So long as u update regularly to the lastest update and read the notes, on what to do BEFORE/AFTER the update. It is all good. But nonetheless always follow the 3-2-1 rule for data backup

This series is incredible! I have followed all three, and every stage is working. As I am also using an unraid server, would you consider talking about a great idea for backing up immich running on unraid? I have ideas, but yours are always better! Thanks again for making these.
Fantastic Videos. Only thing i think you missed is it currently doesn't do auto-updating album for pets/people. I think there might be a tool to get around this one difference. But once i tweeked a couple settings. it was so much quicker and smoother than google photos. Great video and keep up the awesome work mate.
Hi. Thank you for a fairly complete review on Immich. I’m testing it now too. And perhaps instead of immich-go for files already on the server, it is better to use the External Library feature, which is in Immich itself. Because I noticed that when you use immich-go files are duplicated in the library folder, and when you use External Library, they are taken from a folder on the server.
Great Video and the trick with the CMD was realy cool.
2FA is not implemented directly into Immich because the devs choose to leave this to special solutions. Because personal pics are very privacy consered, it would be nice if you could create a video on how to add Authentik or Authelia to this or any other services which is accesed from outside of the network.

Have you thought about making a Quick Tips video on thumbnails?
Something I noticed when storing my photos and videos on Nextcloud was that the thumbnails would take forever to load, especially when accessing them from the phone. The main reason for this was because Nextcloud generates thumbnails on the go by default, and you have to run a console command to force it to generate previews for all photos. The other reason they were slow to load is because Nextcloud stored thumbnails in the Nextcloud share by default, which allocates data to the Unraid array (which uses hard disks). With a large photo library comes a large amount of small thumbnails that you will want optimized for fast reads and minimal latency so your library loads quickly while you browse through it. think it makes sense to allocate them to an SSD, or a pool made up of SSDs(zfs for optimal performance).
For Nextcloud, it is a matter of editing Nextcloud's Docker Template to point the thumbnail path to a share that uses SSDs.
For Immich, I notice a thumbnail directory gets created within the /photos path. Perhaps you just map that to a share using SSDs?
I have not made any tuning to Immich and it loads thumbnails really quickly compared to Nextcloud even over the network through VPN. I was really surprised.
Just before I discovered Immich I tried Nextcloud for my photo collection (years and tens of thousands of photos/videos). It felt slow and clunky most of the time and plugins/addons were a bit hit or miss but UI was generally okay.
Highly recommend to try out Immich and I will use Nextcloud for files from now on but Immich will be my place for photos/videos.

Great tutorial! Will you also do one on how to configure an Immich backup & restore in Unraid? I see the feature is not implemented, it would be interesting to know how to do it!
Different machine learning settings would be an interesting topic to get more information on. I’ve only used default one and hope they have or update one with better animal detection. The default one works barely like 10-20% of time. As I know I have thousands of pictures and videos of our dog during the years it would help a lot when trying to find those specific ones 😅
he said he has a video coming out soon on that. I ended up using the docker compose and just deleting everything in it except for the microservices and machine learning section. Once i did that I just added the device input in devices letting it know of my intern qsv and added the ip in the machine learning settings and its cranking items out!
Thanks Spaceinvader. I'd love to see a video about how to backup Immich properly. It seems a bit confusing, and perhaps requires more than the Appdata Backup plugin I currently use?

You can autocomplete in command line with tab if i remember correctly.
What is the main reason to use Immich over Nextcloud Photos? Is it worth moving all the photos I have stored in Nextcloud over into Immich?
Both are great solutions
I find Nextcloud to be very slow and if I try to upload too much at once i get lots of network errors

Lidarr (for managing), Emby, Jellyfin, Airsonic, Plex for the server side, Symfonium, Finamp, Dsub, Subsonic, Substreamer, Plexamp for the client side.
I use Navidrome and you can use various clients from your devices to access it. In my case I’ve used Substreamer on my phone. There’s plenty of options so find something you like and start experimenting with the options.
why don't my shares have an upload button? Is there a video on how to add this?

The upload using immich-go isnt working for me. I have tried the -dry-run command and it states what it will do but doing the same command as you I see the following messages
"Server status: OK
Ask for server's assets...
1 asset(s) received
Browsing google take out archive...
Associating JSON and assets...
Done.
Ready to upload files"
Then it just stays like this. Left it running overnight, and again for hours but nothing is uploaded. I have about 150GB google photo store so I expect it to take sometime but I would expect some indication of progress.
The jobs page in immich does not load so no idea as to what is going on.
Any idea?

@@ColdSystems my conclusion was it was a shared related issue. I setup another share and got it to work. However I'mich isn't ready for prime time....I took some photos last week and they don't appear in the phone timeline or on the server. Basically they are lost...ok though on Google photos.
When I try this, my cmd hangs on "Ready to upload files", and I cannot seem to do anything at all except close cmd!
After entering the command, I get:
"Server status: OK
Ask for server's assets...
'x' asset(s) received
Browsing google take out archive...
Associating JSON and assets...
Done.
Ready to upload files"
It holds on "Browsing google take out archive..." for a bit, then goes quickly to "Ready to upload files" where it just stops.
Any idea on what's going on here?
I managed to get one -dry-run to work all the way, but other than that, this is as far as I can get !

Just got it working. My issue was I am using the built-in redis and I had the server address as the IP address. Once I changed it it localhost it started working.
Does anyone know what happens if I want to avoid duplicate stuff of photos coming from a Google Takeout? I probably have 90% photos already directly on Immich, but I wish I could import GPhotos albums and that 10% I might miss. I'm scared to have duplicated photos (or even in lower resolution coming from GPhotos)

@@sevenmmp Honestly no 😅 I didn't import my Google Photo dump, in order to avoid this possible issue for me
If you use Immich-go it should automatically remove duplicates and keep the highest quality copy. That's basically why it was created 👍
How to migrate to new server?
love it, but why are you windowing your already hard to see screen capture? can you please not window it, or just increase the resolution on your desktop while you do your screen capture so the viewer doesn't need a giant monitor to catch what's happening? thank you.
It seems to be working fine until it says "Ready to upload files" and then just nothing happens. Anyone else that has this problem or the fix?

@@ColdSystems I deleted the PostgreSQL and Immich docker. Then also deleted the appdata which is stored. Followed along with all the steps in the videos and now it works for me.

I'm honestly surprised Google Takeout even exists. Did they do that to comply with GDPR or something? Doesn't seem great for their business model.
Be very careful when you use this as I have seen an entire day of photos I took not appearing in the immich timeline or getting backed up. Basically it looses photos. IMO this system isn't yet ready for prime time usage
why for the love of god does it have to be so hard to get the google photos anywhere? i get that this is "easy". but only as an one time thing. why cant we have something that gets the files from google photos as they are uploaded. So that you can use your own server as the second backup solution. I understand that the problem is really on googles side. its just. gaaah
This is a good example of why so many people have had enough. Most of the commercial cloud solutions are designed to lock you into their systems as much as possible.

You don't even have to think. He spells it out for you. Just swap the IP and API for your Immich server. It couldn't get much easier
