- We urge you: don’t skip the marinade step-it really gives the shrimp lots of garlicky flavor and sets this apart from other scampi recipes.

ABOUT BON APPÉTIT
Bon Appétit is a highly opinionated food brand that wants everyone to love cooking and eating as much as we do. We believe in seasonal produce, properly salted pasta water, and developing recipes that anyone can make at home. - Навчання та стиль
Why is every BA chef so freaking likable. Sure the videos are super informative and teach you how to cook somewhat complicated stuff, but at least 50% of the fun are the hosts
BA is basically the polar opposite of Eater.
THEY ARE! I want to be friends with everyone on their team.
edit: It seems like these people love making food for the taste and art rather than the novelty *cough*Tasty*cough*
SpikeReynolds I agree! This lady is so extra but the perfect amount of extra someone can be.. Lol love ba!
It's why my favorite food personality has long been Alton Brown. It's not just a straight recipe, it's cooking, educational and fun all at the same time. All the people at BA really bring that same sense of enthusiasm.
SpikeReynolds They don't put the unlikable ones on UA-cam. I'm joking, it seems like the whole staff is awesome.
the recent trend of not being afraid of showing outtakes and talking about mess ups makes me feel better about how much I mess up in the kitchen haha
A T same
its really more about how you handle the mistakes and make the best out of it.
A T honestly
at first I thought the gourmet series was kinda dumb... like why would I want to learn something that is so industrialized made but through watching Claire adjusts, I just learn so much of how to hypothesize about what went wrong and find ways to adjust.
No one was ever really afraid to show their mistakes. But many of these shows are ran by people used to TV snd they're just wasn't time to show mistakes. As younger people without tv experience started showing mistakes, the experienced people soon followed.
I love how she brought up the cooking wine thing, in the wise words of Chef John: if a recipe calls for a cup of wine, you're stuck with the rest of the bottle at dinner, so get something drinkable
And as always, enjoy🎶
Words I live by: IF you can't drink it, DON'T cook with it.
@@spockmcoyissmart961 If you won't put it into your mouth to drink, why put it in your mouth to eat??
@@frankfreeman8721 ya, that's pretty much what I'm sayin'
The only time I use wine to cook is when I recieve undrinkable wine.
I love how they didn’t edit out her mistake. Everyone makes mistakes. Even great chefs
It just makes the videos longer hence wastes time. Some people don’t watch for entertainment. If it were taken out, most people would be none the wiser.
@@elephantgrass631 it helps those that might make the same mistake ?
@@dm5331 The mistake of putting butter too early? That's not a common mistake. And besides, she redid the take. They could have left it out making the video shorter, or they could have put more detail on something that was right. In the world of UA-cam, you don't have long, so give people more value for their time.
@@elephantgrass631 seeing someone who is an expert make mistakes is a very empowering thing to see, it helps people who are learning understand that they can mess up the thing they are cooking and still rescue the meal. There are plenty of other cooks on UA-cam doing things perfectly in 5 minutes or less!
@@MrAlexanderGoff You're right, you've changed my mind. We should never edit any video footage ever. Show all the mistakes so we all learn what not to do. I don't mine watching 7 hour cooking videos on how to make pasta because no one wants to edit in the name of sharing mistakes.
I really appreciate BA showing the mistake it makes me feel better about my cooking
Brisa Castro you need to see ppls mistakes to be ok with yours? You have issues
Navyforeveryoung Jean-Philippe YIKES YOU REACHIN SIS
"Olive oil isn't free"
*Instantly has to dump it in the trash*
😂
Maybe she could of poured it over pasta, and used it as a side dish. Waste not, want not😌
@@coolabah-blue
And that pasta should have been Angel Hair!
I would have just added the wine after the mistake with the butter... it really doesn't make much of a difference (although I could well be wrong... it's been known to happen). But I can understand her dumping it... after all, she's demoing a recipe and how it should be prepared. Julia Child could work with happy accidents, but ther rest of us, meh.
