The new BMW iX3 is essentially a fully electric version of the regular X3, offering the same upmarket interior, similar technology, excellent practicality and plenty of safety features. The iX3 comes with a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive, managing around 280 miles on a charge, a figure that puts it close to the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC. But with a much bigger price tag than the regular X3, is the iX3 good enough to justify the switch to electric power? Nicola puts it to the test to find out.

Nice presentation, I really like how you described it! I love it
Very good presentation ! but I think It's good you mention starting prices of cars.
Great review as always, Nicola! Nice video, excellent work
Great overview and totally agree!
Love your presentation style Nicola , fun & entertaining . Attractive intelligent lady who knows about cars & holds your attention ! Who can complain about this😊
Very informative. Knew nothing about i x 3. Will order for 2023.
Roger
Excellent video, I am an happy owner of this IX3.
I like this journalist
Looking cool in the black belt cargo multi-purpose combat gi.
It looks so warm! #beforetimes
When was this filmed to be in short sleeves outside in this time of year?
Interesting alternative, especially for those with badge or performance biases whom we still hope will move to an EV. You may/may not be aware how helpful you UK reviewers are to those of us over here in the States. You've adopted EVs quicker and drawn the manufacturers to you sooner, so reviews like this helps us lead the target, so to speak. Thanks!
Love these fun reviews!
I drove it a while back and really enjoyed it. It really is like a regular X3 which is both a good and a bad thing. Good in the sense it's familiar, bad in the sense you don't really get the bonkers performance some bespoke electric cars offer such as even the BMW ix.
Instead of keep driving your frugal 2010 Yaris, how many miles do you have to drive this before it makes up for it’s CO2 footprint..?
if you think about it. charging using rapid charge is more expensive then using diesel or petrol
Great review as always. I did think about one of these as my new company car a couple of months ago and it ticked all the boxes apart from cost TBH. It’s just a little above what I wanted to pay (as a monthly amount on my company scheme) and went for an Audi Q4 E-Tron instead as it offers the same space for quite a lot less (even specced up to what is standard on the iX3). Preferred the Audi interior and exterior looks too. Might be a different story in a few years if and when BMW bring out a fully electric platform successor to this.
The Q4 is definitely a better-value proposition - without much in the way of compromise. Expect you'll be very happy with your choice!
Nice looking car and I'm pleased it is based on the ice chassis that way it doesn't look like the suspension has collapsed. One thing I have to say though , "family family family" what's with that! To be honest it's probably people who don't have one that can afford it so less of the family :-)
Even more cheeky on price as BMW are going to charge a starting price of £60k while saving an absolute fortune by having the IX3 built in China, the only German parts being the electric motor and their IDrive system. The ironic thing is that the factories near where the ix3 is being built are currently making EV suvs on par with bmw and cost significantly less, they too will be heading to the uk over the coming years.
I’ve always been a bmw fan, I’m on my 6th but I just can’t see how they are going to justify that massive price tag
put an i before or pro after and your onto a winner no matter what it’s like
Why can’t they design to look as good as a x3m then?
Cool!
Great review. 280 bhp seems adequate, especially with instant torque. Rear wheel drive is a nice, driver-oriented touch too. I’d consider one of these!
rear-wheel is good up to a point, but very poor especially in winter. In Scotland, rear-wheel drive BMW's are what we usually see plenty of at the side of the road over the winter period, but we Subaru AWD drivers still stop and help them out!! 😉
@@Mogsy28uk that’s what winter tyres are for, unfortunately not too many people bother with them
@@paulefc1971 very true
@@Mogsy28uk not with 57% weight on the back. Works just fine in Norway.
Love you Nikki, but I think a new Hollywood (or any other woods for that matter) offer might be coming soon if they’re not there already.
Fantastic review as per usual and very glad BMW kept everything we love about the X3 but just made this into an electric
Except the AWD, a big mistake
Most people won't notice, Oliver - certainly not in the UK.
good
The car is mhh. The host is fantastic.
The iPhone was certainly not ‘just another phone’ and cool because of the ‘i’ in its name. It was nothing less than a revolution in mobile phones. In fact, it is the iPhone that made it cool to use the ‘i’! Nothing wrong with this BMW, but a revolution it certainly isn’t…
Kinda the point we were making...
Richard's review was good, but definitely prefer this one on a commute to work (sorry Mr Ingram!) However, I can't help but feel the need to hover just a teeny bit over that brake pedal just to make sure the $$$ ix3 doesn't hit anything despite the god-like regen braking tech.
It's OK, we're all friends here! And yes, we find our feet hovering over the brake too...
"i" used to mean injectors in bmw, what's the meaning now?
ilectric 😂
iNSTANT torque 😂
Unlike the Netflix Cowboy Bebop adaptation, this is gonna be... an average suv...
At least Yoko Kanno, the music composer, came back.
Made a guitar cover video for the ending theme, The Real Folk Blues.
this isn’t the refreshed iX3 though
As discussed in the video! Early iX3s were pre-facelift like this. The changes are only visual though - so in all other respects, our observations still stand.
