been a viewer of the channel 4 LITERAL AGES now. speaking as BOTH a BATON TWIRLER & ARNIS PRACTITIONER,the 2 bodies of knowledge have ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PURPOSES. in my experience, staff moves that are COMBAT ORIENTED like THESE look every bit impressive compared to EXHIBITIONS ONLY. i'm also a DRUMMER,so fairly familiar w/ ALL LENGTHS of sticks. OSS!
I have a beautiful 5 foot ash tool handle I use. I might get a 6 foot red oak staff which is a denser wood, but I really don't have enough space on my deck to go full with 5 foot. I practice a lot of Tai Chi and Bagua staff. I started training Silat and Escrima in 1993.
Then while the person is occupied at restraining my staff at it's end i would temporarily let go of my staff and move towards him and take advantage. Tho i would need suffcient speed to do that, and surprise that person.

Mental notes on how you are holding the staff as you maneuver around... incorporating the hook of my cane in my head right now!!
Excellent tutorial. Can absolutely agree with you on Kali's adaptive nature.

Do you have a preferred wood for your staff or does any work?

What happens when someone grabs the end of your staff with an iron grip?....then what?
What would You do?

Kick him in the groin or shin bones to distract him, then no.5 thrust or just pull your bankaw out.🙏
