Barry Island Pleasure Park 2014 - No longer occurring
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 лют 2014
- Aerial tour of Barry Island Fairground, with just the long-featured Log Flume and Haunted Mine (formerly Wacky Gold Mine) the only rides left standing at the time. Look closely for the Frankenstein and the animals left standing in what remains of the Jungle Boat Ride.
The music is here: audiojungle.net/item/solaris/3...
Filmed with a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter, GO Pro Hero3 Black and Zenmuse H3-2D gimbal.

Wow, so sad. SOOO many happy memories as a kid spent at Barry Island pleasure park.
I remember we used to visit my late Auntie Gwen in the early 80s from Luton as a child. Great memories the Wacky gold mine ride scared the shit out of me as kid lol. Also remember the Jungle ride with the guy climbing up the tree escaping the animal and hippo in the water....
what a sad sight, I spent many a happy day out and holidays in Barry in the early to mid-60s. To see it in this state is a reflexion on the state of Britain today.
8 years on
Barry island now have some rides that you don't see anywhere else!
Crazy to think when I saw this video 7 yrs ago I thought that was it for Barry island pleasure park.
Everyone said it was going to be used as a housing estate.
But no Henry danter bought the park and has turned it around There's a bit more to do but with big rides like aerospaces and topscan around this park is near perfection!!
Thank you for saving Barry island Henry
breaks my heart looking at that as I loved Barry when I was a kid going to butlins and going to that fun fair everyday on holiday in 80,s
Yep I am a Barry resident and I have watched the decline of the town from the 1980s onwards. I don't think there is any way back for this town now, I wouldn't mind betting it becomes the UK's first "Ghost Town"
Barry Island Pleasure Park will be reopening for Easter holidays and will be open during half terms and summer holidays weather permitting during 2014. The rides come in approx 2 weeks before as stated by Mark Vockins.
If this pleasure park is going to be open in Easter you should be pleased that you are getting free publicity off Crazy High!!
Adrian Lock
Free publicity saying its closed for good?????? Okay thank you crazy high!!!!! lol
Christina Rogers Christina Rogers5 hours ago
"Incorrect it is not getting knocked down to be retirement flats. It is going to be an under cover leisure complex as the owner wants there to be somewhere the Barry community can go in all weather and at all times of year."
So it IS closing as far as a fair ground is concerned?
Adrian Lock
In very many years to come!!! Not any time soon. So still a funfair!!!!!!!
Shall make sure Crazy High fly over the fair ground at Easter. Wave if your on the Log Flume!
Excellent video, looking forward to many more of your video's.
The log flume was brilliant. Best thing about the funfair. Once a year we would all head to Barry Island, Log flume first and then onto the safari boat ride. Best childhood memories ever.
I passed Pleasure Park after a visit to Pernarth Pier a couple years back and thought one day I would visit, but I guess not. Superb photography and I thank you for letting me visit the place, albeit after the fact.
Henry Danter took over the park this year... New rides have arrived for the bank holiday weekend... Been down there twice... Amazing!!! It will live again.. All the Best Henry 👍
its so sad to see a fantastic piece of history gone forever. Shame on you Vale Council
Nothing to do with the council this time, Ian Rogers who owns the ground ballsed it up after his Father Ken Died suddenly about 15 or so yrs ago. Hyper value (Rogers owned) went into receivership in about 2005 ish and the state of the Island is completely their fault. sad but true :(
Alyson-jayne Hemlock
If I was you I would get my facts straight before chatting so much rubbish. Anyway as you will be glad to hear the Island is open as usual for the Easter holidays and throughout 2014
+ Christina Rogers
I don't believe my opinion is rubbish at all, the sad fate of the pleasure park is well documented. The state of the so called rides and attractions that have been roped in, in recent years have been an embarrassment to the town. My sister and I worked on the park in the late 70s and early 80s as kids, as did my dad when he was a teenager and we all have wonderful memories. The park is gone now and no amount of Gyppos with dodgems will convince me otherwise.
