- Delta Force Black Hawk Down Review
Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is a first-person shooter video game set in the early 1990s during the Unified Task Force peacekeeping operation in Somalia.
The missions take place primarily in the southern Jubba Valley and the capital Mogadishu.
The game was developed by NovaLogic.
It was released for Microsoft Windows on March 23, 2003; for Mac OS X in July 2004; and forPlayStation 2 and Xbox on July 26, 2005.
It is the 6th game of the Delta Force series. - Фільми й анімація
What Novalogic always nailed was long distance multiplayer. Delta Force 2 holds such high memories from me back in the 90's.
I played the crap out of this back in the day
does anybody still play? I'd love to do a throwback. first online war game I've ever played.
Zachary Lynch I still play
I kinda like what they tried with their Optic Rendering. When you aim through your iron sights or optic on a real life firearm, you're supposed to keep both of your eyes open, and _because_ both eyes are open, your sights / optics appear to be slightly "transparent", allowing you to "see" right through them. I think it's a bit exaggerated in this game, with the optic housing being almost invisible, but considering the time period, this was really smart.
It's a shame no one is really trying to do something similar nowadays. With current technology i think it would look really good
This was exciting stuff at the time. NovaLogic was highly under rated. This game was ahead of its time and in fact is now more expansive than modern games. The graphics were fine at the time. Compared to what? Expansive play areas, modern combat... In 2002 we were playing WW2 Mohaa and BF1942. COD 1 wasn't even released until October 2003 and was WW2. Desert Combat Mod (which was the basis for future Battlefield games) for BF1942 wasn't released until 2003. i'd like to see a modern game compare to the multi player provided by games like this and Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising.
The PS2 Version of it is more detailed, I still can't believe they put much effort on the PS2 Version but not the PC.
I remember first picking up a PS2 copy of Delta Force Black Hawk Down and played it on my PS3. After losing my copy and finding one for my Xbox, it was surprisingly drastically different. The 2 ports felt like 2 different games altogether. The PS2 version kind of felt like Rainbow Six in a way. It had squad tactics, optional objectives, weapon and skill unlocking through a star ranking system used for missions with the stars acting as currency. You really had to think about what you should bring from different grenades and medical supplies. As well as keeping your guys alive and using them their skills. It was tough but was pretty good, never finished it though. The Xbox version is identical to the PC version shown here and felt very nice although I lost some of that tactical freedom albeit limited freedom. Would be cool to hear your thoughts on the PS2 version if you can get your hands on it to see how different it feels.
Rafi Hardadi I think the ps2s hardware was unable to process the original version so they tone it down so it would work properly.
Yeah the devs were also different for the game.
4:34 my face when the simple capturing of Aidids officers went full on Battle of Mogadishu
at least soldier didn't get panic.
another interesting thing about this game is its the only xbox shooter to support up to 32 players via lan
KeithShizuo not even halo was on that level of players this game is a masterpiece
Truly the grandad of modern video games.
There is an independent development team making a spiritual successor to DF: BHD titled "Leave No Man Behind". It is now in Alpha phase testing. THQ owns the franchise now. If they like the game they are going to run with it. If you want to stay on top of the progress, join the FB group "DF: BHD Revival" and "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down - Old school gamers".
If this is true pls id love to try it out.
@Jack D. Ripper The developers are Red Jake Studios and the game is officially called "Tip of the Spear: Task Force Elite".The game is not officially out but they are in a pre- launch phase on Steam. I don't do early release games so I keep watching. They have a FB page called: Tip of the Spear: Task Force Elite. The game looks beautiful! Go check them out.
I played the demo of this wheni was a kid it was sick
It's at GOG.com now. With the expansion pack, Team Sabre
I don't recall if it was Black Hawk Down or Task Force Dagger, but there was some mission where you had to hold off a base from a watchtower with a PSG1 while mooks just sprinted at you from three directions in a straight line. It took like 45 minutes, and at the end the stats told me I had killed almost 200 people.
It was Delta Force Team Sabre, I remember it very fondly.
Also, one of the only games that let's you play as a member of the 10th mountain division

Good stuff!
Awesome! Would love to play it!
This and “Army Ranger Mogadishu” were the two games I know that covered this incident.
I always found the PS2 version to be better than the Pc one though.
