yes exactly. You can even tell in interviews she’s not trying to sell it as something as immensely deep as melodrama. I think she knows its not what ppl wanted but grief requires you to put yourself first before others
I didn't like the album and it seems to have flopped both commercially and critically since most critics weren't too kind to it either. I only come back to like 2-3 songs and then directly go back to listening to the entirety of Melodrama 😭
If u want melodrama then go listen to melodrama.. yall keep expecting her to sing about heartbreak and teen angst when she's 25 and maturing.. so tired of yall
well, i really though lorde would at least still make songs like ribs or hard feelings since she said so, herself that “All my life I’ve been obsessed with adolescence, drunk on it. Even when I was little, I knew that teenagers sparkled. I knew they knew something children didn’t know, and adults ended up forgetting.”
I like Solar Power. Not one of the most mind blowing pop albums of the year but I appreciate how Lorde perfectly sets the theme, tone and mood for the whole listening experience. Whenever I want to lay back and feel the natural surroundings a little, this might be the go-to album :)
I agree with you. Solar Power is not an album that I'm gonna play every day, I just play it when im down or needs some spaces to be calm. It's not the best album, but I still appreciate her hardwork to make this album.
This is probably a super unpopular opinion but my biggest problem with the album was the vocal delivery. It's not that I don't think Lorde is a great singer (she is), but the vibe she was going for with this album seemed to be calm and meditative with super mellow (and sometimes repetitive) instrumentals, and because of that I think her voice should have been smoother and a lot less layered to have a soothing/angelic quality to it. It's a decent leave-in-while-doing-chores album, but imo it could have been a lot more simplistically beautiful with the right vocal delivery. Idk. Maybe this style just isn't suited to her voice, which is wonderful in its own right and really shines on less mellow songs that can show off her vocal versatility.
Part of the problem is Ella isn't a very dynamic vocalist. There's a reason why she's known for her low, gravely, whisper singing style. Girl just doesn't have the chops. Is she a brilliant writer? Sure. But she's had vocal lessons and still cant really sing
Stans need to be realistic. You like it? Fine. But it's not for everyone. I love it. But i understand why people don't like it and it's not the 8th wonder of the world.
mood rings, fallen fruit, secrets from a girl are the only standout songs in this album. You can't have 3 songs out of 11 as a check and call it a good album
I like how she fullfilled her intention of making a record where you could hear the sun in every song. But it's not half as good as pure heroine and melodrama, that's for sure.
I’m so obsessed with Solar Power, no matter the tone or theme she puts out, it feels like Lorde always puts her heart and soul into whatever she writes
I love her honest reactions, lol. I completely agree that this isn't for everyone, but just because critics and others didn't like it doesn't mean it flopped. To not have even release a new single or promote herself on social media for 3-4 years and then release SP and amass over 100M streams in only 2 months....that's not a flop, lol. Bad or not, she got us to listen and it stuck with some, and wasn't right for others.

The only reason why i think ppl didnt like it or understand it was becuz they havent yet come to that phase in life where u feel really spiritual about the calm and peaceful side of life but ppl keep saying that they wanna go back to melodrama cuz its something that u relate to yea but solar power is the album of healing and moving on. Not everyone will like it ig but sometimes yall have to experiment with stuff, can't stick to that same routine everytime, that would mean ur not allowing urself to develop as a person at all and thats sad. But if its not ur thing then thats ok, can't bash anyone for it.
Honestly I think I’m the only who loves the album, it’s quite relaxing & it seems so personal that’s why a lot of people don’t feel connected to it, there isn’t much complex writing, not sonically popular & doesn’t sound like anything she’s done before, but I love it, it’s about gratitude, being at ease, laying back your feelings & understand that growth isn’t always exciting, life isn’t 24/7 exciting and comes a time in our life when there’s nothing to exciting but it’s still good because there are no crippling problems and we’re just at peace for a while
I don't have a problem with slow paced songs. It's actually my cup of tea. I enjoyed listening to Evermore and Folklore even when it's a totally different genre that I'm used to with Taylor.