Bill Daniels could the butter have burned if it was in too long? That’s my thought on that but idk
“Just garlic and butter braaaa”😂😂😂
Beauty4 Ashes129 I died
I’m so glad someone finally explained what sauce breaking means 😭
This video should be called, "Carla Gives Absolutely Zero Fucks."
I'm pretty sure that's every Carla video
Wutsizface 😂
HoboMan 😂
@montanadoctor Get out of your safe zone every once in awhile
Wutsizface, Watch your language. This is a conservative cooking channel.
Just garlic and oil, bruh.
Brah* haha
are you really called music? amazing!
Yeh, Wine isn't necessary.
Wine is always necessary.
@2k GoDsZ PREACH!
“All good recipes begin with butter and garlic.” Totally agreed. 🤣
cake ? apple pie ? cinnamon rolls ? ummm... let me think about that ... ; /
I’ve never seen this girl before, I absolutely love her energy and personality!
I love Carla! If I had to choose one person from the kitchen who I would love to learn from irl it would be her.
Acacia I like her and Brad a lot but she was a little scary with the Wayans brother 😀, but hard to judge from one edited video.
To be honest that just kinda makes me like her more.
I think she's the best instructor (aside from the Wayans one). I'd like to eat Brad's food (I love ferments). I would like to eat lunch with Claire and ask Chris profound questions about the art and science of cooking. I would like to tell Andy to stop sticking his butt in the camera!! Lol. He's always bending over on the opposite counter with his butt facing the camera.
I agree. That looks like the best Shrimp Scampi ever! She's Awesome 👍
This is why she’s the one who usually does Back to Back
I like it when they explain things, like when she had to add a little water.
Can you use broth (to make more sauce) instead of water?? And throw a little parsley on top too!!☺️🙌😋
HISIAM888RUHIS888 Broth and Stock are good alternatives but Water is more natural and doesn’t add unnecessary flavors, the point of this dish was that the Butter and Garlic are the stars of the show, so adding vegetable stock or something like that would contrast the flavor
I freaking love her!! She’s my favorite cook on the show and I always recreate her dishes they’re so good
Carla's openness in a bestie friendliness multiplies every recipe she shares with us!
Aw man, I made shrimp scampi last week, looked for a video recipe from you guys, and couldn't find one! I guess I'll just have to revisit it this week.... :)
scampi is actually the name of the specific type of crustacean, which is similar to but not the same as shrimp. it's the italian name, whereas the latin would be Nephrops Norvegicus. fun fact: scampi are called that because they have a tendency to escape (which is understandable on their part tbh). from the italian "scappare" (to escape) and more specifically the venetian equivalent "scampar".
source: im italian (and wikipedia for the latin)
moscardo not _scappare_ but _scampare_ , is the Italian verb you are looking for.
No need to refer to the Venetian language in this case.
mi ero dimenticata che è un verbo italiano corretto, mi pareva fosse solo dialettale! grazie della correzione.
moscardo di nulla! Figurati, per così poco :)
Pasta parmeggiano pizza napolitana formaggio a la dolce gusto... God I want to learn Italian.
I think its funny you say that its based on their tendency to escape and when she was transferring them out of the cooking pan she said "oh one escaped"
THANK you for the water trick!!! I've had some separating emulsions before and I didn't know what to do about it
“Just butter and garlic bra” this happens to me almost every time i cook lol
*"Angel hair pasta is the devil."* How ironic! 😈
She lost me at that statement.
Lindsay Daly you're the pro at getting top comment on BA posts. One of the Big Boys :)
Angel hair is my favorite pasta! The thinner the better. Maybe I should try eating hair, brb. (what don't you like about it?)
A thick, creamy carbonara with angel hair pasta is the flippin' best. The huge amount of surface area makes it soak up so much sauce and turns the dish into a lovely flaverbomb of umami.
Lindsay Daly angel hair is terrible! I cooked it once (and yes I cooked it right) and it was like eating stringy mush.
Between listening to the Bon Appetit foodcast on my way to work and watching these videos every day, I feel like Carla's my best bud and I want only the best for Carla
Angela didn’t know they had a podcast, it’s in queue now thanks!
Same.
