My 2009 cube SL went almost 197K miles with no CVT issues whatsoever before I sold it 2 years ago. CVTs are great when maintained well (CVT fluid changes every 30K-40K miles). I have 5 friends who bought the 1st generation Kicks, both pre-revised and revised. None of them have any issues. Nil. None. Zero. All good. Great entry level cars!

Nissan CVT have problem from 2009 to 2021, this is well known.. They can still do data and there will be more of those cars on the road than any CVT. We all know about Jatco transmissons
I bought a new 2012 Nissan Versa. I brought it to the dealership at 30k miles to have its first CVT fluid change. The dealership inspected the fluid, said it was still clean, and to come back at 50k miles for the first fluid change. At 38k miles the CVT started slipping.
I wish vehicles would go back to analog real gauges. There's just something authentic about real gauges. Kind of like a real clock with actual hands. More timeless and better craftsmanship.
The new Kicks looks great, and the reviewer did a really nice job. It's amazing that $22K is considered cheap these days. I'd rather buy a used vehicle for far less money.
22k is extremely cheap the average car cost 47k now literally less than half of what the average new car sells for keep buying your used cars if you no one cares
I love its looks. I've had 2 Sentras and a Juke that I loved. Not a problem with any of them or the CVTs. Now have an HRV I like very much, but this is tempting.
I had a 2024 as a rental. It drove nice and had a lot of upscale features, but was very underpowered IMO. Enough to make merging onto a busy freeway a full-throttle event that required some planning, and it definitely sounded unhappy when asked to move in a hurry. I'm glad the 2025 version adds a bit more oomph, but I would say the power plant is still pretty anemic for the size of vehicle it has to move. Give it another 50 HP (at least) and I might consider it. And it would be a lot more fun to drive without exceeding what the chassis can handle.

This new Kicks really looks ready to kick teeth hard. Now the question is this. Will Nissan consider bringing back the Qashqai to North America but under a completely new name rather than Rogue Sport? Most B-segment SUVs in the US nowadays appear to be sidelined in favor of the New C-segment SUVs which appear to undercut the High (or Old) C-segment SUVs which the Rogue/X-Trail is part of.

I have a friend over here with that same generation escort and he’s got 300,000 miles on it but he’s taking very good care of it kept the timing belt replaced. I do agree, however on the Nissan 2 liter, it is a good motor.
The old SR20DE in the 92 SE-R Sentra made 140hp but far wimpier torque levels despite more peaky rev ranges (benefit to variable cam phasing). Plus the Kicks puts out way less pollutants, and gets better mpg despite being a raised box on wheels 700 lbs heavier.
It's sad to see this cars features, such as LED taillights, and an actual color inside, and AWD, for $24k. It's sad that you don't get these features on $50k + American trucks; although, this isn't a truck, it's a valid comparison. Good job Nissan. The 2L engines output is a bit low, and is it still a dreaded CVT.
Agreed. We are in 2024 now I mean most cars should have LED headlights now for safety. Once you have LEDs you cannot go back to Halogens. Ok I could maybe understand if a base model of a vehicle does not have LEDs but take the Kia Seltos for example only the top trim SX has LEDs where as the base LX, mid trims S and EX and Upper trim X-Line all have Halogen headlights??? Only the top trim SX gets the LEDs why? Its too sharp of an SUV for that. Especially when they give you the sharp looking LED DRL strips and then the dingy yellow Halogen headlights together really look bad. I will say maybe they are starting to fix this as the new Kia K4 which is super sharp and great price has standard LED headlights on all trims but on higher trims you get more advanced LEDs and that makes sense. I actually prefer Reflector LEDs vs Projector LEDs for their wider more dispersed light as the super sharp cut off line on Projector LEDs drives me nuts. Sure the light is more focused on Projector ones but I like the Reflector ones better. However it does seem in a lot of brands the Projector LEDs rate much higher on IIHS. I really really like the Reflector LEDs on my 2023 Nissan Kickstarters SR Premium as they have great light output and long distance on low and high beam.

Our next vehicle WILL have LED's, though.

I drove a Kicks on an 8 hour drive (each way) a couple years ago. It was perhaps the worst car I had ever driven. Middling fuel economy with a tiny gas tank made a bad combination. At least the frequent stops allowed me to clean the bug magnet windshield. It also drove horribly and lacked power. Upgrades were sorely needed.
Brilliant car in terms of design, inside and out, and also in terms of value for money. The big elephant in the room, however, is the CVT which has been the bane of every Nissan equipped with it and is reason enough for me to stay far away from this otherwise well turned-out subcompact SUV, unfortunately.
A...'sneaker'? Totally do not get that, what I missing, selling shoes or a car? I own 2012 Juke bought new. Haven't yet seen a SUV, including 2025 Kicks ( drop a damn turbo in it!), that I would trade my Juke in for. It's solid, well appointed, has spirit when you mash the accelerator, reasonable gas mileage. Honestly do not get the 'hate on' for the CVT. Noise, whine? Not really, more noise from the Michelins. Going up a steep hill? CVT doesn't 'hunt' for the right gear just smooth steady acceleration. On ramp to highway? Normal mode more then adequate, Sport mode turbo on, way more fun. Yes many SUV's likely faster, but a whole 2 or 3 seconds faster well on the track maybe, real world if 2 seconds is going to make a difference you're cutting it way to close. Looks? Well it is quirky but also doesn't look like a box on wheels as most SUV's. Value for the money? Oil changes, ignition interlock switch, new tyres. Most used vehicles are going for a lot more than pre 2019 but there doesn't seem to be a problem selling a used Juke.

The only way to survive the automotive shakeout is to have a reputation for reliability, especially in light of the EV onslaught. As more car makers duke it out, the most reliable brands will survive. Crappy brands are the first to get axed.

My good gracious that front end is well…. Exactly what I’d expect from modern Nissan. Very unattractive, way too tall, with the beveled edge of my kitchen counter top passing for styling of the front. I still can’t fathom why anyone buys Nissans anymore.

The fuel alone is $7000 to 10000 a year, that is why there is massive shift to smaller truck. Truck are expensive to own, and when they break down, they are even more expensive to repair. Slower than the Mazda CX30 but it should do better than the HRV, the Venue and the Mitsubishi outlander sport
The biggest shame is the 140HP. I had 143HP in my 2.0L 2000 Ford Escort. I was hoping for at least a nice 160-180.

I will stay away from Nissans with a CVT. I still love my 06 Infiniti FX 35.

These sub class it not worth the cost, pay the difference and Get the Toyota Rav4 and HOnda CRV which will be more capable, or anything in this class like Chevy Equinox or other models. Sub brand is not the same
@bjsimon802 a very HARD NO to both Honda and Toyota with their declining quality and reliability trends the past few years.

im not spending 40k on a midsize suv like a rav4 or crv. I'd rather spend 13k more and get an f350 brand new
@@slumy8195 owning a truck is nice, i have driven many truck, and loved them. But they are expensive to own and operate. The fuel alone is $7000 to 10000 a year, that is why there is massive shift to smaller truck. Truck are expensive to own, and when they break down, they are even more expensive to repair. Also insurance and parts are not cheap anymore, truck prices doubled worldwide. I would love tacoma, or f150, even Silverado
