This is one of my favorite songs on the planet just because of the raw emotion you hear in his voice. That yell is fucking cazy, and I used to be a metal head.
@Fatgocks I hope you're being sarcastic. "YOUR LOVE IS HELL, YOUR LOVE IS HELL, YOUR LOVE IS HELL!!!!!!!" "WHY DO YOU COME AROUND ME?? WHY DO YOU CLIMB INTO MY FUCKING TREE???!!!!!" Groovy wedding tune , dude.
I think the somewhat “over produced” nature of the studio version saps the power this song has. Live versions have always had so much power behind them. The studio cut has barely a fraction of the bite any live version has
This is why i love all dave matthews bands live albums, they never play a song exactly the same twice. One of the rare bands where thier live performance is way better then thier studio stuff.
I would say they're better live than everything they've put out since Under the Table and Dreaming, but those first few albums are some of the best albums I've ever heard. Just perfection and amazing production on every song. When they came out with the album with Grey Street and Everyday on it (the name of the album is eluding me) they had lost that spark. Still love em but the cds arent as good anymore. The music itself is still amazing live though
I was at the show, and being the greedy little pig I was I was a little disappointed in the set list so far. It's fucking Sunday at the Gorge, it's dmb, on Sunday, they go out with a bang goddammit. After they finish with The Space Between (My least favorite song), I was perturbed, fuck these guys they're mailing it in.. Then... They play Seek Up (My favorite song) and the rest of the set is the best ever. Best encore. Sweetest Long Black Veil with just Dave n Roi. Fucking Halloween after a 3 year absence. Everyone shit themselves after they realized it was Halloween. Damn that was a long time ago, what a fucking memory.
Yeah but this is why he doesn't sound as decent as he could these days unfortunately. If he had learned some proper vocal techniques for this song, his vocal stamina would be so much better today. What a banger though
@@SammyMakepeace He's getting old, without any vocal assistance program behind the scene, there is no way a man on his 50's could sing the way he did at his prime.
What a find and precious memory! I had a drum solo sign all weekend and finally night 3 Carter points at me and shakes his head, then goes into an amazing drum solo > Halloween, then stands up and tosses me the stick he used!!!! I can also see myself with the bright orange glowstick 😀
One of the absolute best out touring.. they all are so skilled at their respected instrument. Boyd on the electric violin.. such a professional group. Not enough appreciation for the level of excellence they uphold.
Ezra Berry As I’m sure you know, Boyd is no longer with the band. In my opinion his absence is definitely felt in their sound live. He brought even more energy to crowd with his solos. He needs to be replaced in my opinion.
@grgemclr1992 I have to agree. Its a dark song admittedly, but the energy that courses through the place when this song goes off is godly. They played it for the encore on the third night at the gorge recently. I had the pleasure of letting DMB pound my soul into nothing with the pure energy they summoned with this song. Fucking unbelievable
among drummers, Beauford is very highly regarded as one of the smoothest and most natural players ever. personally, he is one of my favorites not only because he's an incredible drummer, but also that he looks like hes having the the most fun he's ever had, every time.
@ Preston Smith - WTF are you talking about? lt's only the lighting and the angle of that particular shot @ 2:14 that are different, but that's *definitely* Carter playing 100% and no one else.
@grgemclr1992 thanks a lot for that great answer. yeah i was at that show to. i was there the whole weekend. my favorite night was actually night two. but night three was a very very close second.
What year was this? Tryna figure if it was one of the years I was there! ☺️ Best concert venue/experience of my life!! The Gorge is effing gorgeous! So. Many. Stars. Whatever year I was there, I saw them in Portland a few days before too. ♥️
@IWantDaveKast For me it's because Halloween is a song with such strong, raw, pure emotion. I know people who have gone to around 15 shows and have still never seen Halloween. I was lucky enough to see it the first time I saw dave, even though I had been a fan for a long time, and I knew all of his music, live and studio, so I didn't lose my appreciation for it's rarity and emotion. It was at Bader Field this summer, the whole place went crazy after the Ants fake
I've been to a few DMB shows before and noticed the same thing. It's usually when Dave does a scream or a yell while he holds a note, people go nuts for it.
this is during the encore..so sometimes not the whole band will play songs..most the time dave will just do a solo then the rest of the band will come out to finish the show...you can see the rest of the band join the 3 after the song
I feel like people don;t even realize how metal this song is
YES! I know right
So true
Yes, I've tried to get bands of mine to cover it, but they don't understand
Agreed. People won't accept it because of Dave's voice. This song is as metal as you can get with an acoustic rhythm guitar.
So good
This version of Halloween can not be topped. Fucking hell. It's so good.
I'm back a year later. Its still fucking amazing.
I come here instead of the album because this version is better
personlly like the MGM version but this one is still really heavy
The John Paul Jones version great too
Dave and Tim Live at Luther College would like a word
This is one of my favorite songs on the planet just because of the raw emotion you hear in his voice. That yell is fucking cazy, and I used to be a metal head.
There's still time to be a metal head again
His voice, the despair and desperation is so, so amazing
Carter Beauford is easily the most underrated drummer of all time. He deserves a place among the best
Among? He’s the big tree in the woods and everyone with half a brain knows this
Agreed
DMB has A hard rock song l love it
He has one...he's literally ra ked top 10 all time lol
@@briantaylor5932they have more than 1
This is gonna be my wedding song.
How’d it go brother!? 💕

A stripped-down version somehow having MORE power. Love re-living this!! Minds collectively blown.
I think the somewhat “over produced” nature of the studio version saps the power this song has. Live versions have always had so much power behind them. The studio cut has barely a fraction of the bite any live version has
You really don’t grow to appreciate songs like this as much until you’re able to relate
Relentless did somebody take your soul???😳
changes the lyrics to this song almost every time he sings it. love it!!
This is why i love all dave matthews bands live albums, they never play a song exactly the same twice. One of the rare bands where thier live performance is way better then thier studio stuff.

