Well, as he said, make a new email for every relay so he used it for couple minutes

still is
It’s actually exposed when he scrolls down at 19:12
The third onion relay node doesn't encrypt your data, basically the exit node which can be vector for de-anonymization attacks.
@@urbanistiq8009unless you connect something to you
@@urbanistiq8009 well if by any chance, you connect to the entry and exit nodes that are controlled by the same guy, that could potentially led to your identity get disclosed if the guy looks closely to the network traffic going in and out.
Https encrypts the data in the exit node. It's no longer 2009 :)

Please check your local laws and regulation about running an Onion relay. In some legislation, you *will* be held responsible for *all* traffic going through your node. You really don't want that, unless you have legal protections.
My legal protection is called "Mossberg Pump Action".
Yes . Packet should use multiple roads and seem to come from different sources. But it would break ip principle. Does tor do that?
@@constantinehunter1322 I believe that is called murder.

I now have one running on my RP3, RP Zero and on a VPS Chuck. The Tor Network is an amazing thing and I love it. Thanks for showing us how to set it up.
18:51 probably want to blur the email the whole time 😅
Unfortunately, participating in something like this is not an option for the millions of people living where greedy companies like Comcast have a regional monopoly and set limits on monthly home broadband data. I never thought home broadband would have data limits, but I am also not a greedy jerk.
Hopefully the new movement on net neutrality and classifying ISPs as common carriers is going to do a bit to alleviate this.
I like how the government covers these industry dickheads by letting them lobby its so sickening.
@@ilovestitchthe problem is that both presidential candidates have friends in organizations that gain to benefit from these scummy plans, you'd need someone in office whos a Maxime Bernier anti establishment people first type, but they all get ousted as racist antivaxxers, theyll never get their chance in office, unless someone like Louis Rossman runs for office, theres little hope for the west with stuff like this. Thanks to you, finally started my own tor relay in the cloud ❤
I was thinking about doing this yesterday and today you uploaded this. Nice.
Your editor did a 'great' job of hiding that email from 19:50 onwards...
Never ran an exit node. One of my pi was set up years ago, and to this day, I would use a proxy setting on the web browser on one of the lan nodes to connect thru the pi to go to tor. Now you can just install the tor browser. Thanks for showing people how to set up tor nodes.
I also have one running.
It''s a Fast Guard, been Running Stable for a year and this is a Valid reaction.
I like the way you present things together.👌
My friend you’re really amazing, truly you improved my career with these information.
Thank you.
As a rule I don't trust the "cloud" but I set this up anyway lol. Thanks for the always great energy and content Chuck!
We thank you for contributing to the cause
I thank you for your sacrifice.
that comic was dope man! probably the most creative ad-read ever! Good Stuff Chuck
Using TOR or running a node/relay is not the same as using the dark web. I use TOR when I want to visit regular sites, but I don't necessarily want to share the information my regular browser provides. For example, links from potential scammers or geo-blocked links.
:3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 Fellow Jewish brother, Daniel Radcliffe, the Harry Potter actor. Also, thankfully, JK Rowling is pro-Israel.
Yes, you can route it all via Proxychains, etc.
As i understand it, theres the regular internet, with google and such, and the uncensored internet, with onion sites and such. If you know where youre going in the latter you can get anywhere. But its more obscure and therefore "darker". I could be completely wrong though, im just repeating something i heard a few months back and i do not claim to have any idea about the internet, that is a rabbit hole in computing i would rather stay away from
@VinceAggrippino yes, obviously, but the point of the video, and the reason why "The Dark Web needs you!" is because there are a lot of Whistleblowers, Journalists, and People in Countries that are being censured by their governments that depend on using the Dark Web to get information out into the world... so every Relay is needed to help with this.
Brother we want to do business with you.kindly let me know where to contact you.
One note at 17:11 mark, you can't really name it anything you want if you want everything to work. I found that if you use a nickname with a hyphen in it, then nyx won't be able to connect to tor.
this vid makes me want to do something that i was always afraid to do....didn't realize how ok ISPs are with hosting an onion
thanks
Chuck, thanks for producing your videos. I certainly have lauched a Tor node
bro I Am addicted to your videos and want to learn more. But unfortunately I have my sem exams coming up and after a month iam gonna come back here and absorb your channel.
I setup a tor relay, and this is the coolest thing I have done so far.
Setup a Exit node😮
Thank you for the insight. :)
Thanks for reminding me to eat some popcorn. I've been having a crap day today. I needed that little boost
I love your content but recommending a TOR node via the cloud is comical
why?
@@DroisKargva because you can't trust someone else's computer, and the cloud is just someone else's computer.
@@DroisKargva I know some bridges include some cloud servers from oracle.
But you don't really want that because simply said a company like oracle. Will straight up hand over the data to GOV's that ask for it.
So if you, or someone else has a target on there back. They can just ask the companies for all data that went trough the node.
If a node is for example run in Germany, swis, denmark. Whatever privately.
Those Gov's can ask you for the data (they most likely won't to begin with), but the person who set up the node can just simply decline.
Because the Gov has no legal right to take it in those countries.
thank guys@@Kiritomens
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!

