Nice work, I have to take it in my Kali practice
Excellent video as always. I'm going to practice the drills you've shown here. Thanks to all of you guys over a Kali Center.
Impressive guro Paul. We can never be coordinated enough! Train, train and then some more 💪
Great videos...you've inspired me to train outside the Dojo....I'm in search of more scenic options...
I remember learning how to use the Bo Staff in Monkey Style Kung Fu. And I love how Bruce Lee uses a Bo Staff in Enter The Dragon in the scene where he was fighting Han's guards underground, which one of them was Jackie Chan, and it is amazing learning how to fight with a Bo Staff and a spear. #Kali #KaliCenter
Very well! GM.
Looks great!
There is no divorce from the stick is there? All the motions and attacks are there. With movements that are unique the extra range of the staff.
Great for a 50-inch jo! Now let’s see you play with a 36-inch crooked cane with retention moves.
The staff moves seems very similar to kalaripayattu (indian martial art) correct me if I'm wrong. I like how you handle the staff very well you look like your weilding a broadsword or a squall (the one those knights use) and most of all they look very easy to apply but from what I can see using that staff is very exhausting.
Yes, lots of similarities between martial arts. It's a good staff.
Vary nic sifu
Can you giv me vido how to treinig the stik 1levli thinks
Yes, Kali Center Level 1 curriculum is in the Inner Triangle program.
Nice! Is this a four footer? Cannot quite tell? Thanks, Eric.
Yes
@@kalicenter I am so used to seeing the typical rattan (or hardwood) 5.5 or 6 foot staff!
Is a four footer unique to Filipino martial arts?
How long should a spear or staff be? Every culture seems to have different preferences...
There are various lengths in Kali. Staff is typically either floor to plexus or floor to temple and spear is short spear floor to plexus or long spear floor to a couple feet above your head.
@@kalicenter Thank you so much! I've been playing around with the idea of making polearms. The ones shown in TV and movies are always so large, but I made a pole saw (gardening) the other day and was surprised how unwieldy it got after about 6-7 ft. (And I'm 6'4" and it was light! Made out of aluminum!), are there any techniques in Kali/silat for specifically longer/heavier polearms/(halberds?) Have you ever had tried a staff that was a couple feet taller than you? I'd be interested to see if you thought it was more useful to have a shorter staff instead?
I feel like the techniques for the long spear like you mentioned must be totally different to those for short spears. Kind of like Japanese yari vs kung fu staff, or even guan dao.
I guess I'm just trying to say I'd be really interested to see you use a long spear/staff from a Kali perspective.
Never seen that before
