I wish Bach could hear Petra play this.
He can.
He does ❤️
Mrs. Poláčková, I am absolutely blown away by your performance here. I am 62 at this moment of writing, and have played classical guiter since childhood, and always loved to listen to it. I had never heard of you, until UA-cam placed you on top of a suggested play list. You instantly soared to the very top of my personal list of favorite performers and performances. Thank you so much 🙏. All of God's Peace and Blessing.
This is one of the MOST MOVING and SUBLIME performances I have ever heard on any instrument.
PETRA POLACKOVA sends me to a place from where I do not want to return! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Nirvana...
Magnificent. This is Bach's tribute to his first wife who had died and was already buried on his return from Carlsbad.
As a retired amateur classical guitarist, I have heard lots of performances mostly on UA-cam and on record and this piece, in my opinion, is the one that separates the great guitarists, and so when I began to listen, I sat back with a critical ear ready to judge the level of proficiency of this guitarist. I was waiting to judge any flaw either in musicality or technique and I can say that I was in tears by the end of this performance. The addition of the lower strings was a pleasant surprise which made it even better than a standard 6 string guitar.
currently there is no better recording of the guitar-version out there. Petra plays so exquisite and tastefull. Surely the bass-strings and the church also contribute to the great sound, but her interpretation is definetely outstanding.
Incredible performance. I felt the music in my soul and I'm in tears. Now I'll watch it again.
My dearest, dearest Petra... long overdue...i bow to your exquisite capability and understanding of this gorgeous masterpiece. As a fellow Bach enthusiast i know this is a violin piece, but clearly the great composer anticipated an interpretation as yours being a possibility in the future, which he obviously regarded as being one of growth and also of the heritage of that which is grand! Thank you ever so much, you gorgeous human being!!!
You can hear absolutely everything, with all the finesse - and even all the grace - required. It's unsurpassed - what a sublime performance!
Well, lovely Petra,
Your mastery is un questionable.
Your emotive and thematic qualities are dazzling. Your performance is a testimony to how qualities of truth, beauty, beauty and meaning, blend together in Pappa Bach's writing, and again leaving our world a better place.
Bravo, my dear, Bravo.
Ronnie Rugato
I can't imagine how this could be played any better. An absolute pleasure to hear and witness such skill. Thank you .
It is an amazing performance without any doubt. I like it very much. But I also like this one: ua-cam.com/video/JNEnzNHTkd8/v-deo.html
14 minutes of sheer heaven.
Nothing else to add. The best interpretation ever🎼🎼🎼🎼👍👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent!
Dare I say: the best Chaconne performance available out there? I think so. The tone is just amazing - her plucking, guitar itself and the recording - magnificent.
Bach+Petra+Drew=PERFECTION ! ❤️❤️❤️
Now i am listening to the music of an incomparable composer, Bach, played by an excellent artist Petra Polackova. It was really something fabulous. Thanks for uploading.
There’s something about her playing that’s extremely captivating
Seen and heard many interpretations, but this is one of the best. Very well played, absolute master level. Technically perfect, with a great sense of the nature of the music.
I'm in awe watching this. She broke my spirit, I surrender, I'm weeping in side, my heart breaks.
Your interpretation of this piece is incredible. I've been playing classical guitar since the mid-70s and this has for a long time been one of my favorites. There is is something very special about this piece and you succeed brilliantly in bringing it out. I read that Bach wrote this after returning from a trip to find his wife dead from a sudden illness and already buried. I find that profound grief and tenderness and love for his wife in this piece. Every time I hear it it moves me to tears, and no other piece in the all of the classical guitar music I've heard and played has that effect on me. You make the guitar come alive. It's as if the strings themselves are weeping.
One of the best version I have ever heard. I wish I could attend Petra's concert(s)...
Absolutely beautiful. The sound of this guitar is awesome. The interpretation is stunning. It's the best version I have heard of this masterpiece so far.
This has to be the best interpretation of this piece I have ever heard.
The recording and instrument is amazing.
She breathes so much expression and life into what I consider to be the pinnacle piece of classical guitar.