I got brought into a company as a consultant, sat at my new desk and what should I find under the keyboard but a postit with the login AND password on it from the previous occupant.
I was already buddies with the security admin who sat across the walkway from me so I handed it to him to secure the account.
Than I went back and cleaned up the works space and found 2 more from different people, one at the bottom of a drawer and the other under the monitor.
Ridiculous to be seeing that in 2017.
You're the only person who saved my future thank you so much
you are a very inspiring guy.

Please please please do a video on docker containers and port forwarding on a raspberry pi or old laptop. Docker networking especially for this would be great, and maybe a cronjob to launch on boot so the pi can just be plugged in without a display and just run and update on schedule. Please and thank you!
Tor is so important for journalistic integrity and human rights protestors / reporters.
Docker container can be started with an --restart flag which allows container do start on boot. If u using docker-compose u can use "restart: always" in the docker compose file.
Do you happen to have any experience with running a mystnode? Had on my laptop, having trouble running same node on my new 🖥️ ❤how you break things down
Great session 💯
Doesn't "AccountingMax" in the torrc file limit total throughput in one direction? So, you should put 500GB for a 1TB maximum total throughput?
My man made a full comic for dashlane respect 👍
Your comic book for the video is awesome
(video is good too)
Great video Chuck
Def gonna try setting up a Relay. I love the tor network 😇
Wow I normally hate adds but this add was amazing, even rewatched it, you shoudl make adds for tv
hi i just subscribed and i wa nt to say i realy love and apreciate your videos
Thanks for this. Is there a way to have a RPi or other small computer with a small screen display something like nyx for your relay(s)?
you can just connect any HDMI display to it. There are some little ones or even cases with one for the PIs :D
Hey man, how did you get those photos so similar to echother in dalle 3? 😂
I can never seem to make similar fotos, let alone a whole story
Very informative and interesting.
Great you are back
I would like to address one mistake here @networkchuck made in this tutorial.
This is for beginners who i am assuming, going to follow this tutorial step by step as it is.
While mentioning the distro version or its codename, do it carefully.
As per this video, he mistakenly used "bookworm" as codename here on ubuntu 23.04.
"Bookworm" is codename of Debian 12 & and the correct codename for ubuntu 23.04 is "Lunar" (I don't know how he missed paying attention to this even after running apt update command couple of times, "lunar" flashed on screen multiple times. Still somewhere "bookworm" struck in his mind. Throughout the video).
Try to avoid this mistake which may lead you to a broken installation .
He wasn't saying it was bookworm. Just that he thought it might be. Smart users skills take away the important information "use the most current distro"
Beginner running a TOR relay...
He says the Debian version if your running Ubuntu @ 14:52 seems pretty deliberate to me
Ubuntu is a port of Dabian it's ported from Bookworm/sid based on his version command
cat /etc/os-release and look for VERSION_CODENAME is usually what i do
Is it possible to follow these steps and then before enabling and starting tor adding the torrc and keys from a prior relay?
I can't remember the last time I've been so entertained by an ad.
is it alright if i downloded the TOR from chrome before doing the other steps?
i had to ask this because I basically didn't understand anything you did in the first 4 steps(up to which I've watched so far)
That story was brilliant!
I only say they where happy with my 4000mb/s up and down speed. Loving this. ❤
I'd suggest looking at the blurring for your tor mail again..
Chuck, that thumbnail is beautiful. Props
Is there some way to deploy this via docker? I found a 4 year old image with relay and nyx, but it's deprecated, and dont get eny updates. Docker makes it so much easier to install. Also would't be snowflake pretty much the same?
This guide fails on both Ubuntu 22.04.3 and Linux Mint 21.2 fresh installs to a mini PC. Both reach unmet dependencies trying to install tor, and fail with "impossible situation" errors. Tor won't install. The key in Debian 12 isn't available, so that fails too.
Furthermore, the Tor project pages encourage BSD usage for network diversity, but the links to the pages with instructions on how to set them up are blank! Iff Tor wants people to join in, they need to put in some more work, perhaps just cracking the whip on package maintainers in each distribution. Or someone needs to come out with a pre-configured ISO with proper repositories, ready for use after slight tweaks for preferences.
I love watching your videos as a person who is aspiring ethical hacker. Also your editing of the videos is dope
Popcorn, coffee, and beef jerky is the best combo ever you must try it Chuck
That was very enjoyable video but could someone tell me what is the benefit to do tor relay else then make me suspicious for my gov 🙂?
Bro that thumbnail is hilarious lmfaoooo i love it, great vid keep it up
"Thank you for the exciting videos that you make. I just set up my first Tor relay on a Proxmox container and other services, thanks to your videos. I wish you the best."

