I have a Dreo and I am loving it and no one paid me to say it. I love that I can put a couple steaks in it and it tells me how long it will take to get done. The steaks cut like butter…delicious.
basically he cook the first steak at the DREO optimal setting and the others on the same settings even if the heat elements and cooking style are very different, and guess what, they all did worst, what a surprise.... this was just an extended Ad made just to make the Dreo shine
The best way to use an airfryer for steak is for the initial step of a reverse sear. Season a nice thick steak and place it on its edge, fat cap up (toothpicks might be necessary for balancing). Use the airfryer setting at 300F for 10-15 min for 1.5" or 15-20 min for 2". The steak should be 10F below doneness, the surface will have had moisture removed by the convection fans, and the fat cap will have rendered itself, basting the steak in fat. Sear the steak with your preferred method and enjoy a perfect reverse sear in half the time. As an owner of the Chefmaker, the chefmaker function is great for juicy doneness, but sucks for crust across the recipes. For the best results, either use the probe cook function or stop the chefmaker recipe at the browning phase and manually finish using the broiler or airfry modes.
The Dreo does an amazing job with steaks and it puts on a sear. It uses more than basic air frying. I own one and it makes steaks as good as I can make in the way you describe.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video not because I like to cook steaks in an air fryer, I would much rather cook them, sous vide, and then sear them in butter with rosemary. But, I have been on the verge of homelessness for about the past three months, and yes, I have a full-time job I’m working hard to get everything caught up, I’ll get there eventually, but for someone like me, living in a camper, wanting a delicious steak, I would absolutely cook a steak in an air fryer, the only thing I would do differently, is, I would treat it like the reverse sear method. If I had to use an air fryer. All in all, if you are living on a budget, you can find a nice sous vide, circulator and vacuum sealer for right around $150 altogether that’s including bags, save up a little money, and get you a sous vide machine and plenty of bags, it will change how you cook forever ! If you’ve been watching this channel for long enough, you have probably seen how to do sous vide, it’s simple and easy and delicious, it’ll make cooking a steak so simple. It’s ridiculous. You can season it with whatever you like, I like, putting some white pepper on my steaks as well, but the air fryer trick works if that’s all you have and you want to have a good steak. Could you do something like this for a date night? Absolutely but if you’re going to use an air fryer, I would use some type of small cast-iron pan to help develop that sear. Or cook the steak to rare, then throw it in a hot pan with some butter and rosemary.
no, he is doing it right, the product is working as intended without external influence. the other three did not comes with the thermometer and it was not part of its original design.
Thank you for this. I live on my own so I tend to use my air fryer oven and my more traditonal table top oven as it can be a waste of power heating up the larger oven in my apartment just to cook enough for one person so it's nice to see the comparison of how they cook differently
I have the Brevile Smart Joule model and I pretty much don't use my regular oven anymore. It's really fantastic for everything, including air frying and dehydrating.
I dont eat beef anymore as my doctor said chlosterol too high lol... but use the mini grill with light above and below to grill my potatoes or sometimes vegetarian burger... but eat every day 160 gram of canned tuna though ham easy eatable and you wont get full for the rest of the meals, and it gives me enough protein and energy to lift 17.5 kg dumbbells 20 times, will go to 20 kg soon...
I got an air fryer for Christmas, it cooks the steak perfectly, on my fryer it takes 10 minutes on high heat to get a perfect steak, just salt and spray oil on it and its delicious every time.
the one i used for the last 4 years ( without being paid for) but you still loved = i go with implements chefs use that they aren't pimping - there might be a reason
