I haven’t listened to this song in about 15 years and I just listened to it again this morning and it is just as lovely, or more lovely than it ever was then. Such a positive and timeless message. It’s just really nice, and I still struggle to find a more comforting and sweet voice as Dave Matthews has.
This song is amazing!! One of my favorites from Dave. Have seen Dave 47 times. Unfortunately they will never be the same after the loss of thier "quiet" leader, Leroi. He wrote and worked on the songs with Dave. Miss his influence.
Wow, I'd like to know how much an influence Roi had in the writing process, like whose ideas in the studio carried along the vocal melodies the most and the different turns in a song. A big part of Dave's success was his unique song structures. He probably won't match again what they created between 1992-2008.
I need to write some of those lyrics down on a post-it and stick it to my wall. I've known this song since it came out. It only took 20 years for me to truly understand and appreciate its message.
I thought the same thing. "Wash out this tired notion that the best is yet to come. While we are dancing on the ground, why think of life when we are gone"
I was at this show. Dave at the Gorge is amazing. I was going to type more, but the limit is 430 characters, and that isn't enough to tell you what it is like seeing Dave at the Gorge. (or anywhere really, but the Gorge is something special)
Great song! Great lyrics especially!! I've seen them about 7 or 8 times since "Before These Crowded Streets" came out. That includes seeing them 3 times on that tour, and I've never seen them play this song OR Halloween! And they played both songs at this show!! It just hasn't been my time yet. Yeah, that's it. I've never seen them play "The Dreaming Tree" either.
Yeah. Wish politicians were more in line with the spirit of this song. The statements expressed here by Dave are applicable today. The populace needs to shake up things… within themselves, to free themselves from the propaganda from both sides.
why concern when we cannot see, still there's no good reason to abandon it, our time is short but that’s all right maybe I’ll go out in the middle of the night

Moving from Seattle to missouri, one of the things I will miss most is the Gorge.

Erin Groce I think he's trying to tell us something.
Completely agree, best version of Pig ever!
"What if a great wave should come and wash us all away...just thinking out loud" love the lyrics. Been a fan sine 97
Best Pig ever.. the best is yet to come.
First time I heard this song I went and bought the album right afterwards,
Is the band of our generation!

This version is called dont burn the pig which now turned into the modern day pig...fantastic song
No it's just an alternate name for the song
I cried
All good things must end, so don't throw the day away... Don't burn the pig! Raising a glass of "Everyday" (no pun intended) to that :-)
DMB and The Gorge is always a good combination..
I know somone is going to do it.. but it's amazing there are ZERO dislikes.
Good job Dave
I can't find this on iTunes :( this is the only version I like
Carter in the pocket as always my hero(:
I don’t know if you saw the Carter Beauford drum tutorial, from 96 where he does a couple of songs from the Crash Album. Sick how on time he is.
inspiring

@fabioo24 Carter is probably my favorite drummer to date. Such a beast!
Yeah, this so much better than the studio version.
I am a fk pig.. and I love it..
@Ballzpdr the version on before these crowded streets is a poor excuse for music compared to this
Roi 3