Chuck should be running the Cisco company. I cannot do this, I get this as I ran Tor before but I do NOT need a DMCA complaint I have too many haha. Good video.

Hey Network truck man I've been wanting to write you for a really long time and you're a huge inspiration to me I'm really just starting to get into networking and coding man and your videos have been like it's okay it's like this I'm slightly autistic and I just I've never done one in school and your videos do shit for me that I just can't explain man and I just really wanted to personally say thank you I hope you get this comment I'd love to know that you did my friends call me Moon I'm pursuing the CompTIA and the CCNA but it's going to take me awhile man I'm just now getting into docker the only I'm kind of in a bad situation not a lot of money so I'm really all I got is a Galaxy A3 but I got andronix and I got Pyroide 3 and I'm learning it

Currently at 20:00 (20 minutes) the contact you wanted to be unknown is legible aka uncensured. I zhink you might want to change that. As far as i'm aware, this is possible in the youtube editor. This way you don't need to do a ReUpload
This all is starting to make sense now
Hey NC, just wanted you to know that you might wanna change your relay contact. You might wanna watch the video and then re-upload

I read Snowdens book recently which was a related eye opener to how Tor is used and came about. Thanks for the info Chuck its helpful

Hi, i would find a poll interesting:
ctrl+x,y vs ctrl+s,ctrl+x for closing nano. nice videos btw :D
ctrl+o to save, then ctrl+x to exit.
ctrl+x,y saves and closes the file in one go.. I use this key combination all the time when using Nano.
One word - "Snowflake" - an extension that lets you share bandwidth for a Snowflake bridge over the Tor network. Nothing to set up other than installing the extension and helps the community.
this is awesome. just wanted to ask if I'm going to get paid on this?
Just awesome video i learn lots of new cool technology

Ummm I hope I’m not the only one wondering if you are going to put together a tutorial on how you prompted Dall-e 3 to create that art work
I get internet dropouts similar to a DDOS attack in the evening running Tor... I don't know if it is the number of connections from the Tor network or just the router/Modem can't handle it... I can't run a Tor relay without a solution to this problem
Modem 2.5Gb > Router 2.5Gb > Proxmox Server Physical 1Gb > Virtual Machine running Debian Server (Pi-hole as DHCP and DNS Server. Tor Relay)
I loved the ad Chuck
I don't think anyone spends this much time on sponsors lmao
@NetworkChuck I thought that silk road was brought down since TOR is not really as secure as we all would like to think?
It’s my understanding that the Silk Road was brought down due to OpSec leaks, not TOR leaks. I’ve been known to be wrong from time to time though.
Is there going to be any problem if i use the tor browser without setting up the relay??!
so if im hosting, can i see the activity that goes on in my node? like i could report any illegal activity if i saw
it?
Hey at 19:52 you can see your "email" for the router... Not sure how else to tell you cause there is no contact info