I am 56 and still am driven to accomplish to one day to play this piece.
I applaud everything that you must have went through to attain the mastery of this.
couldn't agree more. the expressiveness and articulation is perfect. i must have heard ~100 interpretations of this piece and hers ranks right up there with segovia. i also like her tempo a lot. i think a lot of interpretations drag it out too much. this is very refreshing.
Mrs. Petra plays guitar magnificent.
🌸🌸🌸💞🕊
wow! one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, played perfectly by a beautiful, sensual woman. it doesn't get any better than this. as a violinist, i actually prefer to hear this on guitar. it retains the intimacy of a single string instrument, but with richer harmonies possible, and without all the clunky-ness of having to "break" the 3 and 4 string chords like we're forced to do on the violin. thank you for this beautiful performance.
Wow. Never heard the name, now I will remember it. Outstanding performance. Wonderfull technique. Just love the left hand movements. No shortcuts.
This is one of those great pieces that allow you to breathe the universe, and you are one of those great artists that make it possible. Thanks.
Albert! Really well said!
Absolutely agree ❤️☯️🙏
Those words are almost as beautiful as the music.
Well said!
Good words!
Beautiful emotional rendition - possibly the best interpretation of the many I have listened to.
A super, giant performance. It really touched my heart. Thanks for uploading.
Absolutely stunning! I've not before encountered a performance of this piece on guitar that's brought tears to my eyes - bravo! Before today I'd have said Hilary Hahn's solo violin was the ultimate expression of the piece... now I'm not so sure!
Superlatives don't suffice to describe this performance. Thank you for taking us to musical heaven.
best version ever - pristine baroque - what a beautiful fusion of Bach's and Petra's essence - thank you for sharing this gem!
Amen.
Absolutely wonderful! And a magnificent guitar!
I can never watch this without tears. The beauty of the music and the playing defy my descriptive abilities, but my emotions know exactly how to express themselves ❤️☯️🙏
Stunning performance by Ms. Polackova , expertly captured by guitarist Drew Henderson's video.
Wow. Just wow. I worked on the Chaconne for my graduation recital at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico almost 50 years ago, but never did fully master it. Magnífica!
THAT WAS F...... AMAZING.
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!
This performance has helped make existence worthwhile.
Ronnie Rugato
So good and well payed... can't find words to say how much I am moved!
Absolutely astonishing. Great!!!!! Bravissima!!!
Easily one of my favourite Bach pieces. A truly masterful and engaging performance.
In only a few minutes her rendition has improved my life forever
Absolutely
Such a sensitive interpretation 💕🙏 Her love for the music she plays . . . It's like she is caressing her instrument . Heck , I can't explain - english is not my native language !
But it makes me cry because it is so wonderful
Good sound. Deep and tragic. Very emotional. Good acoustic. Thank you.
Wonderful - Ty.
one of the best!
13.44 minutes of pure heaven! I can only describe Petra's performance as such. The three elements of music, JS Bach's score, Ms Petra's playing, her nine string guitar, seamlessly bond together to produce a sound so memorable & special.
What's there to say? Breath Taking? Stunning? One of the truly great performances of this piece? All of the above?
ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME! CONGRATULATIONS, PETRA! WONDERFUL!
Magnifique !
Just heard this now in December 2021. I can't add anything to the many, many comments already here. I am not new to this collection. I can only say I was captivated throughout...such a gift to us!
Flawless. Moving. Measured. Heartfelt.
Rivals Segovia’s Chaconne, which I’d thought insurmountable in my opinion, even by John Williams or Julian Bream. Until now. Words cannot capture the perfection, magnificence and depth of this performance.
Brava, Petra!!!
Wow. Wow. Wow…
Absolutely agree
It surpasses, not rivals.
I'm just speechless - the most beautiful Chaconne for my ears... thank you so much!
Just beautiful.
One of the pieces that gives me consolation , so deep, and as long as young artists perform this masterpiece and share it with the world, there will be hope for humanity. Thanks Bach, thanks Polackova.
Amazing !!! Sublime performance !!!