When it comes to the bits of unrealism I think of DF like Ace Combat, a sorta pseudo-realism. It's based in reality on tons of frants but the moment to moment action is arcade enough to feel as fun as it does immersive. Not outright scripted action movie levels as COD but not ultra realism like ARMA. My favorite aspect is the amount of freedom, something every DF offers (like what you said about the helicopters- you're in full control while riding)
Good review ! I found this game to be interesting in it's setting. Like you said, plenty of variety in location for a game that is set in the middle of Somalia, but it isn't enough. The shooting system is somewhat odd, enemies although realistically they die fast in one bullet, although in real life if you get shot in a leg or arm you would still able to shoot, but you either hit enemies very easy or you just completely miss them even if you put plenty of rounds in their direction.
The cinematic effects and atmosphere are well done for a Delta Force game and yes, they put forward the modern warfare niche along with Rainbow Six series and SWAT.But it feels unfinished and needed more detailed weapons, enemies and gamplay mechanic.
+Gabriel Stan Thanks!
I found the game noteworthy in its release, a few months before the first Call of Duty and a year before Halo 2.
But the fact it exists seems odd when it came years after the film and book and sadly, it seems to be the last good installment in the series.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Salokin Sekwah Yes, game companies always wants to cash in after a big book or movie success. You also forget that in 2003 there was a big hype about Freelancer, Raven Shield, Beyond Good & Evil, Chaser, Fable, KOTOR, Rise of Nations, SH 3 and others of course. So a mediocre-average game has no chance in this league.
Gabriel Stan Damn! Playing through KOTOR right now, sweet game!
Salokin Sekwah Indeed !
+Salokin Sekwah I liked kotor 2 more...
How about a review of ColdWinter?
+Bleakunending When i find a copy, sure!
Salokin Sekwah Wow :)
I love this game a lot i miss those days when game was real game :))
Ya probably forgot something dude
The mission Editor lol
It allowes you to make custom maps
But this does not work on Steam Versions but theres a guy in www.novahq.net that are making a tool for that!
Completely agree, and the rpg enemies are just not very well done. Like you could be completely fine one second and then BOOM I hope you quicksaved! Yes it's "realistic", but it's not good game design. However, I still really enjoyed the game regardless, and because of the braindead AI, I was able to get some pretty hilarious moments recorded lol.
I know its an old review, but have you ever seen the PS2 version? Has updated models, cutscenes, and more
Probably not, but I know about it
The pain I had as a teenager buying this game and not having a PC with a 32 bit video card..
Which engine they were using?
Comanche engine
Wait... this came out before CoD MW.
You showed the swamp, but not the crocodiles : (
5:05 You mean XM177
Bro why the fuck are you complaining that the enemys have only AK’s and RPG’s , its realistic
Imagine the scene where the black hawk gets shot down and your mission is to rescue the survivors. Put it like this. One or two of your friends are stuck with only pistols and can’t walk while shit loads of enemies trying to kill them while you and maybe two other buddies try to save them. Just play the black hawk down soundtrack and enjoy lol I can only hope for a new more true to the movie I guess. Lol
This is my safety *shows her finger*
MAYBE it’s just me but I’ve played this game I console and it was easy as fuck. Then played it in pc and took me 2 years to complete on normal. Pc version was 10/10 difficult hands down.
Well your are fighting against untrained militia. So yeah, they only stand a chance if they get into a turret or overwhelm you.
But Operation Flashpoint came before this
There is a remaster of the entire series
pog
The multiplayer was tits back in the day but the single play used to piss me off! Why was everyone just cookie cut from the last all you’re friendlys had the same guns and so did the enemy’s besides an RPG here and there and all the kill animations were the same
wasnt to fond of this one. fopund the vehicle sections too hard and the setting a bit tasteless. shoting was also a bit to simulatir-y
Jesus 4:36
you do good Review but for old games ...
Go away xD
Played it once back in 2006 and regreted every moment of it
Your complaining about difficulty is nonsense.
You didn't see socom 1??? This game has alot the same shit as this game but for console
this game has aged like dog shit
ps2 version was better
Delta Force serie was always garbage. So boring.
Maybe some people love old school games Delta Force if you play new games you need some help
@@Jack-Eugen I played all the classic FPS games back then. DN3D, Heretic, Quake, you name it. Unlike these games DF aged poorly. It looked cool but gameplay was crap.
@@kkarx i understand you but in those years was not so much powerfull computers but now in 2020 i want to see old delta force with new graphics engine and much better gameplay
@@Jack-Eugen I remember you needed really powerful machine to run first DF games. I had PII 350 which was very good machine at that time and the performance was choppy. The optimalization sucked. The nice thing about the game was DF was probably the first game that introduced quite realistic grass. That was impressive. At least I never saw grass b4 in a fps game.
@@Jack-Eugen Blackhawk down is still miles ahead of DF1 and DF2. I tried it again and this one is decent.