Alyson-jayne Hemlock Christina Rogers Badmouthing people isn't going to help anything. The plans for Barry Island Pleasure Park are amazing and Ian Rogers is doing all that he can do to make it a better place and keep it running during the winter and the Summer season. It makes me wonder sometimes why he is even bothering when people such as yourself choose to badmouth him.
Gabriella Gardner I have never 'Badmouthed' anyone, simply corrected someone who blamed the council for the fairground's demise and quoted a statement of fact. If you think the ground is run safely and you enjoy putting your kids safety in the hands of gypsies, great, have a blast but also don't give Ian Rogers a halo he doesn't deserve.
how depressing - this was my local funfair as a kid - remember when the log flume was the big new ride.
surely funfair rides at the seaside are a no brainer - how did it all go so wrong?
mr y mysterious video I have this book I'm reading and it says how the guy who designed the log flume there did it and so on but he talks about a "wacky goldmine" if you have any information on it please message me thanks
James Manders the wacky gold mine was the haunted house which is two buildings away from the log flume
The real life Dismaland!!
Same! watching that and the no longer occurring butlins vid has now got me all sad :(( i have the best memories as a kid down there. They even used to do concerts on the beach lol i saw kris cross and peter andre down there hahahaha
Great video .
I've just come here from 28DL. Lovely video, nicely done.
As far as i know it will open Easter again as it has done since 1920.For the last few years all the rides turn up 2 weeks or so before the kids break up for the Easter holidays and then leave in September when they kids go back to school after the summer holidays.
dont know were you heard that from its gone mate i live in the town
buck rogers
The park has not gone. Will be reopen fro Easter 2014
it will be the last year though mate, there calling it the encore before they start the redevelopment and turn it into a indoor leisure complex and residential accommodation
buck rogers Mark also lives in Barry, He is the owner of Quasar Located 15 Meters away from the Park its self.
05thomaslj i really dont care who owns the poxy lazer tag place it always sucked sorry
as a kid I can remember buying a band to go on all the rides and also sneeking into butlins and playing snooker for free, shame to say that its the loss of butlins that has fucked everything up for the island, it no longer feels like it did when butlins was there, it felt good to be around the island in summer time.
Took my boy there last year and was shocked at the decline. Worked there in my first summer job, many happy memories.
Really nice fly by , I loved it . As a barry boy I have seen this happenig over the years. Its very Sad. Great footage
Its open now tho?? x
So sad to watch. Like many I spent a lot of time holidaying there and porthcawl because we used to take my nan who had suffered strokes so it's the only holiday she could have. Brings a little tear to my eye to be honest. Memories keep as well as lots of photos of all the family there where I was as young 2 years old with one of those flashing LED head bands on.. also the day trips there with the clubs in the summer on a double decker - what a childhood :) I'm 32 now and gutted my child wont experience any of it
I was at quasar yesterday and I looked at the pleasure park and wishes it was open it's sad such good times I never got a chance on the log fumes
It's open again now, Henry Danter has it and it's open 7 days a week all year around! Just knocked down the old rides (little bit of log flume to go) and overheard a guy working there saying they want a log flume to go there if they can get one. It's great now! Some amazing rides and really well maintained, staff contanstly cleaning and going around picking up cigarette butts etc. We had a great time and it was packed! Lots of really great rides too.
Best of luck for the new season at BIPP Henry!
So sad to see it like that 😢😢 wish it was all still ther I miss all off the fun fair I can remember every ride what was ther so sad
It's back and very operational
(Awesome video) it's a shame to see the log flume like that but there putting a new roller coaster in its place
I hope it re-opens
Cool camera work :) What is the music on this?
audiojungle.net/item/solaris/3...
Good work. What device was used for this?
Cool vid. Very nice flying for an LOS flight...close to that tree @ 1:53 :) ...I'm just getting into FPV with my DJI F450, so my vid's tend to be from higher altitude! I fly a lot around the Barry area, scary flying over water isn't it!
Nice job.