@@Sandyyyyyyyyyy where'd you find it
THERE'S A BON APPETIT FOODCAST?????? I really need to investigate the life of podcasts lol
I've made this twice now and it was fantastic both times. Carla, you rock!
Love the way you express yourself. Nice work!

The editing here is absolutely perfect. I bought a subscription to the magazine because of how well this UA-cam channel is managed!
Lol this comment has not aged well.
@@ghlibisk67 😔
@@ghlibisk67 literally what I was going to say
I re watch this every time I make shrimp scampi and finally printed the recipe lol
Carla you’re like the perfect person I want by side cooking in the kitchen like an aunt that’s your best friend or the amazing mother in law everyone should have😩🙌🏼❤️
Love watching Carla cook. You Rock!!
So, it could be called "shrimp shrimp" or "scampi scampi" I don't care - I am here for the sauce! (thanks for the water tip! I am in my 70s and have been cooking wrong all of my life!)
Scampi is a larger shrimpish beastie, sort of inbetween a shrimp and a lobster, and is found in the Adriatic. So, she's kind of right when she says it's "in the style of Scampi".
More Carla
Carla Music ♥️♥️♥️
Carla! Blessed 🙏 I legitimately want to cook together and drinks glass of wine with her.
Michael Hoang ikr!!! She's so chill and down-to-earth! She was the reason I started eating real food instead of instant noodles
Claire*
ChickenNuggets everything about her is amazing! Her name is Music!! What could be better 😅
Been coming back to this youtube recipe for years
i love you soo much Carla! you bring a smile on my face everyday... you are always having fun spreading positivity and it just make me wanna cook with you haha.
Scampi is a species of lobster also known as langoustine. In the UK it is traditionally breaded and deep-fried then served with tartar sauce, chips (chunky fries) and lemon. Scampi in the US uses this species too but is served in garlic butter and french wine; Shrimp Scampi uses shrimp instead of Scampi/Langoustine.
Watching Too Hot Tamales is one of the greatest memories I have of my mom! She completely coveted their pastel chef coats!!! 😂 Also thank you all for including the 2nd take, it helps to know that BA professionals are just like us sometimes 😉
Never heard of the Hot Tamales!!
I loved this because it was easy to follow and you weren't afraid to show the mistakes which made the tutorial stick a little better in my mind. Thanks!
*looks from smaller bowl to bigger bowl* “I feel like everything can go into here?” *confused look* “Oh!” *side smirks at camera*
Had me rooooooooolling 😂
I love watching Carla cook! It’s like I’m just at home listening and watching my mom cook a delicious meal ❤️
more like gorgeous girlfirend
The dudebro bit was too much, I love it
I LOVE how real this channel is. I love seeing the mistakes and I love seeing the trial and error when attempting to make gourmet versions of food
I come back for this recipe so often. Can't get enough of it!
i love carla she’s hands down the best host
Moke Banana out.
That tip at the end was incredibly valuable! Thank you so much!
The overall episode was great too; the tip about water at the end is priceless.
the videos with you (Carla) keep getting better. keep keeping the jokes/mistakes/out-takes. Claire got me watching BA, but Carla keeps me coming back!!
This recipe was incredible! Thanks Carla
I loved watching Two Hot Tamales! You nailed Susan's accent! 🤗
i love how no-nonsense carla is. i love all the hosts tbh, but claire, andy, carla, and brad are my faves
No love for molly?
I just love how you guys show the mistakes
I honestly love the way they don't edit mistakes out it sets them apart completely from other shows🙌🏼
I can't wait to make this! Looks sooooo good
Loved, loved, LOVED the shout-out to the Too Hot Tamales.
Made this tonight - it was awesome!! Thanks Carla
Thanks for the chemistry lesson about adding water and why.
I appreciate when I know someone who being great in what he does, acts and looks ordinary and careless.
Confession time?
Sometimes I just make scampi sauce to eat with bread.
Das Dovian that’s the best way to do it
Made this tonight (not following exact measurements) with pasta and spinach and it was SO. GOOD. Thanks Carla and Bon Appetit
😳 I’m totally making this on Saturday for my mom and sister. Thank you, 🙂
Real cooks make mistakes. Thanks for the teachable moments, Carla!
