Hey Jason, just to clarify: you said that the Alpha Wolf pedal uses the Harp Break, but it actually uses the Harp Attack. Did you mean to say Harp Attack in the video?

I was playing amazingly well until I broke my front tooth. Now, I can't play at all. I hope to pass along my primary technique for intonation of chords. Be confident that the "L" embouchure is worthwhile. It takes about a month to learn. That's why no one ever tried it. It's how you can make sounds that even seasoned professionals can only come close.

Thank you for the video, Jason. You hit the nail on the head regarding finding gear that works for the individual. I'm at the point of only playing for seven years and practicing daily for around an hour each day. I've accumulated three mics, three amps, some Lone Wolf pedals and five different kinds of nice harmonicas. This offers me a huge variety of ways to enjoy the sound of the harp enabling me to discover exciting new things along the way. Lucky for me my wife enjoys listening as much as I enjoy playing. Today I decided to try something different and dug out my old Hohner Crossovers I haven't played in a while and my wife started raving about the better sounding notes. The difference was due in part to the exposed combs allowing for easier manipulation of the reeds. I just ordered one of your Lone Wolf Jason Ricci mikes to test out. One reason I wanted it (besides the great reviews from harp players) is because it doesn't have a cord attached allowing me to plug in my Line six transmitter and play cord free. Thanks to you my life is about to get even more complicated and fun to boot.

(Sorry for the long piece of text coming up)
Thank you for the insight into your gear. I'm a country player that sometimes plays blues. I mostly play 90s and 2000s country with some of the 80s in there during what I call the "country harmonica boom", where the harmonica was taking up more solos and got a lot bluesier, thanks to players like Terry McMillan and Jelly Roll Johnson, compared to the sound of 60s and 70s country harmonica (the Charlie McCoy stuff that most harmonica players think of when they hear about country harmonica).
My gear is actually pretty simple. For my harps, I started out on Hohner Special 20s and they served me well for the first year I was playing. Later on, I started experimenting and eventually found myself liking the Hohner Golden Melody. I wanted something that sounded like the harmonica on Garth Brooks's song, "Ain't Goin' Down (til the Sun Comes Up)": a bright and soulful tone, slightly off sounding chords, and could take a lot of wailing. When I heard that the harmonica player on the record and my harmonica hero, Terry McMillan, used Golden Melodies, I knew it was what I want to get and I bought it. After playing it for the first time, I felt like there was a strong connection me and the harp, like the stars and planets were aligned, and I grew a soft spot for it as most of the harmonicas in my collection were Special 20s. It became my most played harmonica and I would pick them up every time I would practice. I still don't have a full set of them, but they grew to become my favorite harps.
For mics and amps, I actually don't have a big tube amp or a bullet mic because I wanted to have a clean sound like on the country records I grew up with. So for in my bedroom, I would play a Fender Champion 20 (sensing a theme yet) amp and use a Shure SM57 instrument mic. It's a little bit distorted for what I want sound-wise, but it works for me. As for playing live, I just use the PA and mic system for what the venue uses. And for pedals, I'm too broke to have them and I don't have the technical know-how in order to plug them in.

I like experimenting, that's how you grow. Frank Zappa said in his preamble to Pygmy In Bondage "this Suggests to the suggestible listener that... that, uh, if you wanna do something other than what you thought you were gonna do when you first took your clothes off and you just happened to have some DEVICES around... then it's, it's not only okay to get into the PARAPHERNALIA of it all but... hey!" Devices are fun.

if you're still getting pain in your gums chew on a piece of ginger root, the pain relief is immediate, however the ginger pulp has the ability to draw out any infection that may be going on so do not swallow it.
also as a completely natural substance, no side effects and cannot overdose.
i just changed brand on harmonica to seydel, now i know why they don't come up for sale second hand i am Loving the stainless steel reeds.
as a beginner i am still focused on my acoustic sound more than amplified but sure enough for the sake of experimentation i do have a mic and a small amp.
i got a hold of a fender squire made in china, a 10 watt "practice amp" and a "hobo robo" which is literally an egg shaped tea strainer which has been converted into a harp mic and costs thirty bucks English, thirty bucks!
y'know what? they sound great together!

