Who was The Headless Horseman of the Wild West? | A Frontier Folktale

When you close your eyes and picture the mysteries and mythology of the American frontier, the image of a headless horseman more than likely never crosses the horizon despite its prevalence in storytelling across the world.
While the Legend of Sleepy Hollow grabbed the attention of many across the Atlantic region of a young United States, it never quite chilled the spines of the folks who migrated west of the Mississippi River, at least enough to fill the minds of folk with the fear of a lurking headless horse rider. That is until 1850, when a couple of Texas Rangers returned to their families with tales of a decapitated outlaw tormenting the barren regions of present-day South Texas, all thanks to a plan of vengeance gone sideways. This is a deeper dive into the folktale of El Muerto, the headless horseman of the wild west still spotted along the dusty deserts for the last 170 years.

As for the Texas Rangers, being infamous, they are famous. They did have some bad actors, but it did not tarnish the star of the Texas rangers.
