Extraordinary performance. This piece is far more diffucult with a cello than it is (already a lot) with a violin. Instead of moving the piece in G and keep the same fingering, you kept the original D tonality which means a complete new fingering work. And the beauty is absolutely present. Thank you. Respect !
Certainly close to the best possible on a cello, and up there with some of the best violinists. I have practiced and played this piece many times on the cello, the flow of the rhythm is especially difficult to keep and you do an unbelievable job at it. And the structure of the voices, executed through beautiful sound control, very impressive. Of course we would all make different choices here and there,we all want some different especially in Bach which is very personal, but I have to say your impeccably executed style does this page from heaven absolute justice. Thank you.
This is a beautiful, natural and moving performance. It's so natural that it's easy to believe that this piece was originally written for Cello. Sydney Lee is already a master cellist at such a young age.
Once I wrote to an organ version of the Chaconne: The organ puts this music in heaven. The guitar shows the flow. You can sing with the cello or discover its universality on the koto. Busonis piano transcription unveals the drama. But the painful cry and the sorrow of the young widower is still in the violin. I have to correct myself. Your cello joins the violin! Bach would be proud of you!
Outstanding!!! I tend to think of myself as a connoisseur of the Chaconne. I am also a cellist, and have heard many interpretations, and I have to say, this is absolutely amazing. Sydney, you deserver great credit, not simply for the performance, but the interpretation and ornamentation. Simply put: BRAVO!
OMG THANK YOU SYDNEY LEE! You overcame ALL the hurdles and have NAILED it to a perfect video. As a former virtuoso on the double bass, I would guess that's not such a good recital piece that leaves your left hand in shape to play the Brahms 2nd sonata. Don't BREAK it, bc it's SPECIAL! Congratulations.
Masterful! Sydney Lee is the Yuja Wang of the Cello. And that is the highest possible compliment I can come up with. Sydney, your amazing Chaconne also made me think of pianist, Hélène Grimaud’s unsurpassed piano performance. Like Yuja, you play without unnecessary theatrics… so enjoyable to watch the purity of your cello playing!!
Sidney is most definitely an artist of the highest caliber. A wonderful musician . I never heard this on the cello and frankly did not thought it was possible. Bravo. I’m amazed at the talent from china and South Korea on all the instruments.
I think I have been back here about 20 times to watch this again, amazed every time I watch it... blows my mind how such a hard piece can be played so perfectly... 🤯😊
Does the reverberation come from the instrument or from the room? I think it’s the room, which means the instrument used lacks resonance… Nevertheless it’s played superb!
@@trabouliste1037 Hall reverb. go listen to the old Julian Bream recordings, they used to record in small Scottish chapels because of the great reverb but couldn't do it after the seventies because of planes flying above.
I honestly prefer this rendition to one played on the viola by an absolute master of the instrument. This player and this instrument are just fantastic.
So so so so good! OMG! I have only being playing Cello for about 17 months and I watch this and it feels like it is magic to hear, how is it possible to get this amazing! almost seems impossible when I think of where I am at... I can dream, in the mean time I will just enjoy performances like this and watch in complete awe of the mastery of your instrument Sydney :-D well done beautiful video and sound recording as well...
Oh! Yeah, so beautiful Japanese Passacaglia. I would feel that it might be a little bit difficult rhythm for Asian people. Might be accentuation of passacaglia. where it is? The length of second note is sooooo mysterious. (92yrs.Japanese)
Beautiful, passionate playing! You obviously love this music - it really comes across. I love your insight into the form and architecture of the piece. Occasionally, it would be nice to structure each variation more completely, and then treat it as a component of the whole piece. By that, I mean that each variation should be able to stand alone and feel like a complete piece of music. You are producing a lot of differentiation, but: Be careful - at times it feels as if you are still looking at the instructions or blueprint while building the edifice! Your performance should come out from your innermost heart and soul, and feel completely organic and self-evident. Also, remember to stay within the stylistic framework. Sometimes you make it sound a bit too much like a romantic virtuoso Caprice... So much lovely music-making! I hope Bach's music will continue to grow and settle in you as a person and a wonderful musician.
Why such an instrument? Today everybody plays this piece by Bach. But what a difference to Heifetz, Perlman and Nilstein, real masters who bring the tragic sides of The Chaconne to our hearts. Here I keep silent. Perhaps in 40 years she realizes the true emotions which Bach expressed in this music.
Wow. I am a cellist and didn't think chaconne could be so elegantly adapted. Your tone is so elegant and effortless!
Extraordinary performance. This piece is far more diffucult with a cello than it is (already a lot) with a violin. Instead of moving the piece in G and keep the same fingering, you kept the original D tonality which means a complete new fingering work. And the beauty is absolutely present. Thank you. Respect !
It’s not like you learn to play it on the violin, know violin fingering then come to the cello and “relearn”.
Still an amazing performance
This Chaconne is LIFE-mourned in 15 minutes. Always tears me up
So true!!

This is a masterful performance of this great music. Loved it! 🎶😎🎵
Beautiful and so musical. It was pleasure working with you last summer in New Hampshire
❣️Relief for my migraine comes in the form of Bach's partita for solo violin played on a cello 🙌 Bravo❣️
Sensational, beautiful interpretation, congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is a beautiful, natural and moving performance. It's so natural that it's easy to believe that this piece was originally written for Cello. Sydney Lee is already a master cellist at such a young age.
Wow, don't know that I've ever heard a cello sound more beautiful. I am a cellist too.

Sounds great! Congratulations!
Best cello rendition I’ve heard by far- excellent performance

Absolutamente soberbio! Enhorabuena
Magnificent, I am in awe 😃
Amazing performance ❤
I think I have been back here about 20 times to watch this again, amazed every time I watch it... blows my mind how such a hard piece can be played so perfectly... 🤯😊
Stunned! BRAVA!
great playing and reverb

Danke schön !
Perfect. 👏👏👏
Unbelievable. Bach is the greatest
BRAVO por esta niña, FELICITACIONES!
Simply divine!

Wow!
Where can I get the sheet music for this?
Imslp
Probably on the internet.
I think it is the violin version transposed

Soli Deo Gloria J.S. Bach
Never tried the loud organ.😂

Better than the overrated Yo-Yo Ma, in my opinion.
Wrong piece for the wrong instrument
Beautiful