Of course thats just my opinion, to each his own
D Woodard not the same album. Busted stuff and everyday. Both great albums tho!!
Best live band I've ever seen.
Daves devilish smile tells you.. its about to go down!
holy crap. i have watched this video so many times and never really noticed that there are only three of them there. wow.
i was THERE for this, it was the comeback of Halloween, hasnt been played in forever... the energy was EPIC, freakin loved it!!!
I was at the show, and being the greedy little pig I was I was a little disappointed in the set list so far. It's fucking Sunday at the Gorge, it's dmb, on Sunday, they go out with a bang goddammit. Chris Sobkowiak I would kill to have been there!! This is hands down the best version of Halloween!!
I wanted to like that comment but I would’ve changed it from 41 to 42 and that’s sacrilegious
@@DoctorGonzo41 why did they stop playing it to begin with ?
@@MissMaddieWren Because it was too emotional of a song for Dave to play apparently. Its about him and his ex girlfriend.
Love is hell... Dave proposed x3 and she said no! Surprised he could talk after this performance. PASSION!
Great song!!By top notch musicians and top notch equipment. These guys are one of the greatest bands ever
I love how there's only Carter, Dave, and Stefan.
There's something about this version that others (2021) just don't have. Dave's raw emotion is captured perfectly here.
Yeah but this is why he doesn't sound as decent as he could these days unfortunately. If he had learned some proper vocal techniques for this song, his vocal stamina would be so much better today. What a banger though

idc this is 1 of the best Halloween performances
I prefer the one from Recently but this song is the one and only Halloween song that is for sure.
Agreed
One of his greatest songs. The emotion is riveting
I was there for this show. All three nights. Best song of a perfect weekend.
What a find and precious memory! I had a drum solo sign all weekend and finally night 3 Carter points at me and shakes his head, then goes into an amazing drum solo > Halloween, then stands up and tosses me the stick he used!!!!

2021 I'm still listening to this!
This gets my blood flowing!!!
Haha, I didn't realize mine was going a bit quicker until I read your comment.
The tone on the base is so badass.
I feel like the bassist is underrated. He is an absolute beast.
One of the best drummers ever Danny Carrey tim Alexander Neil Peart and this guy he's sick
@Patrick Brewer well, up there for me sure
Respect TOOL and Rush!!!!
My absolute favorite version of the song! I love when Dave goes into his “spaz” mode!
“Why then, why then, ‘cuz you’re a little FUCK!” . . .
That line kills me every damn time 💀
Dude, they played this song in their last concert of 2010 in Charlottesville..... my ears are still ringing it was so LOUD.
when i watch this...i just smile.
i always thought that this is the most Primus D.M.B could get in a song. F*n love it!
Carter's drum skills are so underrated

My absolute favorite Dave Matthews song
It never Hass to be the same or even close to the perfect
so I am a drummer and my friends sister got carters damn glove one night at a DMB concert I was furious lmao
DMB has A hard rock song l love it
What's the point? I will never write anything this fucking epic ... Christ ...
Love the Last Stop Tease that prompts the crowd chant.
I am convinced that Carter has a third arm somewhere.
That is the best comment I’ve Hurd yet lmao
He’s been drumming since he was 3 what do you expect 😂
Just like Danny Carey
I love how carter stops his solo then goes into the song. Very bone chilling. XD!
My favorite Carter solo intro to Halloween.
Damn that had to be one of the most intense performances I've seen.
Thanks for this upload. Awesome version, and my God, Dave's voice is just amazing.
@grgemclr1992 I have to agree. Its a dark song admittedly, but the energy that courses through the place when this song goes off is godly. Best damn performance of this song by far!! And still best performance of any band today

How is Carter underrated? Who is rating, and who is above him?
I think hes talking about their newest live CD "Live in Atlantic City 2011" when they did Halloween with an Ants Marching teese at the beginning.

best drum solo of all time (the original at least)
My fav dmb song, but I’m confused why Boyd’s violin part isn’t here
This was an encore. This was an improve decision by Dave to play Halloween and he thought it would be cool if it were just him, Carter, and Stefan.
osure27 it is cool. But to me the violin parts are so important for this cut!
Ironically this was posted on Halloween
perhaps someday someone will be able to explain to me why dmb fans feel the inexplicable need to form a chorus of applause during every song
we are just so fucking excited to be hearing him live man
Because they’re the fucking shit! If you don’t get it I don’t know what to tell you.
You said it, KB'sCreations!
I've been to a few DMB shows before and noticed the same thing. It's usually when Dave does a scream or a yell while he holds a note, people go nuts for it.

Carter for President!

@valsoldier03 The look he has reminds me more of the look of having loads of fun.
2:19-2:36 is how you groove!

Yup
Happy Halloween!