Crate VC508 5 watt tube amp, possibly the most underrated amplifier on Earth, often sells for about $175. Combine that with a 50,000 ohm dirt cheap early 60s Japanese microphone and a cheap pedal for reverb or delay and you have a killer rig for under $275.

I'm a month into playing harmonica and am dying to get a mic to play through a guitar amp I already have. That's lead to deep dark forum and UA-cam hole. Mostly opinions that completely for or against something without any real reason. "It just sounds better" is not a reason. I'm happy I came across this video because the idea of playing what sounds good to the individual playing makes the most sense. Sound is very subjective.

Hello, Jason, when you talk about Bullet Mics breaking my Hohner Blues Blaster broke I had a conversation with my sister who does not understand anything about Bullet Mics and wanted to ask me something and asked what I was doing and I told her my Hohner Blues blaster broke and needs to be repaired and I'm looking for another Blues Blaster as I have. She said just go buy a new one I said you can't then she said see I found one right here a Hohner HB52 Harp Blaster Dynamic Harmonica Microphone. I replied I don't want that one it does not have
the same sound and tone that I'm looking for. I found the 2. parts. it needed a Potentiometer/pot which is hard to find. My friend and mentor said you need to go on the forums and ask people who play Harmonica about where to get your Bullet Mics repaired. He has Harmonica player friends like Flat Top Tom Lee Osker etc. who are on there you need to talk to them or to you Jason. I have never been on a forum site for Harmonica players that talk about repairing your Bullet Mics and where to go. I called a guy who repairs Mics but he only repairs High-End
Studio Mics told me there are not a lot of places that repair those Bullet Mics. I bought a Hohner Blues Blaster from my friend and found another Hohner Blues Blaster online. I saw one that is selling on eBay for $510.48 seems rather high when I bought 2. of them and spent $6008. for them. I know about Dennis Gruenling. I talked to him about Bullet Mics and he said to go to his Website and send me a message but I never heard back from him. He could be on tour or helping his students is why I have not heard back from him is possible. Jason, you
said he is the guy you want to go to. I don't know if he just sells you a Mic you want or if he will repair my Mic too. I wanted to Hot Rod the inside powder coat the shell a custom candy blue color and re-chrome the grill. I'm not savvy with wiring to do it myself I may have messed up the XLR adaptor that the small screw sits in behind the Hohner Blues Blaster sticker. It fell in the hole now the inside of the XLR that the XLR cord goes into moves. I was unable to practice for over two weeks. It gets a bit depressing not being able to play. I don't know the names of these forums to go to or who you recommend besides Dennis Gruenling. Are there other repair shops or do you think he's the one? Any help would be great. Thank You so much for sharing this video, Dana!

Short tailed lizard huh ?!? I’m willing to bet Vestaire ate that tail in order to create his own likeness and have him a Bobtail lizard to pal around with. That, or the lizard decided he wanted to identify as a Gila monster. 😸

Based on what I’ve been told, and especially through my own experience with a Line6 amp, they simply want to stay clean as much as they can. Unless you go to the insane channel (which may not be a useful sound for harp), it will stay relatively clean at all times. If you want it to break up, maybe try a Harp Attack in front of the amp.

Reason I stopped by, thinking too much. I understand Randy has discontinued the harp train 10. That’s my go to amp unless practicing. All stock. If it got stolen, I have asked myself what would I replace it with if I could not find one used. Again thinking too much. I really don’t know maybe a stage 5 maybe a HG double trouble? I listened to the whole video. I think I get it now there is no canned choice. Cool.

Hey Jason !! I play a vintage microphone through the harp train 10 Amp with the Memphis mini harp verp pedal. And I only use Marine bands only because I'm so used to playing the wooden Combs and it just works best for me.
