Hello everyone, it's me, TheWaggishAmerican, finally breaking my hiatus with my 1/48th scale Tamiya Mitsubishi J2M3 full build (and partially timelapse) video.
Sickness got in the way of my recording so this is again not voiced, but I the rest of this batch of videos should be.
Big thanks to @rebelsatcloudnine for pointing me in the right direction on the paint scheme.
Shout-outs as well to the Iwata USA and Tamiya USA people. Despite having no proof of my year of purchase and no receipt in general, they did an inspection, deep clean, regrease, etc of my airbrush and then shipped it back to me all at no charge. Fantastic customer service. Tamiya was unrelated, but I had two issues with missing or broken parts this year and in both instances they quickly and without charge got me sorted, even when one of those mistakes was entirely my own fault. - Авто та транспорт
Obviously as per usual that calendar is shot and no longer relevant at all. I really need to stop promising these things unless videos are READY to go.

Nice job on that kit. (I have 2 of them in the stash as well as 2 Hasegawa versions!) Quite a neat looking little plane, that only saw limited service in quite limited numbers, later in the war. BTW "Raiden" translates from Japanese as "Thunderbolt"... My current Big project is the Hasegawa 1/32 Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai, (Also a IJN fighter, but land based only) which, compared to most Japanese fighters, was a Huge fighter, almost the size of a P-47 Thunderbolt. Look up the "Battle of the Inland Sea" in early 1945, where a US Carrier Group air wing ran into a wing of them ( The 343rd Naval Wing, Founded and Commanded by Minoru Genda)... the Hellcats and Corsairs had their butts handed to them on a plate. 54 US planes lost in all, and only 19 Shiden Kai's and 1 Saiun recon plane, used as a sentry, shot down. The next day a Japanese Counter attack put the fleet carrier USS Benjamin Franklin out of the war, and repairs proved uneconomic so she was scrapped. This was the last clear victory over the US military the Japanese would have.
LOVE the cockpit and the details in there, the weathering looks so awesome! Nice thing about this kit is that the canopy parts are so clear you can still see and appreciate all that detail. I also really love the Hinomaru with the white borders, they are always my favourite, and just look so good on Japanese subjects. Wonderful build TWA, I've had a smaller Hasegawa kit on the shelf for too long, I think I ought to build it now :)
White boarders are def a plus... although nothing beats the white home air defense squares in my eyes. Still need to redo my ki44 with those bad boys...

I ought to finish some of my builds, I think I have 3 currently in progress.... a very old and VERY gap prone Revell 1/32 F-15C, a also very gap prone monogram B-17G 1/48, and lastly a 1/48 eduard Albatross D.II.

I view the brandon thing as a particularly insidious version of the fixation on "owning the libs" above all else, where lib-owning is itself the goal. meanwhile the "owned lib" is busy taking over every facet of political, social, and monetary control while the "right" adopts a line used by the media to hide the original and actually 'problematic' sentiment.
Divorced of the meme itself I also dont like it because I dont really care. Frankly, whatever your theory regarding the election is, it is too late. Biden could walk out on stage tomorrow and admit that all the theories are true and he lost in a landslide and nothing would happen short of having a slightly more difficult reelection which I think they are just going to give to harris anyway. Im going to try to build a bubble canopy version of a J2M3. I've read that there 2 built as a J2M6 or J2M7. I read in an old airplane book that I had back in the late 70s that there was a proposed bubble canopy version of the Raiden that resembled the Zero canopy.
Another nice build. Ive subscribed to your channel and find your work an inspiration! Hey what about building a pre-war biplane like the Hawker Fury. I'm just getting started on watching all your projects so if you have done some pre-war stuff great! Yes and so glad your feeling better so you can get back to your passion!
I have an F3F coming out [eventually]. I'm not opposed to early war stuff, and there are a few german ones I'd like to do (Galland's polish and condor birds mainly). My biggest concern is the flying wires. I'd need to get a much nicer pair of tweezers and a bunch of photoetch eyelets and maybe a magnifying headset before I gave any of them a shot. I'm only getting away with the F3F because the kit includes PE flying wires lol.

I just started this exact kit. I see you painted the cockpit green. The instructions call for the Anoki (sp?), which is correct?
All the color pics Ive seen online and most other peoples builds have been green.
I saw the production video of Raiden.
Zero Fighter is too famous for Imperial aircraft during the Greater East Asia War,
There were also other excellent fighters, including "Raiden".
The BGM of the video, is it Chinese music in the middle?
But in the end, I was impressed by the songs of that time, such as "Gunkan March".
It may have been chinese, I don't really know. I haven't had much luck finding copyright-free *specifically* japanese background music for when the wartime music is not playing, so I typically just use generic "asian" background music.
Hello, could you please tell me which green and yellow color you used? I have that kit and I am pretty new to modelling. thank's
Green was custom. AS-17 is good to reference, XF13, XF26, XF61 can be close. Yellow was custom - mostly Tamiya XF3 Yellow, with like one drop of red in the paint cup, and then I stirred with the same toothpick I used to get the one drop. It's all by eye.
What tone of green you used in the interior? Just got myself this kit.

Nice built. Actually I'm building this bird in 1/32 and the fit of all parts is great!
But: why are you making only one seatbelt for the right shoulder? Where is the one for the left? This is not a car! You need a minimum of 4, better 5 for all the G-forces...
Because many jaoanese aircraft didnt have two over-the-shoulder. Every resin replacement for this seat has a single rear seatbelt. I believe that the multiple-point is on the worn harness, which has a large ring in the back into which the single strap connects.
I do wish I had centered it more though, and it is wayyyy too long.

J2m3 is a great example of why I stopped assuming belt layouts and atctually found references. Between single, y, twin independent, H, none, and others, different aircraft and nations secured pilots in notably different way.
Thank you for your answer. That was new for me. All planes I know or I' ve flied had 4 or 5 seat belts.
Sorry .....now I got images of a kamikaze pilot jumping into his zero and shouting to the ground crew " oy , there's no seat belt or safety harness In here !!"
I wish I could get ahold of this old kit at my local shop but it's out everywhere and the distributor is out too. Very nice kit, even for its age!
Ive also had trouble getting Tamiya stuff recently. My LHS hasnt got a new shipment of paints in months, let alone kits. Having to order stuff from Taiwan and wait a month just to get my clear coats.

Yeah I'm on a tight budget , so anything around the 15--20 Is about my limit , but I'm happy doing these budget 1/48 so far as they fit so well, have nice details and ain't as fiddly as a 1/72 , but not as complex as 1/32 lol will see how I get on in the future when my skills have improved a bit !