That tree was scary! I refused to kill the forward momentum so just hoped I didn't clip it. Would have probably landed in the water of the jungle boat ride too. We'll have to meet up. I love Barry, such a great place.
crazy high A meet when the weather improves sounds good. We should get some interesting video with two quad's flying around!
omg i went here in 2010 i was 10 years old imma o this year in may i dont feel like goin anymore;(
Vernon stud of stud amusements is opening the park from may to September
Totally shocked is an understatement ! As many comments prior too mine I spent and had many happy days here in the 80s.as a child. To think the theme park had Top draw rides you would see in any major theme park across Europe at the time and they even took The bigger rides down like the Traum Boat and Pirate ship and opened at the famous Nottingham Goose fair and Hull fair when they had shut for the winter. Coal Mine Closures was the beginning of the end as many families swarmed this place in the summer on shut down weeks. I also read somewhere The Butlins camp beachcomber bar had the longest bar in Europe !. and the camp it self was not originally ear marked for closure . All in all these were the 2 things that killed it. I Know a showman who was going too buy this site and totally rebuild it but the asking price was off the scale so he walked away . Even the rides that left was in very poor condition but yet the owner of the park wanted silly money .With the right investors and imagination it could happen.
Anyone know the backing music to this video please?
Wow, such an amazing place. I bet this video would help attract customers! If only it was open.....
Barry Island Pleasure Park will be reopen for Easter 2014. As normal the rides are cleared out for winter.
Christina Rogers Yes, I know... It's all thanks to this video! It's brilliant, don't you agree? :)
gina gnomes
Yes this video made it all happen!!!!! so excited and def brilliant with the false statement they have given too. AMAZING!! :D
Christina Rogers I can't seem to find any false statement.... "No longer occurring" ... I take that this is what you refer to? Well, from the video, nothing seems occurring, no rides, no customers... No where in this video does it state that the park is closed; does it?
It's a shame hype value didn't start again and totally update Barry island with modern rides and modernised buildings it would be rammed in the summer if they did this?
Pleasure Park is closed. But they are doing a few rides for scandalous prices near the beach.
Maybe re name the place Alli Island.....
There is a log flume and wheel new for this season so far
so sad I heard they were trying to make it into a leisure complex
Good news on This I have heard yesterday a well known Showman has bought this and if it is anything like his other park it will be immaculate.
I think your mistaken - m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-30058551
prescottjj2279 Have you seen the recent news on this ? . As I have said in above comment and now officially confirmed on the news. Henry Danter has purchased this park and will be returning it back to how it was .
so so sad :'( Can't believe Barry Island's dead!!
all the times. all the memories. i'll never be able to take my kids
This reminds me of Playland at the beach in San Francisco California. it's part of my earliest memories. it was on the western most part of San Francisco, looking out across the Pacific Ocean. It had a Fun house, & a long slide that you had to put burlap under your legs so they wouldn't burn. Then there was Laughing Sal. She was a huge mechanized mannequin who had an infectious laugh that never stopped. She was a true icon for San Francisco and is the only thing left. By the early 70's, it had gone to rack and ruin and was shut down early in that decade. Lots of great memories. I'm guessing Barry Island Pleasure Park had the same memories for you too.
He he. The slide burns were part of the fun :p I have been to that place so many times. There was a hill that had to be created on the way down to Barry and it was the first sight of the sea. There used to be a steam locomotives graveyard there there that was full of rusting sleeping giants. The car park was close to it too. That was a sight for young eyes. So sad. I'd go there with my parents and my school and so many dates were spent there ::p. I bet the weather was Better in 'Cisco, though lol
Ant percy Ant my friend, I like you a lot but I must gently and respectfully appraise you of what I assume was an unintentional faux pas in your response: Never, EVER refer to San Francisco as Cisco. It makes the blood boil of native San Franciscans such as myself. I forgive you.
Lmao. I sit corrected lol
claire price Where did this come from? You seem very angry; why?
Sad, yet another welsh sea side resort gone down the pan, Barry & Porthcawl used 2 b awesome but since they got rid of barry butlins & sandy bay caravan park in porthcawl they've all been goin down hill.
