i’ve been debating on going to art school but doubting my skills, your videos help me gain skills and confidence that i can learn anything with a great teacher!
Phenomenal tutorials! I have honestly learned a lot from you for watching for just a short time. I was an art major turned animator in college 20 years ago and I have learned more about color usage, transferring and how to even observe the layers of an artpiece from just a short time from the way you have described the process. Thank you man!
I decided to try this out because I really want to learn how to paint and I'm tired of seeing artists with their custom brush sets and feeling like I need those brushes to do good painting. This video is the epitome of absolute skill and talent, you're amazing, thank you so much for this step-by-step tutorial and all your other tutorials! Mine didn't turn out quite as nicely as yours, but that's to be expected! I would never have been able to do it if not for this tutorial though, so you definitely help a lot! Also thank you so much for the patreon link to downloading the swatches/palette! I get extreme anxiety whenever I try to type a value in because I'll have to keep checking if it's exactly right, so thank you for the time and lifesaver link. I know this was long but just one tiny feedback! It's really misleading seeing the saturated colours from your camera compared to the actual work, may I know why is it you don't just record from the screen itself? It's not a big deal but it does make me feel like I'm not doing the right thing when I see that your colours are so much more saturated
Is it me or does anyone else have the feeling that this guy is the Bob Ross of the digital era? 🤣 But for real you are very impressive, love your drawings and your relaxing voice guiding through the tutorial. Keep it up man! 👌🏼🌄
Just bought iPad Pro and loaded procreate and found you. Love your work and your not too fast speaking while showing how to use this amazing app. Would love a couple of simple lessons using a few layers to get comfortable with using this app using gradients perhaps a simple flower?
I am a beginner at digital art, but it is perfect for me partly due to lack of space, and your tutorials are ideal for what l would like to achieve so thanks :)
This was a little tough for me. Im still learning how to use procreate as well. Im still very new to painting with it. Hopefully ill get better. This painting looks beautiful
Just so you know, there's a reference feature on procreate that means you can zoom in while being able to see your full canvas. You can turn it on in the canvas section. It might help so you can zoom in sometimes while still showing us the full image. (btw loved this video! It really helped me figure out how to create lighting!)
Thank you, I know about the function, the reason I don’t zoom in is because I go for the effect over the details. If I went for a heavy level of detail it’d take me 2/3 times longer lol 😂
This was great, thank you! I normally draw in more of a simple cartoon style but have been wanting to try realism and these tutorials are so helpful. In particular I liked in this one that we used one brush as it simplifies things a lot and shows how to achieve the look with one tool (which I didn’t know was possible!)
Great Tutorial, thanks! I am just getting starting with procreate and noticed I do not have the add a layer or pencil option in Gaussian blur or bloom. Did they remove that in more recent updates? Thanks!
Am curious how you create the specific color palette. Are you using a photo reference? Have you rehearsed this composition prior to making the video? I am new to digital art and Procreate. I need more understanding of basic tools, but never the less find your videos compelling.
I usually use photos to grab the colours and a sense of the image, but I don’t copy completely and I never practice in advance…though I probably should!
I love your tutorials. You always begin by showing the iPad against some beautiful scape worth painting as if you had snapped a photo . But I would like to see you paint over you paint over the photo to achieve a painting of the photo. Could you do that sometime? Thanks. Tom T
Love all your videos, keep up the good work! Can you make a Tutorial on how other can make their own ProCreate UA-cam Channels, and get successful. It might not be a drawing tutorial but I’m sure other who want to do ProCreate tutorials would want to know how to create a UA-cam channel, and create content to a viewer. Maybe spend a video or couple videos or start a series on this.
I don't understand. I'm using the same brush, the same canvas and the same colors and when i do the gradient it doesn't go smooth like yours, i see pixelization. How can i make the gradient smooth as yours??
Can you please tell me, what I have to do, what settings, to set opacity and size with the pencil as you do? I can't do it so direct as you. Maybe you have it already in a video? Thanks and have great day.
@@JamesJulier-Artist OMG, I'm sorry. Yes of course you do, as always. I was so f... ing frustrated, that it came out totally wrong. So sorry. What I really meant was, I can't get the opacity / size sliders to work properly with the apple pencil the way you can. There is always a lag. Especially when want to get to like 5 or 2 percent at the opacity slider. Already changed the pencil nip. Still the same. Sorry to bother you. Thanks for all.
Hi, I hope you can answer this, i know this video is a year old now, I tried following your tutorial but i realised i dont have the same brush as you? Soft brush isnt in the airbrush library i can only see soft blend. Have you any idea why?
I'm Japanese. You're my most respected painter. I always watch your video!
Thank you so much 😊
I am Chinese and he is my favorite digital artist too!
If an artist can do a whole painting with a single brush, that right there is called extreme talent
By the way he is the digital bob ross

Transcendental and massively emotive. Will be reviewing these techniques a number of times!
Art speaks where words are unable to explain
I agree, although a talk a lot too lol

Clouds and trees are my favourite things to draw 😍 I‘m far behind but this is definitely the next one I’ll try. Thank you, James.

Great tutorial, thanks James.

Looks so fun and beautiful 🤩 You have made procreate less intimidating 😊
Happy to help and thank you 😊
It looks so simple but tough!
Thank you for everything!

There is a few videos on this topic already, try watching some
Saved this video as a reference for when I start experimenting with painting skies/clouds. Really awesome.
Respect from an artist to another!
This was my first time ever painting with the Procreate app ngl. I almost gave up in the middle of it but I pushed through and ended up loving it.
I’m really glad you pushed through, I think that’s what makes a successful artist 😊🙏
Can’t wait to give this a go tonight 😍

The background gradient is pixelated on mine too but you don’t see it at the end as it’s covered over by the rest.

Thanks for the great tutorials, how come my colors looks much darker than yours?
My camera tends to over saturate the colours which is why I provide the codes
Great tutorial - although there is no file attached for the colour palettes in the link provided.
Whoops! I correct it now thank you
Sorted you should find it there now 🙏
How do you pick and create color palettes?
It’s usually based from a selection of photos
Please anyone can tell me how to download the colour platte.
Why when I use my top soft airbrush it is huge at 25% I have reset it, I have to turn it down to 3% to get the same
Hey! Are you British? And if so, which part of the UK are u from?
Born and raised in Manchester, but live in Yorkshire now.
Ah ok, I did notice a bit of a Manchester accent, greetings from Swindon!
About how long does it take you to do one of these paintings?
Usually an hour maybe a little over
@@JamesJulier-Artist Thank you!
No worries
Do you practice these before you record?
No never lol
Well you’re a natural teacher then! I just wish I didn’t have to pause so much haha
Yeah sorry they are quite detailed lol
It’s a shame the focal point on your camera was on your fingertips rather than the work