You shoulda done Carla makes carlamari, huge opportunity missed
That was a Great dish, I just made it for my wife and I, she loved it. I will say my Italian grandparents would have loved it too if they were still with us today.
Tried it, loved it, got compliments . Thanks😁
"Meant for eating with friends"
Then eats all by herself! I love Carla! ❤
crew gets scraps! :D
NOW THAT'S WHAT I AM GOING TO HAVE FOR DINNER. THANK YOU
carla's technique is now MINE - the best for this....i do it often now....and just keep the 1/2 cooked shrimp around....the grated garlic is a super tip....thanks for this and cheers
I really enjoy watching Carla cook!
That angel hair pasta line alone deserved my like on this video 😂
love her personality. In general, great chef, great host, ABSURDLY attractive.
This is the one of the only recipes I can make with any confidence besides the very basics like rice and pasta; thank you
Carla, one of the best scampi i have ever had! Easy peasy!, Thanks
"Just garlic and oil, brah"
Love Carla!
That guy at the beginning looks like Bobby Burns' brother
I've watched this video 5 times. I love that you kept the misstep -- it helps reinforce the correct process.
As usual, a pleasure watching you work!
that's a real nice kitchen you guys got going on there, recently found your channel loving it so far. thanks a lot.
fun fact, Scampi in Italian are indeed little lobster like things also known as langoustines
Langoustine shrimp. Kinda like "chai tea", meaning "tea tea"
whooooaaaaa
I've never heard someone say they dislike angel hair pasta in my entire life until now
but she is correct though.
@@SuperFreeEducation In your opinion. :D
Jay how dare she shade my favorite pasta 🍝.
It’s awwwful lol
@@dessiehurley2517 It's beyond awful - it turns into a big glob, with zero flavor and is almost always overcooked given how thin it is. There is _always_ a better choice that can be made for pasta, always.
Loved this video! One of my favorite dishes.
I actually learned something in this video. Thank you 🙏🏽
Finally, someone had to say it but it's true - Angel Hair Pasta is the Devil.
it's one of my favorite pastas -_-
nooO! it's the perfect pasta. it cooks in like, 3 minutes and it's so easy to shovel in your mouth with your favorite sauce, and you can eat more cause it's so much thinner. what's not to love?!?!
Seriously it's pretty gross
True. The texture is pretty weird.
Angel Hair pasta IS the devil, on a line.
Only thing worse is wheat pasta.
Your fettucini alfredo was spectacular... so I think I'm goin' out and buyin' some shrimp today. :-D
Loved it and your delivery.
Tried it today! The flavors were so finger licking good. Definitely making it again.
"Angel hair pasta is the devil." Haha, I love this woman!
I'm pretty much making everything I watched you make when I get home from being deployed.
I love you Carla! This recipe makes my mouth water.
The water trick was amazing. Thanks you have saved my sauces of the future!!
"Its only 4 cloves of garlic" 😂
Angelhair and pappardelle are my two fave pastas. (spaghettini in a pinch)
I just tried this recipe and it is by far the best version I ever made. Perfect scampi!
I appreciate as well showing the mistakes. Embrace the imperfections!!!! That’s what makes cooking so much fun. You made me smile. I will be making shrimp scampi tonight!
Ya know... I have never disagreed with literally anything I have seen in any if these videos, but HOW DARE YOU SOIL THE GOOD NAME OF ANGEL HAIR PASTA!!!!! It is my all time favorite pasta. 😤😤😤
When I made this, that bro scene actually happened.
Carla - great video.
I'm making this tomorrow night.
I'll keep water on hand just in case.
Thank you again.
Mmmmm.... so making this this weekend! thank you 🥰
Yay Carla
I peep the Commes des Garcons
Just cooked with pasta also added cream so delicious! Thank You so much! :)
I really appreciate how they showed what could commonly go wrong, and how to easily fix it
I really do enjoy her small talks, kinda miss her and the old settings 🤧
*Carlaaaaa!! Please be my mom.*
Gave this a shot weekend before last and it came out great. Keep rockin BA!