each of these units have their own power source - and should be adjusted with cook time and temp to get the crust - but also perfect cooked steak inside. With adjustments, one should be able to get crust, and a quality med rare steak from any of these units.
Have had my Dreo since it first came out and I couldn’t be happier. Everything they said was true except I get crusts on my steaks no problem. Is it as good as what you would get from charcoal or torching after sous vide? No, but it’s super convenient and is still extremely tasty. It also has cooked one of the better pork tenderloins I’ve ever had.
Guga! You have got to check out the new Cosori Twinfry. I live in Europe and so the options are different than in the US. I'm on a Carnivore diet and so I need lots of nicely cooked red meat. My oven broiler just didn't work. I could never get that nice sear. That left me with the frying pan. And while I could get the job done, it would smell up and smoke up my whole apartment, often setting off the smoke detector. So I searched and searched. I watched your videos on air fryers, and they really do struggle with cooking a decent steak. Then the Cosori Twin Air recently came out. I'm a single guy so the 10L cooking area is overkill for my needs, but it quickly heats up to 487F / 240C. And let me tell you, when you select grill mode at top temp for 10 min, plus I used my inkbird temp stick, the results where amazing. A beautiful Maillard reaction while my not so thick steak. was perfectly medium rare. No smoke, no excessive smell around the whole apartment. You've got to check out the new twinfry. The higher temp seems to make all the difference.
These are air fryers so if use the air fryer mode I think it would have provided better results which I’ve seen! And moving the steaks around to the heating elements in the broiling mode would have yielded better results!
I don't think the lack of browning has anything to do with the heating element but air circulation. Water boils off at 212f and surface browning can only occur when the moisture is removed. Convection replaces saturated air with dry air.
The breville comes with a mesh basket for air frying. When you use a tray the air flow and heat won't be correct. However it still wouldn't be a good as a dedicated air fryer. But wouldn't ever consider air frying a steak!
I have the Breville and its actually killer for steaks because of the joule feature so you can put a steak in and itll do a hard air fry to brown then auto drop to 130/135, almost like a sousvide, to finish the cooking. Its actually pretty brilliant. Guga isnt gonna feature all that stuff here cause this is a sponsored video so yano…but highly recommend the Breville if you want an air fryer, countertop oven (that will fit a dutch oven), smart oven and dehydrator
This just shows that a well cooked steak requires a little love and intervention. The best crust has to be judged as it is forming. There is a right time to take them off the grill but you have to be there to catch it.
I appreciate the review but none of those high priced "gadgets" made a steak that I would pay for or serve to a guest in my home. I would be embarrassed to put any of them on a plate. I'm sure they are good for other things but none of them are worth the money in regard to steaks. Bottom line? People just need to learn to cook. Steaks especially are super simple and can make anybody look like a hero at dinner time with little effort.
We have the Breville at home it works like a charm. For a one inch salmon steak cook it on low broil for 7 minutes and then take it out put some teriyaki type sauce on top and then broil it on high for about 5 minutes to get the sauce nice and sticking on to the salmon.
Chef Maker hands down. How are you going to beat AI technology? I’ve had mine now for a week and I absolutely am amazed. I’ve tried and had all the others. No comparison.
I would love to BBQ all my steaks, but not a reality for me in the UK, I prefer a thick 2" steak, reverse sear method (USA, tend not to see this much in the UK), seasoned just like Guga, cooked to 135F internal, left to rest for 15 minutes whilst the pan is getting HOT!!!, get all my sides ready and then bang, get that bad boy in the pan for the crust build (3 minutes each side to get the crust/colour you want), this will not over cook the internal), no resting required and can be served straight away.. perfect Guga steak, cheers everybody 😊😊😊😊

