Man Got sent to Middle East, saw friends die, nearly died himself several times. So he decides to retire and move with his wife to San Antonio. Spends a couple months living with her mother. after that time with his mother-in-law he decides the Middle East isn’t that bad. Either that or he decided he should not be scared of death.
I remember a super old black-and-white video about British mercenaries in Africa and one of them straight up said he was there to "get away from the lass and mother-in-law"
Intelligence Specialists here, I had relatives in Afghanistan, one was a Combat Engineer. I lived in a windowless building, he was out there before anyone else. I’m so grateful for his service.
Nick Irving is such a thoughtful, friendly, down to Earth guy, I could listen to him to talk for hours. He reminds me of some of my friends who went on tour.
Every sniper I’ve seen on a podcast they are all down to earth, humble, smart dudes. It think it just come with the territory of being in that particular field of service. You don’t just have some cowboy as your last line of defence. Similar to fighter pilots. They are all relatively the same person with very similar character traits. I think also when you are personally responsible for the deaths of people you don’t even know it gives these guys a perspective of life no one else really has.
Biggest thing I hear from Nick and those like him is that they are humble and that this was a job and not to be taken lightly. Taking lives takes its toll
I got a buddy that is in EOD, his wife still doesn’t know. Thinks he works on drones. I asked what if something happens, he said it’s no longer his problem🤦🏻♂️ Least Nick was straight forward with his wife.
Why does she need to know so she can worry and judge him? She has her secrets and he has his, Nothing she does will help with what is on his mind everyday only he can set himself free and want to keep his brain healthy and keep his mind right.
@ Exactly and a lot do which is also another level of danger. A lot of men are slaves to their wives and so scared of what they think 24/7 and can’t process the idea of give and take. One day they will learn it doesn’t benefit them to people please 24/7!
He said 40 mile in the mountains. I literally live in a mountainous area and believe me, 5 miles in the mountains is gonna wear you out more than 30 miles on flat ground.
@@l3ftie578That and temp change. You climb up 7 miles at a decent grade you could go down 25 30 degrees. Feels great when you’re dripping sweat to throw on winter gear I imagine.
@@stevehangzo7159 this is true, While I was still in the Marine Corps we did a couple 32k hikes, 20 miles, it wasn't that bad when we were walking flat, (its 20 miles with 80 lbs on your back everything hurts) but man I tell you we did a 12 mile ruck that involved lots of big hills and that was 100 times worse and it was 8 miles shorter 😂 that was ON pretty flat trails, I can't imagine having to go 40 with no trails and just boonies. the 32 k or 20 mile took just shy of 8 hours, that would be like 2 days without sleep for the 40 miles that way.

Nick you survived came home with all your body parts, highest respect for your accomplishments Thank You for your service. may god reward you with peace for the rest of your days.
God won’t be rewarding him with anything my friend. He needs to repent first. You can’t commit mass murder and then when you’re time comes stand in front of our lord and say “ I’m sorry lord I was told to do it by others “ it doesn’t work that way.
Dude, I can feel your pain, I was doing the same as you stationed in Columbus Ga, At the FOLLOW ME base, Fort Benning during the 80's and when I got out in 91 right before the first gulf war they tried to get me to stay and be the first to secretly deploy before they even publicly said they were going to send troops, equipment and a possible war and I declined, I was so ready to be done with it all and then finally telling my wife what I did and why I declined to re-enlist, she finally understood why I was the way I was, quiet and sometimes closed off, especially after coming back from a mission that the public knew nothing about, but I'm glad I made the choice.
When I was deployed to Bosnia in 1996 a sniper was brought into the forward camp I was at named Alicia for extra security the day before Hillary Clinton visited it. He was called The Reaper too. That was the only sniper there that day even though she said she flew into Tuzla Airfield under sniper fire.
His story he told from Afghanistan where bad guys were popping out of the grass and he was knocking them down and trying to exfil is absolutely bonkers. He's only told that story one time on the shawn ryan podcast
"My husband trains as an elite soldier" "OMG my husband has killed hundreds of people. How many did he kill with his hands?" [Stepmom's love intensifies]

It seems military contract work as far as work schedules go, is almost the same as working offshore in the oilfield industry. Four or six weeks on then two weeks off. Pay is also similar and jobs different thou.
People forget that Iraqi's love to party and at one point not long ago had almost an even split of Muslim & Christians. Coexistence of religions, relaxed clothing etc was completely normal....until...America & the UK decided to destroy the place. The picture we had painted on our TVs here was so vastly wrong
Yeah i know how you feel i was in norway for a training one time and the distance was around 14km it took like 18 hours to reach our rest over night it was very mental and the 45kg backpack wasn't making it easier either
What was the "other thing" he did for Triple Canopy?! That's what I want to know! I looked into contracting myself when I got out and Triple Canopy was the main company I was looking at. Blackwater was in so much legal sh!t at the time and was in the middle of their change over to US Training Center/Academi or whatever it is now, so Triple Canopy was the big go to company at the time. It was quite frustrating though because they were so vague about what exactly it was you would be contracting to do. They would use overly complicated and corporate sounding descriptions for what they do and loved to through out the word "solutions" in every sentence. All I wanted to know was would it be more like vip and corporate security, and escort type stuff, or would I be going right back into what I just got out of! Trying to get a straight forward answer to that was like pulling teeth! So I ended up going to Gunsmithing school instead and now I'm old, fat, and build finely crafted shooting Irons, lol!
