I love long lists like this one. When people make shorter lits of 10 or 5 games, for example, we keep seeing the same titles pop up. With a longer list we can find out about hidden gems that we wouldn't otherwise know about. 👍🏻
For sure! Thanks for watching!
A blessed fifty minutes of roguelite coverage?! Thank you!
Being a bit of a Binding of Isaac veteran I almost wrote off Neon Abyss, as it copies many of Isaac's mechanics and item abilities, but after playing it for dozens of hours I've become hooked. It's a game that slowly opens up, but it really starts to shine when you unlock more content.
Thanks for sharing
You deserve WAY more views for your hard work and quality videos !
I appreciate that! Help share the channel!
The launch version of Risk of Rain 2 managed to fix my biggest issue with the original game, where runs with the same character all felt pretty much identical, and so I ended up adding another 110 hours onto the mere 20 that I had when I dropped it during Early Access. And as a result it placed within my top 3 favorite games that I played in 2020.
I also played about 30 hours of Stoneshard, and I’m looking forward to seeing how that game turns out later on in development.
Nice! Doh! Forgot about Stoneshard! Great game
"Year of the deck-building-rouge-like games"
XD
*rogue
Is what sells well today.
I am so addicted to them. No exaggeration, but I have spent more than 200 hours on them so far.
@@R3DwolferHD it's funny and cooler than normal "journal" video format xD
I never delved in the rogue-lite genre before but after seeing this, I'm now quite compelled to try a few of these out! Great Job on the list Clemmy!
Please do! Some of my favorite games are rogue-lites!
You are the best channel that does this, you share details about the games that shows genuine appreciation for them, and you consistently find hidden gems that are awesome despite having no metacritic reviews.
Super Cyborg is the most recent example, it brought me back to the original Contra in a way that not even its direct NES sequel Super C managed to do! I wouldn’t have even known about it except for you, and I wouldn’t have picked it up without your recommendation. BTW, I was amazed that my well-practiced skills beating Contra on one life translated 35 years later, amazing what the brain retains!

I love rogue-lites ,thanks for doing this video m8.
No problem 👍 I Love them too so it was my pleasure!
That's pure gold! Thank you for your dedication!
My pleasure!
As a game collector, your channel is golden! thanks bro
I appreciate that!
Ahh I’ve been waiting for this video. Great list - going to be wishlisting a lot here.
Nice, cheers for doing that!
Shiren the Wanderers, it's time to play again.
and a lots of another great games to add in my collection, thank you for the list Clemmy, it will great if you do the same like this with another genre
There's this! ua-cam.com/video/NqnD1B2OFiI/v-deo.html
Super comprehensive list, thank you!
You're very welcome!
Although I don't think this is can be in the list, but "Slasher's Keep" is an awesome rogue-lite/like that I like very much.
Wow really? How no one spoke of this game for me? Looks great! Thank you for the recommendation.
I see Zagreus pop up and instantly just say "well this one needs no introduction" and then you basically said the same thing 2 seconds later xD
XD Exactly!
Cool stuff! Thanks for putting this together :)
My pleasure!
Wow! Fantastic video! Must've taken ages haha
Damn near killed me this one XD
Absolutely the list I need. Thank you so much
Wonderful! You're welcome!
Arboria is one of my favorites of this list, in terms of wanting it to succeed. I can't whole heartedly say it's "there" yet, but I want it it to get "there" and see the bones of "there" in what they're doing. I can't quite recommend people spending money on it as it is, but in that Patreon "I wish this genre/thing had more support" kind of way, if it's your jam I'd say go for it.
So many new titles and good sequels... 2020 itself sucks, but for roguelikes, it was one of the most important year for the genre. Thank you for combining everything in one video. Please pin an additional comment there for the list of more good roguelikes if they didn't have a place in the video. I think many fans of the genre will thank you for that to make this video a good source of knowledge :)
Cheers, thanks for watching!
Thanks for these videos, I really enjoy them.
I would love to see a breakdown for Steam platforms in the future. Being a mac gamer I have to check each game to see if it's available on my platform.
Thanks again :)
Cheers & thanks for the feedback
Awesome list as always ❤
Thank you! 😁
I can already see next year’s video: 2021 The Year of the Metroidvania.
There have been a number!
In general indie games, especially rogue lite games are now being much better and more fun and amusing games then lots of AAA titles...
I can't remember if I watched this already or not, clicked on it by accident. I dont' recognize the thumbnail, and it starts with metal unit, which I never even played yet. I got it from humble monthly, and heard it wasn't officially released yet, so decided to wait. That said I just love it when a gamer actually knows the difference between roguelike and roguelite, I say this as someone who likes both and has no issue with people who like either.