Never tried an air fryer steak. If I don't use the charcoal grill, I'll use my cast iron pan. Would be interesting to compare the cooking time between the grill, pan, and air fryer.

It's interesting that the Dreo didn't get a crust on it. Sonny with ThatDudeCanCook has done a couple videos with it and it's definitely gotten a very close to perfect cook with a decent crust. I agree that it can't replace knowledge of how to actually cook, but it seems to do a really decent job for what it is. I'm definitely intrigued by it enough to consider a purchase.
@@hicksvillain9865 that makes sense as the heating element is on top like most air fryers. Definitely a good idea with the torch, though. I respect/liked that Guga kept it fair and treated them all the same.
Please compare air fryers to air fryers man. Wire heated mini-ovens are going to cook differently than air fryers, so please compare the functions properly.
I bought the Dreo Chefmaker during it's kickstarter based on your advert for it. It is an amazing piece of equipment. This year we used it to help with thanksgiving. We used it to cook a turkey breast and it came out so lovely and moist and tasty. I have used it to cook some other items as well and it hasn't disappointed yet. It's much better and more convenient than the previous air fryer I was using.
I got in on the early bird discount for the Chefmaker. It's not perfect, but it's a great product for the price. In my opinion, the one that could beat them all is the Anova Precision Oven, but it's practically twice the price and I don't have room for it.
I am trying to figure out what air fryer to get for steak. The skillet makes a huge mess and I am tired of the mess. Also, you have to use a cold steak in the air fryer to get a crust because it needs to stay in there for longer for a crust to form. And for it not to over cook it needs to be cold. How cold? depends on the air fryer.
I can understand the appeal of set it and forget it cookers like air fryers, but if you want a fast and tasty steak you cant beat a cast iron or copper bottomed skillet for one in a fraction of the time. 8 mins tops - resting time
Never judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree Guga... not all airfryers or ovens are built the same. Steak should have been cooked to all the same temperatures to give each of them a fighting chance.
Sounds like it wasn't the air fryer. Good to know all they needed was a good sear before going in. There only saving grace was counter top space saver as apposed to an oven. I'll take open flame and skill over tech all day.
air fryers should be used only to cook fries, pizza rolls and other finger foods. while steaks and burgers should be cook on in/on a grill and or cast-iron skillet. that's just my opinion.
Is the butter addition new to the Dreo? I feel it adds flavour, but I'm sure the crust was better when he first tested the Dreo and no butter was added. I'll hold the butter and add it after when I do a steak in mine for the first time.
Another great video Guga, thanks to you I got in on the Chefmaker kickstarter project and received mine as soon as promised. I am a big griller myself, but use the Chefmaker quite often. We live in a very diverse climate. I’ve gleaned a lot of great information about grilling and cooking from your channel. Thank you…
How can there be no bias when the video is sponsored by the winner. Also, them saying the Chefmaker steak is the most flavorful when they are seasoned exactly the same is a bunch of crap. Cmon Guga, don’t be bought…
I disagree, the cheaper (low Tech) old-school Air fryer with the round glass container bowl and top down halogen bulb heater + fan in the lid, smokes all of these with a great crust and flavor!
Doesnt seem really genuine, they were all talking about how crust isnt that important because this is the only "in your face" negative of sponsored product. Also way too many compliments for plain Guga steaks, which they usually recognize and say stuff like "cant go wrong with that, classic". Sussy
Day 12 of asking - IS MUMMY YUMMY, the experiment when you dry age a steak using mummification technologies to tell us - were the Victorian age people crazy geniuses or just plain crazy!!! (Disclaimer, we all know that if you fully dry age a steak to the maximum it won't taste good, please be sensible.)
Maybe I have airfryer blindness, but I had to keep going back to the start to figure out which steak they were trying was done in which fryer. I’m still kind of confused about what was what.
Scientifically it wasn’t fair to cook all the same time. Each machine works differently and temperature should have been measured.
yeah well, it's an ad so Guga wanted ChefMaker to come out the best
More like: ChefMaker paid to assure ChefMaker came out best.
It's also easy to say that now that you've seen the video. But if you were approaching this like him, it's reasonable to think the same time might work out. And then the question becomes is it worth wasting four more ribeyes...

I like how you are comparing a brand new airfryer to 3 small ovens. You should do a real comparison to other airfryers.
Can't really take anything guga said in this video seriously because it's sponsored
He already did that
yeah this entire video is just an extended ad.
An air fryer is just a small convection oven. What's the difference?
@@exmello well the primary difference is that Guga specifically said he was using the broil function on the other three steaks, did he not?

I think you should've used the wireless thermometer on each ...and cooked until each has the exact same core temp

Thank you…
Maybe they'll add a Guga steak mode?🤤
How can there be no bias when the video is sponsored by the winner. Also, them saying the Chefmaker steak is the most flavorful when they are seasoned exactly the same is a bunch of crap. Cmon Guga, don’t be bought…
damn 2k looks like mr.ballen with that hair and hat combo lol
I disagree, the cheaper (low Tech) old-school Air fryer with the round glass container bowl and top down halogen bulb heater + fan in the lid, smokes all of these with a great crust and flavor!
As I am about to enter a convalescent home my one dream is to eat a Guga steak
Veeeery long commercial.
Great acting on the judges 👍
Thx Guga for another great video. Btw I was able to get the deal you mentioned for Dreo ChefMaker. Amazing!
i missed my old air fryer
Do you think a sear or reverse sear would work good with an airfrier? If so i might just start cooking my steaks this way
Google please do a sous vide steak with white pepper instead of black pepper!

I’m really considering buying the Dreo… Do you recommend it… I live in an apartment building and can’t have a grill… ☹️
I got mine when it was in kickstarter, it's good for small portion, and it's hard to get double sided crust
Maybe I have airfryer blindness, but I had to keep going back to the start to figure out which steak they were trying was done in which fryer. I’m still kind of confused about what was what.
before video start, let me guess, Dreo wins?