I agree with you, sadly...
i like the beach for the scenery but i would not go swimming in the sea as the sewerage comes out of the pipes and into the sea thats why the sea is all brown
so sad. It was always a place to take the little ones, so easy on the train from Cardiff and the valleys. I would have kept and added all the old fashioned rides, carousels, dodgems etc. Keep it tradtional, but smarten it up a tad.
2014, such a bad depressing year
Looks like the "funfair" has gone forever!
nope :) some new guy has bought it and is really willing to do it all up like his other fair ground in stourport called treasure island .
Michael Todd You are Correct . I know the Danter family well and Henry who has bought this is the right man for this job watch this space
Nicholas Weaver so true
Having written Penarth Through Time, Amberley Books
have now asked me to write Barry Island Through Time. I am looking at the possibility
of using a still from your drone video.
Full acknowledgement and credit will be given for all stills
used. I just want to present Barry Island in the best possible light by using
the best available photographs.
Please only reply to this if you do not wish a still to be
used.
Kind Regards
David Ings
David Ings hi David, that's fine but please credit my Locky Live channel as this one is no longer used. I probably have the original footage and that will produce a better still photo.
Is this done line of sight or FPV?
the gear they used is capable of FPV
Yeah I know that, I've got a phantom 2 but I was wondering if this was done FPV. Very easy to lose situational awareness and this is great.
It was all line of sight. I am trying to resist FPV gear for the moment. Might get something in the summer. In the opening shot (not the beach) I am hiding behind one of the pillars :)
Take them to Porthcawl fair was always better there anyway
Well it was made public on an official fairground site yesterday that Henry Danter the owner of Stourport on severn has bought this park. and will doing something with it. I know demolition of the gold mine is underway.
What did u ues to film this
a drone most probs
Grant Chaletzos I would probs agree]
it says it in the about bit..its a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter
Omg
It's just decayed over the years and it looked like a haunted park but now they've reopened it...I don't like it the rides are just awful and you have to pay to ride...sad man.
What a powerful film -I help run the Barry Ideasbank - where we enable local people to make their place better by sharing their ideas, adding to other people's ideas and create new conversations.
The film is a powerfful testimony for the need for action.
Would be brilliant if you could post it on the Barry IdeasBank at www.yourideasbank.org.uk and follos us on Twitter @BrryIdeasbank - 1200 other people already do.
Interested to find out the motivation for making the film, how it was made - and also would be great to have the film maker speak at a future event we are planning to organise in Barry?
Looks like the Bulldozers have moved in to demolish the log flume and some rides parked up for when the park is ready
Fantastic footage. Quite haunting. Many memories for me.
Unfortunately it appears to me that whoever controls this town has no interest whatsoever in preserving anything. Flats, houses = Council Tax. This it seems is more important. No vision.
There must be a reason for this of course?
Its reopening now danters taking over
soon to be retirement flats. planning app already approved
Incorrect it is not getting knocked down to be retirement flats. It is going to be an under cover leisure complex as the owner wants there to be somewhere the Barry community can go in all weather and at all times of year.
Christina Rogers the redevelopment is an indoor leisure complex and residential area
What no dodgems
Dodgems will be there throughout the season. Opening Easter 2014 :D
what a crap hole i went there about 1 year ago and its changed loads its turned into a housing estate by the sea. vale of glamorgan killed Barry island.
I agree, my mum grew up at Barry and said she remembers having 20p to go on rides down there when she was little. So sad to see it go, but it's open now with the danters! But it's true, the vale of Glamorgan killed Barry
Vale of Glamorgan council to blame! Wankers! Wouldnt think twice about spunking like £50k on some crappy iron "art" up thompson street!! They are sitting on a potential goldmine in Barry Island if they pulled their fingers out of their arses! The knap pool as well why not just take all our best memories and wipe them out! And dont get me started on the cinema....
To Chrisy and Alyson I suggest you know your facts before chatting such rubbish.