Narrowed down to just 52. You must be a god.
I got in on legends of keepers early and the game is really addicting. I love it.
Hell yeah. Good game
Great list of titles, I found me some interesting new ones even after having played plenty.
Nice! Happy tp be of service!
Thanks bro, great video
No problem 👍
ah yes, God bless you Clemmy!
hope you doing well too in 2021
Thanks! So-so for 2021 so far ;)
Glad to see Ratropolis here. This game has been my jam lately and is really quite good.
Love it! Nice!
I've been calling 2020 the "Year of the Rogue-lite" as well haha - it's definitely a genre I shied away from before last year
Plenty to catch up on then! ua-cam.com/video/81MxFFAowjA/v-deo.html
This video HAD to be this long. Genre is so diverse and heterogeneous, it`s impossible to give it justice with a short video.
Amen to that
That's because anything with random levels or permadeath and ladder skill progression is being called "rogue-like" now. I don't even know if it's proper to call it a genre anymore, as any RPG, platformer, or whatever can be called a "rogue-like" or "rogue-lite" if it has some of those elements.
Flipping excellent list my dude. Is there any chance of you adding some of these collections as steam curator lists so I can more efficiently give my wallet an aneurysm?
for sure! Should really get around to updating my curator page more frequently
I've grown to like roguelikes. Some are sloppy, but some are very well made. They're all worth looking into. I want something that's like Metroid/Dark Souls/Castlevania.
Yep they do differ in quality but all have something interesting!
Great content :)
Any chance of you in future videos putting the current Steam rating (if on Steam) somewhere for each game that's out? Would just help people know which ones are worth checking out.
I've already inherently gone through them so you can trust my suggestions! 😉
Why would you need the Steam rating to judge a game's quality?
Ohhhh I am late again.
Hey Clemmy. Could you tell me the difference of Rogue-Like and Rogue-Lite?
People have their own definitions. The original Rogue had a tremendous amount of options and modern Roguelikes like Caves of Qud allow uncountable playstyles. Rogue-lites usually feature 1)Procedural generation and 2) Upgrades after you die, a system not in the original Rogue
Honestly, I'm with you on Neon Abyss. It should have been a favorite, but something about the difficulty curve just threw me every time. Fun to watch streamers play, though.
put it on easy mode.
Skul is so fun man. I bought it and Neon Abyss the same week. I haven't gone back to Neon Abyss at all, but I still go back to Skul
Nice, Skul is great!
Incredible video !!!!!
Thanks!
My favorite genre had a great year, SO many good games: Risk of Rain 2 and Monster Train have worked their way into my Top 5 all time favorites. Curse of the Dead Gods & Hades (despite some issues with replayability, it's still a masterpiece) are Top 10. Gunfire Reborn, Sccourgebringer, and Noita are *amazing* games too. I Dracula:Genesis, Undermine, RoboQuest, The Dungeon Beneath, Griftlands, and Meteorfall: Krumit's Tale are all very good as well, maybe not quite on the level of the previous games but still waay above average.
I haven't even tried Spelunky 2 or Rogue Legacy 2 yet. A lot of the others have been on my wishlist for a while too. Wow, what a year.
Noita is my game of the year haha
Monster Train *Chef's Kiss
Try One Step From Eden if you want one of the most unique roguelites. It's inspired by Megaman Battle Network, but beware, it is very hard until you get the hang of it. One of my favorite games of all time, let alone Roguelites. So fun, hard, and addicting all at the same time. It's just so good in every way.
@@tanavast7337 I played ~6 hours of OSFE when it released and I just did not enjoy it. I can absolutely see why people love it and it has such a passionate fan base, but it's just not the game for me.
@@tanavast7337 SO DIFFICULT
2020 was a rogue-like year
It was!
which game is the one in the thumbnail ? (maybe i'm just blind and it was shown in the video) Oh and by the way, great job ^^
Skul the hero slayer
@@ClemmyGames Oooh, thanks XD
the reason neon light didnt stick with ya is bcs there wasnt any impact feel from your input (of shooting the enemies)
Huh! that might be it!
year of the rogue lite? yeah, that’s what I remember about 2020 also. 💀
Ty for the video
Welcome!
Roguelikes are great! Too bad there are so many games on this list in early access, I'll look forward to them in the future when/if they are fully released. Thanks for the amazing video!
A number should hit that in 2021!
Yes indeed! :)
Surprised that you left Othercide out - that game is fantastic and highly underrated
Oo yeah, must have slipped my mind
I'm less than halfway through this video and there's already dozen games catching my eye.
A rogue-lite fan then! Hello!