This has become my all-time favourite musical performance. Astounding, emotional, perfect.
Is this the best performance of the best piece of music ever written?
_I've listened to this 100s of times and never heard it like this!_ 😁
So sensitive, tone, balance in the voicing, fluidity. Bravo and Bravo!
lost my breath watching it . Incredible !! thank you
What a fantastic arrangement/playing, sound!
She's frickin' great.
Wow, truly amazing interpretation. The sound is so beautiful and clear and rich. Thank you for sharing this jewel!
BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! I've seen many versions of this online now and yours is simply one of the very best performances. You understand. The grace, subtleness, the feeling, dexterity, modulation, poise, dynamics just excellence! I'm sure Bach would have been proud!
This is the finest, most nuanced, sensitive rendition of the Chaconne I have ever heard (and I've heard dozens).
Bravo! Those bass resonances - wow. I want one of those guitars now 😁🖖🏼❤️🇦🇺
The sound quality of this video is really excellent and thereby enables me to fully appreciate the majesty of Bach's composition and the beautiful performance by this young woman who exudes grace and poise throughout
As an American and a Texan, and lover of classical guitar, there are “no words” to express my appreciation for such a beautiful performance of the Chaconne to soothe our minds and souls as we endure the abject insanity of this time. Thanks, and all the best to you and yours.
💖 I play this piece very often, and I love what this recording taught me. You seem to feel every note.
Superb!
Thank you Petra, just wonderful. Bravissima🌹
Brava! I must say that is an extraordinary performance, and quite an impressive sounding guitar (in her hands anyways) as well. Thank you!
Simply Bravo.
WOW. It’s all about the sound and what a sound you have.
Beautiful, thank you ❤
Gorgeous (harp)guitar too 😍
Breathtaking rendition of a breathtakingly complex J.S.Bach composition.
An extraordinary performance and excellent sound recording quality that showcases the unbelievable talent of the artist. Every note has the right balance and texture. I was in tears within minutes. Bravo and thank you !
Great interpretation of the Chaconne. This one and the one by Moran Wasser in his 11 string guitar are now my favorites. I wish the description of the instrument was included. I saw Petra in Cleveland, in the summer of 2019, her playing was delightful.
simply beautiful
Beautiful. I'm in tears. Very compelling visually, as well.
Beautiful performance!!!
Have never heard anything like that before, incredible
Well, this handily supplants my previous favorite version by Narciso Yepes. I doubt it could be played any more perfectly. And I'm so glad the recording itself is up to the quality of the playing and the sonics of this instrument.
Deeply impressed! Guess violin players can study a lot of insights. Thanks.
At last! This is the first version of this piece on youtube that hasn't left a feeling of "pointless virtuosity" in me. In Petra's performance every chord, every scale run, every phrase, every change in tempo and texture marvellously gets its proper meaning. Her performance is by far the most intelligent I've seen, and it's a different class above all the others. Most of all, her effective phrasing is telling about a deep understanding of the intentions of the composer, and makes the meaning of this "tour de force" piece accessible to the everyday listener.
Apart from that, the beautiful, serious tone of this extraordinary instrument perfectly complements the music experience. I've never heard a guitar with so many wonderful colours in its tone.
Thanks to Drew Henderson for this superb quality recording! His Bach performances are also fantastic.
Absolutely astounding performance, and great instrument too. Bravo!!
Interprétation absolument remarquable.... !!
God that was absolutely magnificent, beautiful!. What a lovely guitarist. Many thanks. Gérard lacey in Ireland. X
Wonderful!
Bravo Petra, my favorite composition you played just perfectly!
Extraordinaria interpretacion
BRAVO !!!
Finger dexterity is to stand in awe and the mood tones… what an embodiment displayed across the frets. ❤
Bach loves this and so do I!!!
Many years ago after the loss of dearly loved one, the only music I could listen to was Segovia's Chaconne. Petra Polackova's performance brings tears and deeply felt emotion even after these many years,
WHAT A BEAUTIFULLY PLAYING
Fantastic! What a beautiful and moving rendition. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
BRAVISSIMO!
