Tamiya 1/48
The Tamiya kit doesn’t have too many details, the wings had recessed panel lines and the fuselage halves had raised details, so I had to re-scribe them. The canopy was a single piece, so I divided it into sections, but the main part was damaged, so I did one from a clear plastic pack where the cheese comes from, heating it up enough to deform and giving the shape I needed.
The cockpit’s pretty flat, in order to improve it, I had to scratch build many details as the instrument panel, some levers inside the cockpit, details on the cockpit floor, walls and the radio behind the pilot seat.
I also riveted the whole model to give another level of detail, the Hinomaru’s were masked and painted on the wings and the sides of the fuselage, the kit itself fits pretty decently for being a mold from 1973.
Overall, an easy, cheap and fun kit with lots of room for improvements 😉

Love this aircraft it is beautiful and chunky at the same time . Wales UK.
Glad to see you're posting again man, I hope to see more from you in the future! It's nice to have another modeller on UA-cam!
Thanks! I am preparing a Tamiya P-47 I built a while back, It will be uploaded soon
Great build. However the Hinomaru was never chipped. Japanese army regulation stated the emperors symbol shall remain pure and flawless. Many times they were repainted every few days.
Excellent job!
Great Work!
I guess this Tamiya kit is the only
Option in 1/48 scale out there
Hasegawa has a really nice Raiden in 1/48 scale too, more expensive, but it's a superior kit in terms of interior and exterior details. Really worth it.
Exceptional build. As I'm about to start one, I have a question about the cockpit colour. You used the Allied "Cockpit Green", is this correct as I had thought that IJ aircraft had a much brighter, almost emerald green glaze applied over the bare aluminium - just from the period and museum images I've seen.
Nice build, what aftermarket cockpit did you use?
Extra super 100%
What was the liquid you made the chipping effects with?
👍👍👍👍👍
i'm sure you passed on some good info, but the music was so obnoxious that I muted the video.
