Hi Vera, what an amazing shoot! Love your work and you are my inspiration. I have a quick question, why do you use the beauty dish on the back? What is the purpose of it? Isn't the parabolic light enough for the beauty shot in such a small space? My studio is also at home, and I find that sometimes with I use two lights, it washes out my background. I do use flags and negative fill too to correct it and prevent from spilling onto the subject. Just wondering...Thanks for everything you teach us.
Hey, of course the parabolic is enough. Heck, even a natural window light is enough. But i had a vision for this shoot and I needed two lights for it to be as I wanted it. The beauty dish was on low power and created additional highlights and filled the shadows on model’s left side. Of course it wasn’t necessary for the closeup shots, but it didn’t hurt ;) If you find your background to be washed out often, push the light back further from your subject or use smaller modifier if you use only one light. If you use two or more, you need to make sure they’re on lower power than your main light and really acting as a fill only rather than lighting up the whole scene.
