- Sent to us by Roger Middleton, there's some great scenes of Barry Island at night in this footage. Please note there's no audio and the footage is also jumpy. This is how the original video files were sent to Then Was... and we suspect it's due to the original capture from video tape.
The scenes featured show the night time illuminations and lights around the resort and the fun fair. You'll see some of the great old rides they had there, including the Wacky Goldmine, Century 2000 and the Log Flume. There's some scenes of the arcades, featuring Pac Land and a game who's name escapes but was a lot of fun and involved running around a maze hitting mummies with guitars. There's also some nice footage of the ghost train with its animatronics above the entrance.
At the point the video was shot Butlins had changed hands and you can see the newly clad Majestic Campsite building in the background of some of the shots.
We'd like to thank Roger for sending us this footage to share, and if any of you out there have old video footage of Cardiff, Barry and South Wales, we'd love to be able to share it for you. Just drop us a line either here or via thenwas.com