Compared this to the bz4x and I must say the traditional OEMs are proving a point. The range and horsepower are comparable to where the rav4 and the x3 customer base would want them. So too the o to 60 times. That tells me that BMW will more than likely keep their customers so too will Toyota base on brand loyalty. Tesla will get the millennials yes but they wont run away with the market as some had predicted. Only GM and Stalantis maybe cause for concern.
Too short video, thanks
Greetings from Austria. Love your reviews! Great blend of humour and facts.
We own an iX3 and absolutely love it! Practical, fun to drive, loads of space for a family of 4 ... BMW has done a great job on giving its buyers the right blend of being eco and practical at the same time, albeit on an existing platform model.... still a great car to consider if you are looking for a more premium priced family car and going electric for the first time.
Agreed!
Own one too. Love it. Price compared to other cars with same extras is really competitive.
The plasticky grill covers are aweful.
What’s the point of an electric X3 that’s 2 wheel drive? £61k for a 2WD SUV is ludicrous!
This car got refreshed months ago. It's a significantly differently one from the one being reviewed here. What is the point of this review?
Significantly different? The battery, motor, and tech all stay the same - hopefully you see some "point" to our review! New cars haven't arrived in the UK just yet...
Just looks the same as a x1 with a new dash. So much so I’m pretty sure that’s what it is
X3
@@MarthaMansbridge no x1
didn't lexus/Toyota had regenerative breaking like a decade ago?
why are these reviews so biased towards Japanese cars?
i..... dont think i can afford this one
Just 2 minutes watching the video is enough for me from this presenter.
That’s a shame, because from 2 minutes 10 seconds, that’s when this video gets REALLY exciting. Never mind ey David.
Very sexy exterior design with decent curves. Outstanding british engineering.
60K 😖😡 So perfect for the average professional person. I think not.
Is anyone going to buy this over BMW ix.
Like for like the iX is more expensive, for no more real-world range. If you want the bigger battery, you'll pay for the privilege!
The iPhone analogy is massively flawed. It wasn’t about branding but about being totally different - and better - to all phones before. I guess this presenter is too young to get why the original iPhone was so revolutionary.
To be clear, I think she’s a good presenter, it’s just that that particular analogy didn’t work.
another great review Nicola, but the car definitely hit the ugly branch a few times. i think most EV's now have 1 pedal drive/regen,. Once better battery tech and/or solid state batteries are available with longer ranges, sales of EV's might improve.
Sales might improve? Nearly one in five cars registered in the UK in November was fully electric!
I’ve got the facelift Msport Pro in white. Looks so much better from all angles as well as inside.
You could have got up to date model
Original model only sold for a few months
Great car to run through jungle maze to the village of Ta Lo.
Want a ride!!!! Then maybe me and you could go for a drive 😉
I love you 😍
lol. that tech has been in the market for 20 years. have you ever driven a toyota?
sometimes, you just wanna be a seatbelt.
My GOD you are a thing of beauty *bites knuckles*.... cars ok I guess.
So its basically an X3 that costs a fortune and they think electric cars are the future 🤷♂️
I don’t know why you’re even acknowledging the idea that “normal is boring”. It’s completely stupid.
It appears the Chinese are going to have the car market all to themselves soon.
60k starting price, ahem no thanks..
The legacy car manufacturers have really been caught fast asleep.
100% agree that many ev are overpowered. Imagine a world where every car hits 60 mph in 3 seconds, carnage.
Hmm like magic you say? You feel like a God when you take your foot off the go faster pedal eh!
That's what supposed to happen every time you lift your foot off to gas...what worry's me is that you thought you must be a god 🧐
Only nobbling, good review as usual, many thanks.
This car won’t sell and I predict it will disappear quickly. Who wants an SUV without four wheel drive? Who wants an expensive performance car without blisteringly fast acceleration? The iX3 doesn’t even deserve its name if it doesn’t have Xdrive.
Straight line speed only is stupid. And it's uncomfortable in a family car. This car has everything and it's selling well
It seams it's summer overthere in United Kingdom, England and Great Britain while we are freezing and countig snowflakes in EU.
This one was filmed a month or so ago - don't be fooled by the greenery!
What can't I find a review of the car that isn't full of CACK and padding
Oh my god stunningly ,she is Beauty with brain ❤️❤️
How can i marry you whan Nicola in a mans name in my country? 😢
The only time I will buy an EV is when it is fully chargeable in 10 minutes! Otherwise, it's a waste of time.
The woman is much more attractive than the car...
This one is made in china Bmw

i dont like this review. She is too familiar and tells too much jokes.
She is very irritating.
ELECTRIC CARS ARE FAR BETTER THAN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES in terms of power delivery and 0 emissions which is great for the environment too
Hate BMW's, ICE or electric. BMW has no style anymore - it's just pointless bling. Over-engineered and over-styled.
