the Boer Wars which my husband had to explain to me.
I love Chitty Chitty Bang bang
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is my #1 fav movie of ALL TIME
its my favourite too

I sent this to my English friend and he said he loved it lol.
then i was little in the late 70s this was my favorite scene in this movie. Capital " P.O.S.H " POSH !!!!!!!!!!!!
This song popped in my head. Had to watch the scene. Core childhood memories
2:08 YOU JUST DROPPED SOMEONE! 😂
Lionel Jeffries being a year younger than Dick Van Dyke will never cease to amaze me. What an actor
Lionel was 39 whereas Dick was 43, and Lionel played his dad in the film.

You can buy the car again from corgi in the uk along with lots of 1960s stuff.
"start swimming!!" "i can't!!" "then start drowning" smart

I’ve watched this at least once every year for as long as I can remember and always watch it at Christmas. I’m 35 next month!
Why is this song stuck in my head all the time lol
The best song off the scariest kid catcher movie 👍😁👍
I'm here because it's the anniversary of Lionel Jeffries' birth. 💐
R.I.P. Lionel Jeffries
Only the British would think up a scene like this
2:08 You just dropped someone!
I loved his euphemisms when he went to use the outhouse

Just got back from seeing the stage show of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - love it even more now.
Omg this was considered a failure when I t opened? This is one of disney classic and still my favorite- if I was given chitty I would drive it with pride!
Disney? This film is by United Artists! Very much NOT Disney!
Ever since I was very little and first saw this movie with my family I always thought the grandfather was a great character.
Damn this really brings back memories of childhood
Wonderful actor wonderful cast loved the movie 😊
I love this song and have done for a long time.
When I win the lottery I won't announce it but there will be signs:
Gert Frobe 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙌🙌🙌🙌
Goldfinger! 😂😂😂
One of my favourite musical numbers in the movie. For some reason, it kind of reminds me a little bit of G&S; don't know why...
Just showed this too my nefu, he told me that he didn't think old man films could be funny. I'm literally 17
That's fun, he is named Posh in the OV and Potts in French x)
2:45 Music theme
This movie will always be a childhood favorite of mine.
I recently went on a cruise for the first time, and frequently found myself singing this song!
If they ever remake this movie the actor for sikowitz for victorious needs to play him
I think this is the BEST song in the film
What an incredible attitude he has about being kidnapped. Good for him.
Was just thinking about this the other day and now it shows up in my recommended, spooky~
Am i the only one who wants to live in that tiny house while flying across the globe? (Maybe a little room for a bed though)
Absolutely not.
It's a toilet!
First. I love this scene and song when I was a kid
Secondly. WHY what is this recommended?
Same here, but its better then the usual drivel that gets reccomended.
YOU JUST DROPPED SOMEONE 😂
He's just accepted being kidnapped.
Port Out Starboard Home P.O.S.H.
Son of a gun it's Van Pelt from Jumanji!
This is so gangster
I’ve just noticed the hanging basket!
My most favorite song besides the candy and turn key songs
Fetch us a cuppa tea
I love how they throw out the skinny man BEFORE throwing out the fatter man to gain more altitude.
One of the villains is Richard Marner , later to play a German officer in ‘ Allo ‘ Allo
Would anyone know where I can find the precise recording of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" played at the end of this video, after the Posh song ends? Thank you :)
Im 56 yrs old still singing this song .... Thats a nice pile of junk , you got there ,my boy!
Most people get scared when they get kidnapped, and rightfully so. Then you have this guy!!
hey thanks
I always felt scared for the 2 men at sea
Lionel Jeffries told me in 1992 he still had scars on his lungs from the Pneumonia he caught filming this scene.
2:00 and 2:09
Aunt Ivy and Nermal being thrown into the ocean be like
This guy reminds me of my uncle
My only question i had while watching this as a kid is what did the grandpa so in such a small shack?
He “had tea with the Maharaja”. It was an outhouse that he would read periodicals in
Fetch us a cup of tea ☕️!!!!!!!!!!
The actor reminds me to captain spaulding
I took a cruise with my wife once 😌
See the footage... Didn't hear the song
I wonder why Grandpa Potts didn’t just swim back to shore.
我看那么久了还没看明白😂😂
Sir, you appear to have lost one of your henchman.
Chitty chitty bang bang was written by Ian Fleming?
What sort of drugs was he on when he came up with this and how can I get some?
Ah classic British uniform

Why was this in my recommended..
Because you're living life right....
Isn't he supposed to be in danger?
Lionel was actually several months YOUNGER than Dick Van Dyke.
ok i am the guy you safe my bad
My favourite Gilbert and Sullivan song not by Gilbert and Sullivan
Hehehehe funny
If there was ever a remake why do I see Steve Martin playing the Grand Father 😅😅😅😅
