I’ve been racing Zwift all winter since November and I’m kind of done with it for a while. But while I’ve gotten better at it I’m still very much like you. I kill myself to try to stay with the front group and just don’t understand it. I don’t know how everyone around me is pulling less watts and crushing it while I’m way over threshold the whole time. Oh well, I made some fitness gains.
Yeah I guess the main thing to take away is the fitness gains but I can completely understand being done with it… I had the same thing with cyclocross in the winter after doing it every weekend for months on end I was a little glad when it finished! but it’s been good to just hit a couple of zwift races to get the hunger back for racing and hopefully one day I figure out how it works 😂
Burning matches left right and centre 🤣🤣 nearing the end of my trial period and pretty sure I'm getting a wattbike atom now, I have the bug! I definitely need to understand all the technical terms as no idea what a lot of them mean, your wattage is so high! I would be done in a couple mins at that level 😅
Burnt all my matches 😂 and mega I have a Wattbike it’s super convenient to just jump on and not have to set up the turbo etc but I would definitely be interested to try some of the other smart bikes to see how they compare as I have heard that others are better 🤷♂️
It's the same for me out the pen like a rocket 🚀 My Ftp says I'm B Group . But that can't be right because I have race at threshold and above hanging off the back . I never make the sprint because I'm to knackered. You can't race in C group because they say your a sand bagger. I certainly can't race at 300 watts for an hour ! I'm missing something somewhere 😕 unless there all on dope?
Yeah it’s a tough one and I think there is a bit of a skill to racing on zwift, which I certainly haven’t got or worked out yet 😂 I’m hoping with a bit of racing and practice something might click but I’m not hopeful 🤔 the sandbagging thing I just use it for a good training session if that means dropping down a cat to get a good session so be it… I don’t see the point in getting dropped in the first 2 minutes 🤷♂️
Two things that have helped me is learning how to sandbag by riding with the pace bot, Bowie. I can usually sit at around 2.8w/kg while he is doing 3.2. The other tip would be to watch Adam Zimmerman race on Zwift. I never realised how much you can freewheel on Zwift until I saw him race.
Thanks for the tips, I will definitely have to do a ride with the pace partner and get a bit better at sitting in. I have just subscribed to adams channel so will have a watch over the weekend and see how the proper zwifters do it 💪
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling def takes some getting used to, took about 20-30 races for me and I'm still perfecting it. If you wanna see how little you can get away with, check this vid out from 5:30 - 9 min: ua-cam.com/video/eWQkPfmSmTc/v-deo.html
Always try and sit behind the front guys, as soon as you get to the front you lose the draft. If you notice you're gaining on them then slightly ease up.....unless you're on a climb where there is hardly any draft gains to be had.
I honestly have no idea I just plugged it in and this was the setup I got… however I don’t see the gear if I’m doing a workout on zwift only in races and free rides
Is the Wattbike good? It’ll only be used for Zwift and will never cycle outside again due to eye condition. Want to lose weight and get fitter. Already use Zwift on home treadmill
Yes been really good for us easy to set up, reliable, connects easily to zwift and feels good 👌 I haven’t tested any others so nothing to compare it too but has been great so far!
Totally get this too! My mind says D, my ftp says C, ZwiftPower says B 🤷🏼♂️ Running at max for the full race and making zero inroads, same as you, running at a higher w/kg and getting slammed. Makes no sense. I also notice the C guy in your race only averaged 208W for the race and finished just behind you. 🤷🏼♂️
It all just blows my mind… I think there is a bit of skill to zwift and knowing how the game works etc 🤷♂️ I guess some people have mastered it but I certainly haven’t yet 😅 and god knows how the C rider kept up at 208w 🤯
Watts in the flats, W/kg in the climbs, and kg in the descents 😉 Those races are not always enjoyable in the moment but you push yourself a lot harder than alone & outside. Is it smart training ? Not so sure 😆 Nice effort anyway 👍
Now that makes sense, never thought of that I just always assume it’s w/kg The races are so good they hurt so much during but having something to chase massively helps and pushes me so much harder and you feel good after… well as long as I keep up 😂
Very entertaining but informative video, keep them coming.

Same boat. By all measures I should be a strong C maybe B but my experience is identical to yours.

😂 I think I need some of your power 😜

@@paulhamblett7791 don’t be silly… I’ve seen your zwift race results and power, you’re on another level 💪
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling haha…but your numbers are also very good!! And you are way punchier than me 😃💪💪
The back of the pack is the place to be on zwift, practice being comfortable there unless there's a hill, an attack, or a sprint finish.
Definitely something I need to work on… always feel like I’m getting dropped when I’m at the back 😅

It’s always super hard to judge one minute I feel like I’m being dropped next minute I’m flying to the front 😅 more practice needed!

Join a group of riders and do an 8 person ttt. You'll learn loads on how the draft works and where you can save energy!
Will give it a go 🙌
