Their recent 40 Years at War re-recording is really good. Awesome cover with their 2 mascots fighting each other. They didn’t go for the “hits” and went with more unexpected song choices. However, I’m glad the chose to re-record Better Off Dead (title track) since that song absolutely rules. Thanks for doing this, guys! BTW, I stumbled across Ralph’s name on Encyclopedia Metallium when going through Incantation albums. I said, “Hey, I know that guy! He’s awesome!”
I listened to each of their albums for the first time a couple of years ago. I know that my favorites are Persecution Mania and Agent Orange. Oh, and Ryan, the mascot's name is Knarrenheinz.
That's an easy ranking for me: 1. Persecution Mania (anything else would be borderline crazy!!!) 2. Agent Orange (a close second) 3. Tapping The Vain (the last really great album for a long time) 4. M-16 (what a way to bring their music into the new millennium) 5. Code Red (a return to form after some real lackluster performances) 6. Obsessed By Cruelty (my first ever Sodom album, therefore holds a special place in my heart) 7. Better Off Dead (the saw is the law!) 8. Decision Day (even after 35 years in the business they are still going strong) 9. Geneses XIX (the return of the lost son, Blackfire is back) 10. Sodom (not a lot to say about the rest of the albums. they kinda lack personality) 11. In War And Pieces 12. 'Til Death Do Us Unite 13. Epitome Of Torture 14. Get What You Deserve 15. Masquerade In Blood 16. The FInal Sign Of Evil (by far Sodom's worst output)
Great video as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Tankard’s discography one day. All of their albums hover between a 6-8/10 for me, so it would probably be a nightmare to rank! 1. M-16 2. About time taking on Sodom! Crazy good discography, with B.O.D. as my favourite, which was the time I got into them. But could someone treat the count Ralfus to a microphone, a camera and maybe throw in an internet connection as well, so he doesn't have to record himself on a Nokia 3310?
Well like you guys said they dont have a bad album, ranking them all would be impossible so here is my top 6 in order from 1-6. Tapping the Vein Agent Orange Persecution Mania M-16 Get What You Deserve Epitome of Torture
Very cool ranking gents, thank you. PS I see "Seltic" Frost gets a mention 😏. Come on, how hard is it to look up how Tom G Warrior says it, or how the people of the Celtic culture say it in UK/Ireland.
@@countralfus6408 War and Pain is actually closer to punk or hardcore .RROOAARRRR is a pure hardcore /punk album. And the third album is a typical Voivod style progressive metal. Compare their first three albums to the first three albums by Anthrax,Slayer,Testament,Overkill or Metallica. Thrash metal has a specific song structure which you will not find in anything Voivod ever recorded.
Tapping is my #1, totally crushing death/thrash, the antithesis of the Black Album, The Ritual and so forth. Also love the 2 ones everybody else hates: Get What You Deserve is so punkish and fun - Masquerade In Blood is doomier and darker, both featuring Atomic Steif's outstanding drumming. Contrarian opinion on the highly-regarded 00s stuff, I find Bernemann and Bobby to be very generic players, and the war themes become tiring. Blackfire made a welcome return to the band on the latest album.
I've been wondering why Sodom has the worst setlists ever and now I'm understanding. People seem to like all their worst stuff :P Also, for most old albums you had to be there to like it. I came aboard from Agent Orange onwards and the previous albums don't appeal to me at all. Albums like Sodom, Genesis XIX, M-16, Better off Dead and Epitomb of Torture are the best ones for me.
Totally agree with Pete on Get What You Deserve! It’s not terrible but yeah the crossover thing doesn’t do much for me. That 84-92 era is the best after that it was never quite as good. M-16 was also a pretty boring album imo. I need to hear more of these more recent albums though. I’ve only heard parts of them.
Love SoT, some guests could use some decent cam/mic equipment though. Ralphs video and sound are absolutely terrible, like a 10 year old smartphone. 50 bucks gets you some decent stuff. Volume level is also all over the place due to this
I actually ordered a $50 mic immediately after watching the episode this morning, I tried using a laptop once and I kept freezing up , I use a crappy android phone and will upgrade as soon as I can, $ is tight right now but hopefully the new mic will help, I was very disappointed on how this episode turned out for me.
Ralf putting Better Off Dead as the last one is disgraceful. You don't get Sodom. Sorry to say that. Pete are you sure you've heard Better Off Dead? This album is 50 minutes long so it means it's longer than any that came out before. Two cover tunes, but still 10 original songs. Capture the Flag is 6 minutes long.
I still said it was a great album, but to me after Persecution and Agent Orange, I felt it was a step down, I was getting into more extreme metal at the time so I felt disappointed at the time, but they are one of my all time favorite bands and one has to be last, and for me it was Better off Dead.
@@countralfus6408 but really the last one? Even that overcompressed Epitome of S**t is higher. Seriously? You prefer Til Death Do Us Unite or Masquerade in Blood rather than the classic thrash sound? For us Sodom after Tappin the Vein was done. I even didn't like that one. Get What You Deserve is even better.
@@countralfus6408 Frank Blackfire had nothing to say on those two classic albums. Why do you think he left the band? He said he practiced his arse off while the other two guys were drinking beer and doing nothing. What do you like about his playing on those albums? Wanna hear Blackfire doing great job? Listen to Extreme Aggression or Coma of Souls. It's more complex and precise thrash. Want brutality? Frank is not for that. Actually when he left Sodom they hired Mekong Delta guitarist for the tour. He was also a killer axeman. But Sodom didn't need virtuosos.