@@ClemmyGames Yes indeed!
Enter the Gungeon and Hades got me into the genre, and so far loved most of the ones I've played. Your videos have been great for catching up on some of the gems I've missed. Thank you!
@@fromundaman Check out the links in the pinned comment for more!
Holly hell clemmy! That's one hell of a list.
Took a LOT of time to get this one! Cheers!
Will scourge bringer have a physical copy in North America?
I have 10 hours in Lost Potato. The best games are the smaller games that use ingenious concepts and twists on mechanics. 2 games like this coming up are Skull Chainz and Heck Deck.
Yes! Underrated!
Não consigo diferencia um Rogue-Like de um Rogue-Lite? Belo vídeo, amigo!
LIKES are though turn based, grid based stuff, while everything else is more or less LITE (Platformers, deckbuilders, autobattlers etc)
nice list, nicely ordered video/timestamps
Thanks!
Jesus I own most of these games, it was indeed the Roguelike year. My personal top 3 goes as follows:
1) Shiren the Wanderer
2) Hades
3) Atomicrops
I’m looking for a good phone game, dungeon crawler or rogue lite or both
Thank you for yr hard work clemmy, but I need these in my switch badly, they need my monies
Thanks, some of these are on switch!
I love your videos, but I don't play any of these games or types of games. Would it be possible (or interesting to you) to do a video highlighting games for folks who've never played these types. For example, you often highlight "Metrovania" type games, obviously named for the original game. But what is an entry-level title into this genre? Thanks for the entertaining videos supporting the Indie community.
Entry level Metroidvania...honestly maybe just play Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night. Or Guacamelee.
Might have something in the works that may be of interest 😉
I actually liked Stoneshard, the dev are working hard on features and improvements. Do try that if you have not.
Good game!
Hah, great video. Just finished Timespinner which honestly was a bit of a huge letdown (with good graphics), Metal Unit looks amazing. Recommend me some of the best games in here guys.
Yea game is terrible.
@@trickycheat3570 not to mention the "story" finished both endings to see if there was something, somewhere, but nada. Shame cause the hraphics were good, and I followed it back in the day. I really wanted it to be good, but eh...
Valdis on the other hand, is great.
You guys didn't like Timespinner? Huh. I loved playing it on Vita. If you played on PC, maybe it was a game better suited to handheld? In fact, I would say it was one of my 5 favorite Vita games of 2018 (next to Iconoclasts, Muv Luv, Chasm & Fast Striker).
thank you!!!
You're welcome!
@@ClemmyGames just wanna say I wish you the best, you are doing god's work, I found lots of new games because of you ❤
@@Camakiriam Much apprecaited!
This list alone can jolt the time needed to clear backlogged games to near infinity lol
Tends to happen with rogue-lites XD
Let's play Risk of Rain2. I'm learning but it would great to play with someobody that could eexplain a few things here and there.
Thanks for such a list, but i feel sorry for Gonner 2, nobody talks about the game and i think it's a very good roguelike.
I no dot know if this year its the pinacle of the genre, but the fans of the roguelike desing we're living a golden age... maybe were getting too many.
Yeah it's a bummer for Gonner 2 for sure. Really a lot of entries!
What game is in the thumbnail?
I play gunfire reborn. It simple yet very rewarding game. Picture it like diablo but you got guns and with rogue lite game play system. And most important, the price is actually cheap for this kind of game
Great game
That's a lot of Roguelite to coverup
Cant wait to see em all
Hope you enjoyed it!
All right Clem, no more rogue likes till you finish every one of these 😛
XD That's impossible!
too much of a coincidence that so many card-driven games come out at the same time, even nintendo put out one
Mostly driven by StS imo
i need more dungeon mystery-like games :(
Noita is one of the best games I've ever played.
Fantastic game
Lord Best Indie Games, I really liked your contents & explaination, can you please bestow us videos like this but for mobile androids those. Thank you
from what i know roguelites, unlike roguelikes, have some progression between runs, which some of those games don't, like atomicrops and colt canyon
The art style of Gordian Quest is very impressive... may have to take a look at that one. Thanks Clemmy!
Edit: Fury Unleashed is paying homage to Comix Zone... nice! I need a HD Comix Zone remake in the near future... that would rock!
Nice, please do! Support an indie dev!

Yep, it's all paragon assets lol
I went to add Metal Unit to my wishlist. It turns out I already own it from a humble bundle or something
Best kind of surprise! It's in 1.0 now
I enjoyed Neon Abyss gameplay, but, like you, it did not stick; part of it, I feel is the random jumble of enemies and rooms that did nothing at all to link to the game's story of taking down a mega-corporation.
Yeah! Would have to agree
