The more I watch this show, the more I realize Katara is one of the characters who's the most in pain. She saw her mother's corpse as a child (unconfirmed but highly implied), then basically grew up too quickly without getting the chance to handle her grief, leaving it delayed and bottled up, and developed survivor's guilt and blames herself for not being able to prevent her death. All while she's only 14. This is why I cannot stand comments that make fun of her grief and meme the hell out of it. This is a traumatized child in grief and in clear need of a hug and therapy; the lack of sympathy coming from some people in the fandom is genuinely upsetting.
